We quickly booked a four-night trip to Ketchikan for some much needed Rain Replacement Therapy. Many of the local hotels are described as "rustic" and "quaint" which, as seasoned travelers, we know to mean, "few amenities," "no elevator" and "pretty much DIY." Luckily, we found the website for Thomas Street Vacation Rentals. The site offered three rental options: House; Apartment; and Studio. We booked the "House" which was basically -- you guessed it -- a house. Two (or three) bedrooms, one and a half baths, a full service kitchen, large comfy living room, spacious deck, washer/dryer and all the amenities you could wish for. Our hostess, Jane, even picked us up at the airport ferry and provided breakfast foods and snacks. It cost much less than the most rustic hotel we found and we had room to spread out and enjoy ourselves. The location was perfect - walking distance to basically everything and beautiful views of the pier and surrounding areas. Plus, crawling distance to one of the locals' favorite watering holes. (Not that that happened. YouTube lies!) In short, I'd recommend it to anyone and can't imagine staying anywhere else if our precipitations levels fall dangerously low in the future.

Depends on the driver…read more First driver we had, Dakota was amazing. He was personable, nice, intelligent, etc. gave us recommendations. Lovely man. Second driver we had (didn't catch name, but cab 11) was quite rude. She was twenty minutes late after the time requested. She insulted my son saying he didn't know how to slam doors. After he tried to shut the door 3x. Didn't get out of cab to shut door properly. And drove in town going over 60 in a 35. Was checking her messages on phone. Went over potholes on my son's side on purpose. Finally at the end of the ride, after my husband mentioned to her to get the cracked windshield fixed her response was obnoxiously saying "and". This is a safety hazard. The last item to mention was she started the fare at $4.80 before we drove a foot. Zoom in for cracked windshield. Dakota gets a 5 out of 5. Cab driver 11 gets a 0.
