Due to a accident it's been 18 months since I played a round of golf out at Buena Vista Golf Course. My 21 mile out was met by a few banks of heavy fog and lots of workers headed west towards Taft and the oil fields. It was cool and crisp at 8:00 am when we checked in, $40 for 18 is still a deal. The pro shop didn't really have much merchandise at all which concerned me. The gentleman who checked us in was pleasant. We putted for about 10 minutes before we were up at 8:30. I noticed the driving range, it looked terrible. There were few early strong willed groups out in front of us. This course is classic with the all the different elevations and different terrains. The greens are in good shape, large and tricky, they challenge your game, most all break towards Taft that hasn't changed. The tee boxes weren't too bad, sand traps were all in poor condition, fairways were the same, shaggy and tough with many gopher and squirrels holes. Numerous trees on the course were in need of attention broken and down limbs some require removal. Cart paths are also in need of repairs. This beautiful course is in rough condition. I heard rumors that were mainly because of high water rates that have escalated to the breaking point for management. This used to be a Kern County gem, a fine place to play a round of golf or hold a tournament. Snack bar was always busy great lunches. Why can't the County or the City of Taft partner together drill a well or help with the serious problem out here? We (County) spend money for many causes and fund numerous questionable programs let's save a this classic venue before its too late. Trash course... fairways are complete non playable... greens are ok. The carts are always dirty and have ripped upholstery... they should charge a $15 flat fee to play 18 holes. Definitely not worth it and I won't be recommending this to friends or family. Yes other courses are a little bit more , but you get what you pay for. read more

I can see why people think if this course as a LAST RESORT. The course is poorly manicured and the service is subpar. The experience left us feeling RUSHED overall. It seemed to me the tee times were poorly scheduled in order to accommodate more guests than they should should have. We were told WE of all groups held up the entire schedule and were unable to get our meals at the cafe. Everyone else was, very strange. Honestly, seemed as though the "manager" or whom ever was "in charge" decided to single us out. He was very combative and rude. It's quite disappointing. From cigarette butts to glass shards...take your pick. Seems to me like thy have a lot to improve on. Most importantly Customer SERVICE. read more

Best burgers in KC 30 years running. I don't play here as often as I should. Played today and the greens were ok. 10am no pressure. Played solo all day. Great rate for first responders on Wednesdays of $25. Very polite staff! And again, DAYUM for the 30 years I've been coming here the burger is still my favorite around. read more

The driving range is in pretty rough shape. The mats are completely destroyed and you are for sure going to get a few broken balls in your bucket The course is fine for a $25-$30 round. The day I was here I payed almost $50 which is absurd for the quality of the course. Greens have big black spots on them and the fairways are barely different than the rough. The carts are in pretty bad shape too The clubhouse is small and fine. Pretty much like every other public around here. I'd recommend going to Kern River or Riverlakes 1st, but in a pinch BV is fine read more

Course was in really tough shape. Fairways rough and bumpy. Fairways need to be mowed. Greens chewed up with no one fixing ball marks. Slow play. Does no one on California know to yell 4? Hit by a ball when standing on the tee box. Close calls multiple other times. Golf carts old and beat up. Very dirty bathrooms. Doesn't appear to be putting any money back into this business. Had a great time golfing. The greens were a little wet but still shot a pretty good game. If you don't want to go out of town , Buena Vista is the place to go. They have challenging holes. The sand traps are a little hard but that's okay, I never go in them lol. Try this golf course if you haven't. read more

Course is in great condition! Fairways are lush, greens are smooth and fast and the bunkers seemed to be upgraded to real sand. Looks like they pumped some more money into it which has really improved conditions. They even had new carts which was cool. And the food never disappoints! Can't wait to play again. read more

The alleged Pro Chad Sorenson is a complete A-Hole. We had a large group of 5 with my 12yr old daughter being the 5th and never played on a actual course . She takes lessons and isn't as bad as most weekend golfers . I even told the clubhouse that she would be playing a scramble style with me to make sure we keep up with play. He made it a point to harass our group on 3 separate occasions. Even accusing us of costing him money, because now he will have to give out vouchers because of our slow play . When we had a entire fairway and a half behind us . We didn't hold up anyone, even let one group go through because they were the only ones to catch us . Course is just run down, greens were mediocre at best . Save your time and just go to the River or North Kern . The faster this jerk looses his lease with the county the better... read more

Buena Vista Golf Course is a fun place to play if you're near Bakersfield. The course plays longer than some of the others in town and the holes set up nicely, often playing to and away from the lake. You might get into some trouble if you hit an errant tee shot as there are some large trees lining most of the fairways. It costs under $40 to play during the week and is $45 with a cart on the weekends. Usually, the pace of play is fast enough to get a round in the club house in under 4 hours. Actually, Buena Vista Golf Course is one of Bakersfield's best gems. A lot of locals know about this golf course, but this review is actually for the sandwich shop/ grille. The decor is about as simple as it gets: no glamor, bunch of retirees on a weekday. Anyways, I ordered a turkey sandwich from this joint---they grilled it up on ciabatta bread with deli style turkey, avacado, and fresh sliced tomtatoes, served w/ french fries and a drink. Actually, it was quite tasty! The french fries were OK....... but whatever-- the sandwich was priced at $10 (inc. drink and fries) -- and was quite filling. It wouldn't be my first choice for dining, however, I give the local little grille here at the golf course two thumbs up! read more

owner chewed us out for driving through a puddle on the sidewalk next to a tee box. on top of an already sub par course experience with poorly cared for greens, patchy fairways, and leaky sprinklers. being rude to customers doesn't help your case. Worst customer service ever. The owner thought we were parked on the tee box but we were actually off to the side. From his perspective I can understand why we would have thought we were on the tee box but we actually weren't. He could had walked over and talked to us like gentlemen instead of rudely yelling at us. He had to make a point and say it was his golf course and he was the owner. Not that it makes a difference. We follow rules and would obviously apologize if we did something wrong, even though we didn't do anything wrong. The lady at the front desk was very short and condescending. read more

Nothing really wrong with the course. The main issue is employees/owners. They are very rude for no reason at all and service is not the best. Doesn't seem like they value their customers and the experience they provide. They take your money and then could care less about you. read more

I will absolutely avoid this course simply because the old lady that works there is in desperate need of customer service classes, or maybe just a Sunday sermon every now and then. Rudest person I've ever met. Why they keep her hired on there is beyond me. read more

Great family golf course and reasonably priced. Not the fanciest course or clubhouse, but totally worth the trip from Bakersfield. My parents love to come to the course when vacationing here from Montana. I have done a few tournaments here and they are always fun. Came here for a tourney to benefit the Wesco HS football team. Course is nice. No trump national nice. But muni nice. Like a girl who hasn't shaved in 2 weeks the greens needing some pruning. It was difficult finding the hole... What normally would be 1-2 pokes...I mean putts... on average ended up being 3-4 putts. Greens were nice and soft. It doesn't deserve the one star I had to give it. We had a group of 5 players (not uncommon) at this place and we were hassled by the guy from the clubhouse saying we need to pick up the pace ok ok I get it it's busy but we weren't behind at all so after 9 I looked at the time and it took us 2 hrs and 9 min so as we go in to get something to drink he again says you need to pick it up I'm not sure how fast he thinks it should go but I think we were at an average time so we will never go back and they will never see another dime of my money acting like he's the only course in town. P.S. we used to play out there quite often and when we have been there in the hot ass summer we've had to play 6 hour rounds cuz of some hacks and wouldn't let us play through but nobody came and said anything to them ??? read more

The course was really nice and I enjoyed the challenges of the Hills. I've been to a lot of LA courses and none are anything like this course. I really liked it and don't mind the drive out here because it's worth it. However, I don't like the fact that nobody fixes there divots on the green which is poor etiquette. I also didn't like the fact that I couldn't use the first women's bathroom because it was broken. I have no clue how long it's been like that either. Maybe they figure women don't play golf very much. I would have loved to try their food but sadly the cafe was closed at 1:30 on a Saturday. I'm not sure what customer service everyone is talking about because the girl behind the cafe counter was rude and annoyed that we even bothered her as she was cleaning. We just bought sandwiches from the fridge and fountain drinks which apparently put her out because she was so rude. I've never been to a course on Sat that had there cafe close so early. It was disappointing. Surprisingly, the turkey Sammies were actually really good. Their fruit were delicious as well. The gentleman at the front pro shop counter was nice and helpful. The older lady with glasses wasn't bad but also not the friendliest. Watched the tv the entire time she was helping me. I don't see how this place has good customer service... I did enjoy the course and that for sure has 5 stars even with some negatives but I have to deduct 2 stars for the other things. read more

The Summer Golf Camp for kids was great. It was well organized and our girls (ages 5 and 6) had fun and improved their skills.

Great course with some hills that give is more than just a flat land. The course is taken care of and the guys in the clubhouse are great! Highly recommend this course. This is one of my favorite public course in Kern County. read more
