And it's nice to meet people at the front office who don't seem angry all the time. Someone missed their calling at our last two schools. Great and complete curriculum so far. Seems much more serious a school. Also the kids have fun for sure too. No major issues so far. Will check in later after he's been there longer. They got me to put off a decision on charter schools for a little longer.

To add, as a teacher myself (high school level), I think a lot of the success stems from the teachers and community itself. The teachers are caring, experienced, insightful, knowledgeable, approachable....I could go on. Most importantly, they seem to love their jobs, and they are good at what they do. Lastly, despite being in LA county, and the after school hustle and bustle of picking up your kid(s), the school has a small feel to it- no overcrowding, and the campus isn't stuffed with bungalows of make shift classrooms. This makes a difference. A side note: If you're so fortunate to get Mrs. Smith for a 1st grade teacher for your child, you are in amazing hands. What she gets 18 1st graders to do in 10 min takes me forever with only my 3 kids. What an awesome teacher - and an remarkably wonderful individual.

Parent Warning: Weaver Elementary…read more Los Alamitos USD is one of the best districts in California, and we love being part of this community. Most schools -- Hopkinson, Rossmoor, Lee -- truly live up to that reputation. But parents need to know: Weaver Elementary, under Principal Dr. Schmidt and teacher Colette Sullivan, is not safe for children. Here's what happened to our kindergartener. For three weeks straight, he was removed from Ms. Sullivan's class and left alone in the principal's office for hours every day -- without our knowledge. He was not disruptive. His only "offense" was not finishing assignments. Instead of being supported, he was dropped in a chair with no desk, no guidance, and no instruction, while his classmates learned. We only discovered this because our child became so fearful that he broke down and begged us not to take him to school. The secretary confirmed the routine, and Dr. Schmidt himself admitted it happened multiple times and defended it as acceptable. The school kept no records and never notified us. Think about that: a six-year-old child, abandoned daily, completely unsupervised. Imagine the damage to his trust in school, his sense of safety, his joy of learning. For weeks he sat silently, terrified, while we thought he was in class. When the district was alerted, the superintendent investigated and disciplined both Dr. Schmidt and Ms. Sullivan. That discipline alone proves how unacceptable their conduct was. Yet, shockingly, both remain employed at Weaver, still responsible for children. This was not discipline. This was not education. This was neglect. And it happened under the direct leadership of Dr. Schmidt and Ms. Sullivan. After transferring to Hopkinson Elementary, our son's experience was completely different. Principal Garcia and his new teacher welcomed him, supported him, and restored his love of learning. He is thriving again -- proof that Los Al schools can be extraordinary. But Weaver is not. The leadership failed. The teacher failed. But I'm glad the superintendent's discipline did bring accountability but it won't bring back the damage that it did to our child. Parents deserve to know the truth: Weaver Elementary, under Dr. Schmidt and Ms. Sullivan, is not a school you should ever risk sending your child to. Until there is a complete change in leadership, avoid this school at all costs. Do not make the mistake we did. Do not send your child to Weaver Elementary.

During the special ed orientation I asked about the educational background of the school psychologists. Her response... "Why are you asking that?" She then went on a hostile rant defending her staff, but I just want to know about the people counseling my kid. Grace Delk is mentally and emotionally broken and gas no place in a setting that counsels children. BTW, Grace is not used to dealing with substantive questions from parents, as the only other parent questions were: 1. Who are you? 2. Will my special ed kid get to socialize with the 'normal' kids? Pathetic, which is why Grace Delk is herself, pathetic. A mental health professional? Absurd. If she really felt offended or that my question was hostile, she would have tried to diffuse the situation. Instead she answered emotionally. This is the darkness in the heart of man, which Joseph Conrad wrote about most eloquently.

there are so many things wrong with this school, where can I even start…read more. 1. Safety. There are SO much fights at this school, I can't even count. Once during the first semester there were maybe 3-4 fights in one week, almost 2 in a day once. It was so bad for about 2 days we weren't allowed to move lunch tables or get up out of our seats at lunch. Not to mention there are multiple gang members at this school. As im writing this, there was almost a fight yesterday and a fight INSIDE A CLASSROOM 2 weeks ago. 2. Staff. Where do I even begin..... The staff is rude to students. If you have any concerns, I'd recommend talking to the vice principal Mr Mcleoud as he is the nicest and most understanding staff member on campus. The principal is rude and treats the school like a prison. She is sooo rude to students, and people are scared of her as she targets random kids for no reason to say something to when they aren't doing anything. There are no backpacks allowed on campus which causes students stuff to get stolen, such as chromebooks and more. When you ask them to look at the cameras so you don't have to pay a $400 fee to replace your Chromebook that was stolen, they don't listen and never cooperate with you. The staff in the office is rude sometimes except for one nice lady. Most of the teachers don't teach at all, and ms Kaiser hates children and teaches like the principal from the movie Matilda. The only teachers that genuinely teach and are good at what they do is Mr Courdy and Ms Sollecito. Not to mention basically none of the teachers respond to emails when you or a parent have questions or concerns. If you are looking for a middle school to put your child in, tetzlaff is NOT the one, coming from a student.
