This was a higher rated local pub we tried and about a 12 minute walk from our Hilton. It was early at 5:00pm and not busy. 3 of the 4 of us ordered the fish and chips (17.95 GBP) just to try another joint. The wife ordered their "Fisherman" which is pan seared Scottish coley or pollock (for 27 GBP). The battered fish with the chips was more delicately done here and delicious. As an aside I tried several times to find a place here in Glasgow or in Edinburgh that did a "special" fish and chips, that is breaded with crumbs and not battered, but apparently no one does that healthier old school preparation anymore (and I need to inform my old work colleague who hailed from Glasgow and gave me this inside tip that it's not practiced anymore). I also had a Chieftain IPA. The side of peas were dryish and not flavorful and small portioned and not done as well and tasty as I have had in London or Perth, just saying. We also had their sticky toffee pudding with ice cream for dessert and that was good. The fries were mediocre. The wine list is replete with moderately priced wines; honestly we would have been willing to pay more for a couple of even better alternatives, but I would not classify that as a complaint. A lovely and authentic pub experience! I felt comfortable from the start noticing what seemed to be many locals amongst the patrons. Birthdays, friends meeting up. Made a reservation for a Friday night dinner and happy I did as the dining room is small. We were quickly seated and had a wonderful waitress. I began with a local IPA which was quite good and since we came for the fish and chips, that is what my husband and I both ordered. He started with a richly flavored tomato soup, served with two huge slabs of white bread (like no other white bread I have had) with butter. Our fish was huge and perfectly battered. It was served with mushy peas (meh ) and crispy large fries. Fries were worth writing home about so I am! Not greasy at all. Ambiance is lovely and despite 5ere being a crowded bar on the other side of the curtain, it had no impact on our dining experience. What a lovely place and near to our hotel. I had bookmarked this place for dinner, but when we got to town earlier than expected, we decided to have lunch here instead. The restaurant is downstairs, and the tea room is upstairs. The restaurant décor is chic-shabby, living-room style, with a couple couches strewn about, and tables you used to have at your Mom's house. It was not the warm welcome we were expecting when we first walked in "We're not open yet!", so we went upstairs, who told us that yes, the bar is actually open and available for cocktails. So back downstairs we went. While still not friendly, we were able to get drinks in a timely manner. Lunch started at noon, so we moved from the bar to a table. Our server had finally warmed up to us, and was quite efficient. I went with a frittata and salad. This was my first experience with "rocket" a green which is very similar to arugula, one of my least favorite greens. This ended up being the salad green that was served with every meal all over Scotland and Ireland, unfortunately. I really liked how fresh tasting my frittata was, though, and the portion was huge. The Butterfly and the Pig on Bath Street in Glasgow city centre is one of the best-reviewed places in the city and it's easy to understand why. It's highly recommended on both Yelp and within the gluten-free community. The concept is pretty cool, they've got a lot going on, but they've still executed what they are doing very well across the tea rooms, pubs and restaurant with unique, Shabby-chic style decor. I did originally get confused getting inside, but I headed down the stairs and entered the bar before being pointed into the restaurant. The menu had a varied choice, with allergens marked including what was gluten-free, and could be modified to be gluten-free. It also included markings for dairy-free dishes. The menu was rather amusing to read with the description and jokes, adding a unique take on the menu. I went for the gluten-free fish and chips because when in Scotland you have to go for the haddock, for the dish I ordered was described on the menu as: " Tittys traditional fish and chips, battered to death haddock with mushy peas (all veggies beware they have nasty ham through the peees) and a slice of lemon. (Please be careful there may be one or two bones in the fish they had to move about you know (GFi) (DF) " The staff were friendly, they weren't too busy during my visit, so one female staff member appeared to be working the area I was sat in, she was friendly, I was seated right away with a jug of water brought to my table. My food arrived in good time, and I was offered my choice of sauces. I was really pleasantly surprised by the quality and portion size of the fish. The fish was immaculate, and potentially the best I've ever had, the fish came apart with my fork, it was moist and flaky, and the batter was very crispy, it could easily be mistaken for the real deal. You rarely find such good fish and chips in a restaurant, I normally prefer a traditional chippy, but this can give any good fish and chip shop a run for its' money for sure. The chips were fresh, not the best I've had but they were still good. The peas had a unique texture, they were firmer and more solid compared to some mushy peas you can get which are literally all sauce, it was cooked through, just as I like them. The prices were reasonable, my meal came to £15.50, and considering I would have paid a similar price at Blue Lagoon for a similar-sized portion which was nowhere nowhere near this quality, it was a good shout. The service and food quality standards were excellent, I just wish my trip to Glasgow was longer so I could try out more dishes! It's an experience I can't fault with any fair and realistic improvements... unless they want to open a second location closer to my home in Manchester! A well-deserved five-star rating is in order. read more

It's a wee bit off the beaten path and away from the city center but it's worth the walk for a seemingly authentic Scottish meal. Half pub meets half restaurant. This was our first time trying Haggis in any form and think this is a great way to venture into the world of Haggis. They serve their Haggis Eggrolls with a peppercorn sauce which was a lovely addition. It is worth noting they call them Haggis Fritters but I really compare them more to an Eggroll. For dinner, I had the steak pie with mash. This was the perfect meal for a hungry traveler, such as myself. The puff pastry was cooked perfectly, the meat was tender and tasty, the mash (mashed potatoes) was so smooth, and the little carrots were so good. Needless to say, my plate was cleared in a very short period of time. My wife had one of their burgers, sadly I can't remember which one but I do remember the bite I took and I found it to be a very satisfying burger. We loved the dining room and found it to be very fun and charming. The service was just fair, our server was ok. We ordered the chicken roast, wine & beer. Everything was fabulous. The beverages were spot on. The meal was nice & hot. The chicken was moist on the inside with a slight crisp on the edges. Potatoes were excellent...soft on the inside and slight crisp skin. Broccolini & carrots nicely prepared. Slightly shy on the rich creamy gravy. We request a bit more gravy and were provided a healthy amount of gravy. The meal was the best Chicken Roast we have ever had! The sticky toffee pudding alamode was to die for.
