Coming from the US, I've had my fair share of burgers. This place has to be the one of the worst burgers I have ever had. I'm not sure what all the excitement over these guys are. I've tried them multiple times since they've opened and every single time, my order has been wrong. This time instead of them sending the pulled pork sandwich like I ordered, they sent beef brisket sandwich which comes with Caroline mustard but was actually your standard yellow ballpark mustard instead of a mustard style bbq sauce. I would have accepted the brisket mess up if the brisket wasn't dry and overcooked (it's supposed to be full of flavor/melt in your mouth deliciousness!). The breaded chicken wings I ordered were also extremely over cooked, dry and had NO sauce. I keep giving this place chance after chance, the burgers are always overcooked and takes them about 15 minutes to make. A burger should be cooked in about 3-5 minutes (especially with the thin patties they use) instead I always get a cremated over onioned, wilted lettuced burger that I usually just throw away. read more

Buddy, Buddy, Duddy, Buddy. Why did we go to Duddy Buddy? With just a handful of items on the menu, one would infer expert execution from a Buddy? But, a Buddy of mine it was not. Buddy was a Duddy. The Duke with pulled pork, was not actually pulled but sliced. Language barrier much? Comprehension stunted? The fries were languishing as my frustration mounting. I've heard extremely wide and varied reports about Buddys in the Southside, but never one to judge before I have tried it for myself I decided to give it a go recently. The menu is pretty basic, it is various different types of burgers, wings, fries, poutine and BBQ. On my first visit we decided to get a whole bunch of stuff to try including the Fried Chicken Sandwich: Breaded Chicken with cheddar cheese, bacon and chipotle mayo. We also ordered some plain fries, cajun fries, mac & cheese and some BBQ Beans. The order took about 15 minutes which I didn't mind at all because it was made fresh. Next time I will probably place my order by phone before going to collect it, which I noticed quite a lot of people seem to do. Now onto the food...it was pretty delicious, it traveled well back to the Penthouse and was still hot. My chicken burger was seriously good. The chicken was large and juicy with a super crunchy well seasoned coating. The bacon was well cooked and the cheddar was well melted. It came with a huge slice of onion which I could have done without as it was just a bit too over powering and I scraped off most of the iceberg lettuce. At £6 for the burger the value was outstanding. The fries were light, well seasoned and very moorish. The BBQ beans were brilliant they were tasty, beautifully meaty and smokey. The Mac and Cheese I didn't really like - it wasn't really cheesy enough for me and I found it didn't really taste of much, this is the only thing I wouldn't order again. I've been back a quite a few times since my first visit and enjoyed it each time. It's cheap 'durty' food which sometime really hits the spot and well it certainly does for me! read more

This will be a quick review as i really was only in and out in about 5 mins. Given the reputation of the original Buddy's I had high hopes but they were quite dashed. Opting for the cheese burger with smoked bacon (£4 with an additional £1 for the bacon, £5 in total) and in its tinfoil wrapping it looked well worth every penny... Then I unwrapped the foil... And the grease proof paper under that getting to the burger which was much smaller without the paper padding it out. The burger itself was nice enough, although I thought the patty was on the small side. The highlight of the whole burger was the crunchy bacon which doesn't really bode well. The burger gets a 2.5 on the jules scale. A block and a halfs walk later the burger was gone but my hunger was not. Given Glasgow's gallery of gourmet burger joints Buddy's going to need to go some. read more

I've eaten in Buddy's on the south side and didn't rate that one much, I thought the food sold was pretty poor, and probably that's why it took me so long to come to this one, a shame as I live only five minutes up the road. I see that the chicken wings have changed as before they where bigger than my hand and when you start getting chicken wings that size it generally means that you are not getting chicken wings but turkey wings instead, I worked in the food industry for over 20+ years and never seen a chicken wing that size before. I find buddy's a strange place as no staff wear uniforms where in the summer months the staff where wearing shorts that should be a big no no especially when you are working with food. Our order had two burger's two orders of chicken wings & sides of mac & cheese. The burgers tasted fine but the rolls that they where served on looked and tasted like Morton's type buns that made the burger look cheap especially for the price that you pay. The chicken wings where fine but rather over cooked, I think they where left in the fryer too long,. The mac & cheese looked as if the sauce was just made from cream & cheese, was a little bland. Maybe I keep catching them on a bad day, but I wouldn't be in a hurry back. read more

I have grown up eating burgers. I have been lucky enough to eat burgers from coast to coast in the United States, so when I came to Glasgow I knew I had to keep the trend going. After walking by the shop a few times it finally dawned on me the potential burger goldmine in walking distance. The first (and only) burger I tried was the Duke. With beef, cheese, and pulled pork I had high hopes. It was cooked fresh as I waited. After getting home and unwrapping it, I was quite delighted with the texture and most importantly the taste. The BBQ flavor popped enough to compliment itself with the dual meat combination. I am happy to say my high hopes were filled. I have been back serval times, and they have all been quite up to par. I think they were training a new cook the last time I was there because it all tasted a bit underdone. The consistency is still in favor of my continued business. But I will mention the lack of BBQ flavor the next time I go in; insure the flavor that got me hooked! Also, first time I was in one of the guys in the back made too much of a milkshake and graciously offered me some on the house. Personable staff goes a long way to insuring return customers. Fries are good. Cajun is a bit on the spicy side. Garlic, is ight but nothing tremendously impressive. The original fries are the best in my opinion. read more

Mmmmmm, not sure about this. I think I got them on a bad day, so this is a 3-star review with a promise to return on a different day. I found myself in Anderston/Finnieston around lunchtime midweek with a rumbling tum and exactly a fiver in my pocket so I popped into Buddy's for their £4.95 BBQ lunch deal. I was really looking forward to it and opted for the pulled pork and garlic fries. Unfortunately, though, they'd done a big function the night before and they didn't have any pulled pork left. Or any mac & cheese for the lady ordering after me, or any straws or cup carriers for the poor guy from a nearby office with the 50 quid order who had to leave the drinks behind and come back for them later. They have a small menu so having a few items unavailable really does limit punters' choices; if I was running the place and we were cleaned out of stock by last night's function, I maybe wouldn't have opened today -or I would at least have a sign on display saying what we DO have available from the menu today. As I only had a fiver on me, I had to opt for the only other thing available on the lunch menu for under a fiver - a cheeseburger/chips/drink deal. I got my lunch back home and was pleased to find that my chips were still roasting hot and my god, garlic fries are delicious. Heavily salted/seasoned and an unholy amount of garlic. If anyone is worried about vampires, I can offer you sanctuary in my little corner of Partickhill right now and for the next week or so at least. Sheesh! Delicious chips, though, and a massive massive portion. Top marks for the chips - tip top chip chop The burger, though, was a bit disappointing. With such a massive portion of chips to plough through, and not being a fan of brioche buns (too sweet), I removed half the bun. The burger patty itself had a good BBQd smokey flavour which I love, and it was quite thin which I also like - not one of those meat doorsteps which can just be hard work. It had a lot of pepper seasoning on the outsides which I felt nearly overpowered the meaty flavour, but perhaps it would have been better balanced if I hadn't slung the top half of the bun? I felt the cold, sliced onion and tomato accompaniments were a bit bland and watery and made the experience of the sandwich a bit lukewarm and just not that nice. I'd like something a bit sharper in there, like some pickle slices or mustard or something. I dunno. I wasn't really in the market for a burger today so maybe I was setting myself up to be disappointed. I was after some smokey, sloppery pulled pork so I will return for that some time and update my review afterwards. For now, though: great chips, and a decent value lunch deal! read more

Have dined in Buddy's in the Southside previously, and looking for a bite to eat on the go at the weekend popped in to the recently opened takeaway in Finnieston. My other half was disappointed that they had run out of pulled pork, and then once he'd ordered, a member of kitchen staff came out to advise that they were now out of chicken burgers too. This was early evening on a Saturday - not sure if they're usually that understocked. read more

Been here twice and I have to say it's a bit of a hit or a miss. First time we went it was definitely a miss! By miles! I've never had an order so wrong in my life. 2 cheeseburgers, chips and a can of Irn bru turned in to 1 chicken burger, 1 burger, chips and Irn bru. We also didn't realise the mistake until we got the food home and unwrapped it. Fortunately we're pretty forgiving and scoffed the food anyway and decided to give them another chance on a different occasion. They were pretty busy when they got our order wrong and according to the staff it had been a busy evening. Still no excuse but we have them the benefit of the doubt. The second time we went they did manage to get our order right. However the previous time we had gotten our drink for free as part of a deal and this time either the deal didn't exist or they neglected to factor it in. The burgers themselves were really nice, good quality and made from fresh. Really tasty! I just felt that the buns ruined it a bit. It might just be me but they felt saggy and just tasted a little funny. It's hard to explain but they just weren't like you would expect a bun to be. The chips were good both times, which is always a really important part for me as I love chips and they can often be a deal breaker! They were like proper chip shop chips, just as you would expect. Not one to review a place twice, but just had to this time. Went last night and ordered 2 Montreal poutines (aka standard poutine- chips, cheese curds and NORMAL gravy) and waited 30 minutes for the food. This was fine as we were warned before we ordered that we would have to wait & we didn't mind. When we got our food the gravy was in a separate little container than the chips and cheese which seemed weird as it hadn't been given to us like that before, but again not a big deal. When we opened the gravy container...the smell- disgusting! Genuinely thought it was off (can gravy go off?) so we immediately took it back. The guy informed us that they have a new gravy recipe which includes worcester sauce and something else which I can't remember. Why?! Why would you not just use normal gravy? Completely ruined it, and won't be back as the guy said this is the new recipe so it will always taste like that. Such a shame because the poutine was great the way it was- and I'm saying that as a Canadian. Also a little side note: I bought one of the poutines for two Canadians telling them it's just as good as a poutine in Canada- they ate some and were shocked by the taste. Terrible experience. We were looking forward to trying out this place and placed an order for delivery. Half an hour into the wait, we received a phone call saying that a particular sauce was unavailable and a list of options available to us - we assumed our order was being prepared and would be with us soon, as the website told us to expect our delivery in 45 minutes. One hour after this call (1.5 hours into the total wait) we decided to find out where our order was. The guy on the phone had no idea where our order was and claimed the website was down and he didn't have any record of our order. We were told he would find out and call us back. 15 minutes later there was still no phone call. When he answered, he claimed it was trying to get through to us, seemed very unsure of what to say and basically said he had no driver anymore. It then transpired that apparently our order was delivered to a totally different address. When we asked where exactly, he could not tell us. I find it completely unacceptable that we had to wait 2 hours for our dinner to be told that there was no order coming and the only thing that could be done would be to offer us 20% off our next order as a gesture.
