This was my son's first year attending Orangeview and it has been a bit of a rollercoaster. Having to change schools, leaving his friends behind was tough and challenging for him. But with the support of his parents and teachers he has seen great improvements and we are very optimistic that he is now in the right path to maintaining academic performance. The teachers have done a great job communicating with us using the ParentSquare app, allowing us almost live access to class content, events, grades and homework. We are very happy to see the efforts to integrate and nurture social interaction and knowledge. This past December we had the opportunity to attend the Winter Concert where my son was part of the Choire. We were so excited and happy to see the event. If I'm being, I definitely was skeptical of this school prior to my son's 7th grade year. We reluctantly sent him there because of the proximity to our home and I can say that I'm glad he ended up here. All of the staff that we've interacted with have been wonderful. My son loves his teachers and has a lot of pride in being a panther. Specifically, I'm impressed by the work of the instrumental music teacher, Mrs. Reyes. The amount of growth the program has seen since last year is quite remarkable. Music programs are so important and are a great experience for kids. Surprisingly a pretty decent junior high school. The staff here are very communicative and great at making the kids feel cared for. One of the programs my student is part of is their music program. Orangeview's JHS Band has been such a great opportunity for my son Andrew. He is in 7th grade and has learned so much very quickly. I thoroughly enjoyed hearing all the instruments come together. My son was a late in the year transfer to Orangeview. He attended the other school for 7th and most of 8th grade. But after transferring to Orangeview his grades started to improve. He was involved in more activities and he liked the teachers and students. The band program and the teacher are both amazing! He really enjoys being apart of Orangeview. read more

Orangeview has a special place in helping children learn music. Mrs. Reyes is a wonderful teacher and is a perfectionist in making musician, at orangeview they make it easy for you to learn how to read and play an instrument. They also have fun field trips like knotts berry farm and Disneyland while also doing concerts for your parents to come see. read more

Don't send your kids to this school, the leadership is creating a toxic environment for students. The principal yells at parents in front of office staff and threatens to call police on students for unnecessary circumstances. The assistant principal Mary Ellen Park will intimidate your children by educating them on criminal terms. She stands behind her methods and believes this is an acceptable treatment of Orangeview students. Middle school kids don't deserve this treatment and example of adulthood. I would like to add that there are many helpful and supportive staff and teachers at this school but they are being overshadowed by this leadership that is poor at problem solving. This school is failing to provide a positive leaning environment for kids and a place for kids to develop as people to their full potential. read more

Orangeview JHS was an interesting experience. I learned, but it was tough there. Adolescence is a tough time for many, and I was picked on by other kids. That's to be expected, I guess, but what wasn't was the lack of teacher and staff support. They either did nothing and looked the other way, or punished the victim for being beat up and defending himself. Gym class was mixed. I got in shape running, but bullys made team sports not fun at all. My advice: do the best you can, and stay away from the other kids. read more

My daughter attended 7th and 8th grade at this school. I love the programs available to the students. My older daughter went to a different school and did not have all the opportunities which my younger daughter has had. My daughter was able to try out and play for all the sports teams, soccer, basketball, volleyball, softball, track, cross country. It truly is amazing all the after school programs this school has. The music program is even better. Mrs. Reyes the music teacher is one of the best teachers I have ever seen. She is so involved with her students. My daughter started in beginning band, and is now graduating from advanced band, and jazz band. If you were doubting this school before, you should have no doubts now. I would recommend this school to everyone who is looking for a good interactive school. read more

It was the best of times and it was the worst of times, but then again, we're talking about Junior High... When I attended Orangeview, many moons ago. There were definitely different clicks, but most students seemed to find a place to fit in. You had your surfers, your jocks, your cheerleaders, your nerds, your class clowns and your loadies, to begin with, and then, beginning my last year at Orangeview, we started seeing an influx of chicanos being put into the mix. I'm talking early 1970's, back when we were still known as the "Warriors"... Apparently political correctness has changed our school mascot since then... Why be known as a true proud American when you can be an African cat? Yes, we had bullies back then too, and a few, including myself took a beating or two before all was said and done, but for the most part, it was a time of discovery, that included many "Firsts"... First dance, first kiss, first love... We were teenagers for the first time and eager to show the world how grown up we were... The class "Mystery Trip" was one of the best times we ever had with our clothes on, well most of us anyway. Our teachers back then were a mixed bag. There were good, great, scary and boring teachers, but looking back, they all had something to offer... All we had to do was except that offer... Well, all, except for Mr. Kay that is... He was the History teacher we had for the final class of the day... He would sit at his desk in the front of the classroom and start to ramble on about this event or that event, and within 5 minutes, he'd be sound asleep, and we would all get up and quietly leave for the day. Somehow, we all still managed to get an "A" in his class. I feel sad reading the couple of reviews that have been left in recent years. I choose to remember not just the bad, but all the good times that came with the coming of age. Orangeview Junior High School was a major part of those good times... Most of the friends that I have on both Classmates and Facebook are people I knew from Orangeview...
