This was no fault of the rental counter. They were very apologetic, gave me another car & I was on my way. All employees from the managers to the counter to the check in personnel have always been very professional & courteous to me. I've done some of my best road trips thanks to the staff here. Wouldn't rent from anyone else. Thank you Sixt FRA & see you all real soon.

SIXT "Bait & Switch" Attempt on an ADVANCE PAID Rental…read more A SIXT Review - "MINUS STARS". Consider this review in your decision to rent any vehicle from SIXT, either directly or through any 3rd parties. I will NOT again. I have experienced their "bait and switch" tactics for the 3rd and last time: "Your RESERVED and PAID FOR vehicle is no longer available. BUT we can offer you this alternative upgrade - at a higher price." Finally, I emphatically replied "NO"; and pursued an alternate rental car company. SIXT owes me reimbursement for my alternate 3rd party vehicle rental: USD$1,297.19 I had reserved a vehicle for three days for pickup at SIXT - FRA; pickup May 27, 2026. The reservation was made through EXPEDIA; I received both EXPEDIA and SIXT confirmation numbers: Expedia itinerary: 73440683727690; SIXT Rental # 9733690594. BECOMING a client of BOTH Expedia and SIXT. Concerned that I might be delayed from the expected pickup time, I attempted to update my pickup time through Expedia; the link would not work. I tried through SIXT also, via the internet (could not due to Expedia origination); by phone (went immediately to message - in German); and via text (I found a number and got a text through. Apparently, ignored.) Upon my arrival the afternoon of May 27, 2026 at the SIXT - FRA counter: "Your vehicle is no longer available. But we can offer a higher-level vehicle at additional cost." MY RESERVED/PAID FOR IN ADVANCE vehicle rental is no longer available!!!! If the RESERVED/PAID FOR IN ADVANCE vehicle had sat for the PAID FOR three days, SIXT would have already reaped economic benefit: PAID FOR REVENUES, with "no miles/no wear and tear" But SIXT apparently has a different business model: "Accept PAID FOR rentals. Release the RESERVED/PAID FOR rental vehicles to other lessees (DOUBLE YOUR REVENUES for the same vehicle already under PAID rental). Then charge the original rental client additional fees.) THAT is "Bait and Switch" If you like that behavior, rent from SIXT. I am still owed USD$1,297.19 for alternate third-party rental costs incurred. I will be re-posting this review until SIXT completes my reimbursement. As for the SIXT perspective: this is an Expedia problem. I also had a SIXT Rental #; became a SIXT client (for the last time). Good luck to you as a SIXT client. (Victim?) Watch out for their explanation to you: "Yes, we will re-rent your RESERVED/PAID FOR vehicle. But don't worry, SIXT will have a more expensive vehicle for you."

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!…read more The employee helping us installed a car seat and adjust the child locks on our rental vehicle. He also started the vehicle because he wanted to show us where the start button was located (not a typical location). Unfortunately, he inadvertently left without giving us the key to the vehicle. Simple mistake but we didn't know this had happened until we arrived at our destination, attempted to turn off the vehicle and a message displayed on the vehicle stating that the key was missing. With a company as large as Hertz, this should not have been a huge problem, right? WRONG. It took 6 days for them to bring a loaner vehicle to us and another 2 days for them to deliver a replacement key. Meanwhile we were completely stranded and everyone we talked to (customer service, roadside assistance, this location, etc) just kept saying "we will look into it" or "we will call you back." I can't imagine what I would have done if I had been stranded with my toddler at a gas station or somewhere without accommodations. At the end of our rental agreement, we returned the vehicle and the key in the exact same condition it was issued to us. The tacked on: 48.52 EUR for fuel in the loaner car (we only drove it to pick up the replacement key) 508 EUR for the key that they lost 37 EUR for delivery of the loaner vehicle (on day 6 of our rental agreement) After several emails to Hertz and over a month of no response, I just received a canned response saying they would only refund the fuel charge.  They claim they can charge me because: "When a customer rents a vehicle, he or she accepts responsibility for the vehicle and its equipment.  If the vehicle is damaged during an accident, the customer will be held responsible and charged the appropriate repair costs." I never took possession of the key yet they want to hold me financially responsible for their employee's actions. I wish I had read the HUNDREDS of reviews on Google and Yelp stating this location was continually defrauding their customers! It is obvious that they have a serious issue with the management at this location and I am appalled the Hertz is willing to put their reputation on the line rather than addressing the issue.

Like Brad, I had reserved a particular model but was told it wasn't available and offered an upgrade. This is to be expected when renting a car. If you want a guarantee of a specific model, you need to reserve accordingly. It is a vehicle fleet, not a candy store, and the terms are quite clear about this. Faced with this potential disappointment, I asked if I could wait for one matching my preference to become available, and the staff were very accommodating. I waited no more than 30 minutes and got exactly the vehicle I sought. Namely, a VW Golf VII TDI. It was in excellent condition. Its navi was set to English for me already, and they included thoughtful small touches like a parking time card (v. useful when parking in German city streets) and a snow/ice scraper. The car was great fun to drive and had fantastic fuel economy. Later, when I needed to modify my return location, I called Europcar support and had a fantastic experience. The rep spoke flawless English and went out of his way to help make sure I knew where the new drop-off lot was, as it was at the dense and potentially confusing Cologne Hauptbahnhof. Europcar didn't charge me any extra to change my drop-off location (both the reserved and revised return locations were different from the origin at Frankfurt.) What was originally just a practical, flexible form of transportation for me to range around the Rhineland in became one of the unexpected pleasures of my trip. Vielen Dank, Europcar Frankfurt!

Upon landing, on time, I made my way to the rental car area. Every rental car counter was open, so I thought it was weird that despite having a worker sitting at the counter the glass door to the Europcar place was closed. I approached the glass door with my bags, and the lady ignored me the beat she could before eventually looking up and saying 'not ready yet' and suggested she needed another 20 minutes. So I waited. Watching every other counter process costumers and people leave with keys for their cars. Finally the lady pushed the glass doors open. Just in general rude, talking to the other customer service rep and customer more than addressing me. Finally got my car. Great car, terrible customer service. Do NOT recommend. I will never use Europcar again.

Fair enough. When we returned at 11am (our pick-up time), the car still wasn't ready. At this point I was still fine with it. There's no use getting aggravated over a few minutes. While I waited, I asked one of the staff members in English about Europcar's insurance options. He was nice and explained everything to me. After our chat his manager talked to him, in German, about how to better pitch insurance to customers. While she had no way of knowing that I understood what she was saying, I still found it in incredibly poor taste to do that in front of a customer. Fast forward an hour and we were still waiting on our car. When it did arrive, it turned out to be a completely different vehicle from what we expected. However, since we were already running late, we didn't make a fuss about it and drove off. I've had great experiences with Europcar in Germany in the past, so I was really disappointed with what happened at Frankfurt airport. The one bright note was that dropping off the vehicle was a breeze. There are two Europcar locations at the airport - one in Terminal 1 and one in Terminal 2. While you have to pick up your car at a specific terminal, you're free to drop it off at either location. All we had to do was park the car and hand off the keys. The attendant did a quick visual inspection and sent us on our way within a few minutes.

Our contract shows the garage where the vehicle is located and the spot number in that garage. To reach the garage, exit the car rental center and then left down a ramp. Exit into a hallway, walk straight across and enter an underground garage complex. You'll see a long line of open parking garages, each garage has a large number (our vehicle was in garage 217 for ex). painted next to the entrance. There is two way vehicle traffic here so use care. No personal service at the airport. Too busy. No talk about how damage is calculated. They did specify to return the car with a full tank. We examined the exterior of the car ourselves. It's not totally clean but looks like they did try. The interior is mostly clean as well. To exit the garage where the car is located you take a ticket to open the gate. Once up the several levels, round and round, you will put that ticket into another machine at that exit to open that gate. It was an OK experience. We have a car and are on the road. So mission accomplished.

At rental, they were very helpful, they upgraded us (maybe because bigger cars are less in demand because of the high gas prices). And here was the first problem. The representative convinced me to buy a full tank of gas because their gas prices were considerably cheaper. Turns out that because they gave me a diesel that their gas prices were actually much more expensive. Then while driving, a rock hit our windshield on the Autobahn and it cracked. We could still drive the car but I wanted to see what we needed to do as far as reporting the accident and taking care of insurance before we showed up at the airport. I tried to get hold of customer support for two weeks. When i got someone on the phone they always told me that 'the right person will call you back' but they never did. When trying to call the airport location, they just don't answer the phone. Finally one day before leaving and after being on the phone, on my vacation, for two hours I got hold of the right person in the terminal and got everything straightened out. I was to drop the car off as normal, the return process would only takes 5-10 minuets more for a damage report and I would not miss my flight. Returning the car took about 45 minuets, so good thing we got to the airport extra early. The rep checking us back in could not give us an invoice because the insurance deductible was over his limit and he needed a manager to sign off. So he said he would email the invoice to me and I would have it before I take off. Two weeks later I still did not have an invoice even after repeatedly calling and again, mostly not getting through. I also needed damage reports, estimates and invoices for insurance. That was also a very hard thing to get. They are so unorganized, so unprofessional. In the US I called the US customer Service department that deals with International rentals and they said "someone will call you back in 24 hours! This will go the the Vice President's desk!" Nothing. I got a great deal, I had a great car, but the experience was horrible and still not over.
