This was my first time renting a vehicle from Hertz and it was ok for the most part, but some of…read morethe smaller details were a little annoying. I made a reservation for three days over the holiday weekend and I went through my airline to make the reservation at the same time as my flights just for convenience. I requested a mid-size car and was informed the price would be $54.34 per day. When I picked up the car the daily rate had changed to $57.81 per day and I was told my reservation was just an estimate. The "real" costs are calculated at the location to get the most up to date price on local taxes and fees, or something like that. I declined the company's insurance coverage because I had my own and I declined the pre-pay for fuel option. I don't remember what the price was exactly, but it was higher than the local gas stations. If the car wasn't brought back with a full tank then they would charge me $12 per gallon to fill it up themselves. There was also a $200 deposit which was not mentioned when I made my reservation, and they also rounded up to the nearest dollar so the hold on my credit card was $440 instead of $239.20. The vehicle I was given was nice but there were dings and scratches all over it. I took pictures and when I was leaving the garage I mentioned it to the attendant at the gate and they said if I picked it up in that condition then the company has already made a note of it. I was covering myself in case Hertz came back and said I caused the dings and scratches. The gas tank was on the right side of the car instead of the left which made gassing it up a bit of a challenge since a lot of gas stations in the area are too small to easily maneuver the opposite direction as everyone else. Before bringing the car back I took it to a car wash and hosed it down manually just to clean off the dust and dirt. I didn't have to do that but I wanted to at least try to return the car somewhat clean. When I brought the car back to Hertz I didn't receive any receipt or confirmation and when I asked the attendant checking it in, they said I would be contacted if there were any issues. Fortunately everything seemed ok as I wasn't contacted and my final charge for the rental was correct. I've had less hassles with Budget and Avis so if I'm ever in SLC again I might go to one of these rental companies instead.

WOW. What a terrible way to treat a loyal customer…read more I have rented from Hertz for years and have never had an issue. I'm also a Hertz Gold Member. I even recently had an employee, Ahmed, help me retrieve keys I accidentally left in a rental, and he was professional and provided excellent customer service. Then this week I received an extremely unprofessional notice claiming that a vehicle I rented almost three weeks ago was involved in an accident and demanding $3,600, with a threat that if I didn't pay immediately, it would be sent to collections. Honestly, I initially thought it was a scam because the communication was so vague, threatening, and lacking basic information about the alleged incident or even enough information for me to identify the vehicle involved. I am absolutely disputing this claim. As a loyal Gold Member, I expected much better from Hertz. After years of renting from Hertz, this experience has made my decision very easy: this will be my last rental with Hertz. WOW. Just WOW.

Started the vehicle, and the windshield washer fluid was low (this covered up the check engine light, I should have paid attention to. Asked the attendant as I drove out if he could top it off... He didn't have any option for me except to fill it up myself later. There was a storm coming in later, but I did beat that to get to my hotel. I didn't drive the rest of the day because I fell ill. I woke up early the next morning and drove to get medications. When I started the vehicle, the Check Engine and ABS alarms went off, telling me it was unsafe to drive. But it was early and I needed meds, so I went to get them. Later that day (Monday), after my training, I called filed a request for road side assistance. After waiting for 3 hours (near 7 pm) I started a chat, the chat was not a live assistance. Get a live assistant. They tell me it will take till 9 or 10 to get the replacement. I ask them to wait until tomorrow morning. They state that they will call me in the morning to pick up where we've left off. I let my training cadre know that I will have to wait for a vehicle the next morning and stay back for the transfer, since they won't let me leave the key with the front desk, in case I need to sign something. So, Tuesday, I slept in till 7, had breakfast, and waited. About 8:30, I decided, maybe I'll need to initiate the process again, and contact assistance... chat with computer "I need to transfer you" Chat with live assistant, "a rescue team will call you". 20 min later, get a call from the rescue team. They inform me they've contacted someone to perform the vehicle exchange (mind you not clearly, so I don't know if I'm waiting for someone to bring the new rental and a tow truck, or just the tow truck). This could take up to 6 hrs of my already missed work day. I do get a refreshed link so I know the tow driver and can call them. 3 hrs in, I call, and get "VM has not been set up". 1 hr passes, I call, and a garbled, unrecognizable answer. I start receiving text reminding me, that I need to be there for the vehicle exchange. no calls. Call the 3rd time, a lady picks up "oh, he is close, and he has the replacement vehicle". "Awesome, thank you. He arrives at noon with a Dodge Durango- heck of an upgrade! Pulls it off the truck, give me the keys and I get in. "Low Tire Pressure" is the first thing I see. I ask him if he has an air compressor. He says "It looks okay, just go to a gas station". I say fine, give him the keys to the equinox and ask if there is anything to sign. There isn't. Could have easily been taken care of with the front desk. I drive a block, and the tire pressure sensor seems to have reset, I'm good to go, take it back to the parking lot. This morning, get one of the other training cadre to ride with me "to balance my luck," but also take a 6 seater for today's field trip. The tire is now completely flat. This evening, after seeing that the spare is a donut, and not knowing the distance I'm driving tomorrow, I decide to call Avis, and tell them just to pick up the car. Start the call process again- computer- specialist- rescue team. Rescue team guy says he has someone lined up to get the vehicle between 6 and 7:30. He connects me with customer service to inquire getting a refund. I speak with them, after 10 minutes, they let me know they can't do anything until the vehicle has been returned, which, we know I can't do myself.... It's approx 8:50. At 8, I started trying all of my "Rescue" links to track where the tow driver was... All of them go back to the original assistance request. After 7 tries, they finally get someone to call me. He states "oh, yeah this has been picked up"... I'm not calling about that one. I'm calling about the new one that I can't track. He calls the tow company (doesn't give me the number). And then lets me know, they'll be here in another hour. The vehicle is going to towed tomorrow. Do not recommend Avis is SLC for anyone!
