Riverlakes used to be a solid place to practice, especially after work. Since installing the " Topgolf-like" setup, the range feels more like entertainment than a legit practice area. The switch from grass to mats has made it much less useful for golfers trying to actually improve. The wait was ridiculous--almost an hour with no open mats available. For someone coming straight from work, that's a complete waste of time. Disappointing change from what used to be a great practice range and this was a Wednesday night. read more

Thought we had a 2:10 reservation booked through a 3rd party app. When we got there, they did not have our reservation. Asked when we might be able to play. They said they didn't have a time until 3:56. They also had no carts available anyway. Starter said there were four foursomes stuck on the 4th hole, a water hole. Also, heard someone complaining about a wasp infestation. Felt sorry for the starter kid. I feel like he knew things there weren't quite right. Just wanted to play here while headed back home from Vegas. We're thinking we won't give this place a 2nd thought in the future. read more

I am a local here in bakersfield. I've played every course here and this is by far the most backed up course there is. They stack tee times and allow players to play at their own pace. For the price you pay to play at this course it's insane for how poorly it is maintained, the bunkers are dirt, and the fairways are patchy. read more

This course is the poorest maintained courses I have ever played. The fairways are nonexistent, basically mud and dirt, there is no sand in the traps. The greens are in horrible shape, completed covered in divots and patchy grass, the water features smell and are murky. The worst part is, that it looks like it will be a beautiful course because the club house and putting green by the parking lot are in great shape. So it is very deceiving. As soon as you leave the first hole, it turns into absolute garbage. I would play here again if it was $20.00 with a cart and 10 free beers. read more

Well, Todd was an absolute push over once again. He stands behind subpar (ie, shitty) execution from his staff. I was harassed by a patron, asked the bartender to have her removed to which she said "I can't do anything." What she meant was SHE WON'T do anything. That's ok, I will subpoena the camera footage and "get to the bottom of it" as Todd said to me. I practiced for about 45 mins on the putting green qnd got a water. The manager, Todd is terrible. And he has others he protects who suck too. They're rude, they side with lunacy most of the time, your time is only as important as whatever is going on with their phones at the moment. read more

Came here to have a peaceful round of golf and got hit up on, when we let the marshal know he went back and the group behind us came up and wanted to fight us, poor guy was using his moms golf bag from dejavu, I could see why he was so mad. I'm done with RiverLakes Golf. Played 18 holes there last Tuesday. It once was a great course but now has shaggy tees, no ball washers, restrooms that stink and are unclean, no yardage markers, "sand" traps that have no sand and are little more than mud pits, water puddles in some traps, many areas of the course grossly overwatered and not mowed, etc. Kern River Golf Course, a county facility, is in overall better condition and is less expensive. Had a great set of lessons from Ghanish Shah that focused on all aspects of my game from driving, irons, putting! Ghanish was awesome and supportive and helpful and a fantastic coach! Highly recommend! I also take my kiddos out there and the entire staff and clientele has been friendly and it has been a joy. The course is well managed and there are plenty of challenging holes and cool water features! 1st, the good. The clubhouse, pro shop and restaurant are maybe the nicest you're going to find at a public course. They may even be nicer than some of the country clubs around here. The practice facilities are really nice also. An area to putt, chip, flop, practice bunkers and a MASSIVE range. All very, very nice. Now....the course. I do not understand how they get away with charging $60 for a round of golf. The bunkers are compacted mud and full of rocks. The tee boxes are covered in broken tees and unfixed divots. The fairways and the rough can be indistinguishable and the greens are nothing special. There are ball scrubbers at every hole, and they are all broken and have no water in them. There are trash cans at a lot of holes, that don't get emptied on a regular basis. There are a couple large water jugs on some holes, that are never filled. Overall, the golf experience just doesn't line up with the price read more

If I could do less stars I would. First I book a time for $50 on golf now... get to the course and pro shop won't let my girlfriend ride in the cart with a 4 some?!? Had to change my tee time because "you can't have 3 carts in a group." Charged me an extra $10 because I had to change my time due to this. Get on the course and they are sending out singles every 5 minutes. After the 3rd hole we waited with 4 groups on each hole the remainder of the round. Absolutely terrible. I would never recommend this course to anybody, not even my worst enemy!! read more

Golfed there this week. Now they are letting kids on the course! On bikes, fishing and walking around. While on the 15th hole there were a group of kids messing around near the water. We walked up to the green and they immediately started spewing profanity at us. I called the clubhouse and they said we get them all of the time and they would send someone out. Come to find out later they did nothing. A few holes later we saw a parent dropping off their kid at the course. This management needs to be replaced asap! They are useless! read more

Quick Summary This review is a combination of the course and practice area. The course is very forgiving (wide fairways, relatively short distances, and slower greens). Really have to avoid weekends and primetime hours here (beginners and slow players lead to infamous 5-6 hour rounds here). The driving range has some of the worst balls I've ever hit. However, the putting green in the front of the range isn't the best because of the large hills Value- 4 stars The cart is included in the greens fees (you definitely need the cart because a few of the holes require a long drive between holes). Great value if you get here during twilight or super twilight hours; otherwise, it's just meh Bottom Line It's not a fantastic course, but I do like playing the course here during slow hours. Located in the northwest of Bakersfield, the Links at Riverlakes, is a course with 18 holes, a driving range, putting greens, a chipping area, and in addition, 3 short holes to play on for free (you do need to check-in to play this area at the Clubhouse). The staff is friendly but the course is par at best. Perhaps, less than par. There has been several occasions when the grounds keepers will get in the way and not aware of golfers passing through, which is quite frustrating. They definitely need to be trained. Note: 1. They have no 9-hole rate. The cost is the same whether you play 9 holes or 18 holes, which is ridiculous on my opinion. Go play at Kern River Golf Course where the course is much better, albeit, less amenities. 2. No cart girl. Make sure you get the drinks and snacks before you head out to hole 1 or before you head to hole ten. With training and better grounds crew, this place has a lot of potential. Played this past week and the course is in magnificent shape, greens are nice and rolling true, fairways are very plush, the best I've ever seen them and the best in Bakersfield. Hit a few balls before our round and it's nice to be able to hit off grass and not a mat, and the balls are good. This review is for their driving range. The range is ok. There aren't many options in town. This is one of the better ranges. They have an outdoor range ball machine so you don't need to go inside the Club house to make a purchase. The machine does take credit card. The prices have just gone up again. Gotta love inflation. Their bucket of ball prices are as follows: Small (40 balls) $7 , Medium (80 balls) $14, Large (100 balls) $17. I usually get a Large bucket and it lasts me about 45 mins. On the right side of the main driving range area and behind it, there are a couple of practice greens if you want to work on your short game. Also, there is a sand trap if you want to work on your pitching. The putting area is right by the Club house. They've taken away the putting cups and flags due to Covid. I loved hearing the sound when the golf balls drop in the tin cups. Hopefully they will bring those back. Tip: You can get a discount if you purchase their E-Range Key. My husband and I just went golfing at RL yesterday afternoon. And we won't be going back.. not because of the flooded sand traps the overgrown weeds and mud, or the fact that there was only 1 ball washer on the course to clean the mud from the flooded traps and grass. Or even that one of the holes didn't even have a red T box! It was because of the obnoxious rude teenagers who were allowed the ride our rears crawl up the fairway while we were still on it and treat us like they owned the course and we were In Their way. They were obnoxious and disrespectful! And when I went in the clubhouse to let them know. The teenagers working the pro shop acted like it was ‍no big deal. So if you like being harassed by entitled teenagers by all means !! Go golf at Riverlakes. read more

I originally booked for an outdoor ceremony, but the weather forecasted rain, so Cathy was kind enough to accommodate an inside wedding (at no extra charge). But we still were able to at least take photos outside after the wedding! This venue is beautiful, reasonably-priced, and Cathy is great to work with! Played a round today and it was $55... greens were punched... again.... And the corse is in horrible condition. Bunkers filled with nasty water, condition around the greens were terrible. Hands down the worst course in Bakersfield and at the same time, the highest priced in Bakersfield. They are very proud of their location cause at this point, it's all they have left. Would recommend going to another corse to get a round of golf in. Terrible! read more

I actually like this course and the way it plays. It's challenging, well kept, and diverse in layout/pin placements. What really bothers me, however, is the unprofessionalism of some of the cashiers/pro shop staff. The regular cold treatment really makes me second guess coming here again, and with so many county courses nearby, it's an easy decision to make to go somewhere else based on this alone. Management: Please, talk to your staff and perhaps provide some additional customer service training. This course is a local gem that's being tarnished by something that could be easily fixed. read more

The course and driving range has really gone to sh*t. The driving range is uneven. They done even have buckets of water to get you towel wet of clean your clubs. The course is also in bad shape. Fairways have little grass on them. If you hit the fairway, be prepared To have a tight lie. They charge $60 on weekends. Any of the county courses are less than that and all the county courses in kern county are equal or better than Riverlakes. Then you get to the staff. They are very rude. Not helpful at all. There I a male kid that works up front who is gonna get his teeth rearranged at some point for the way he talks to people. read more

Another course that uses Farmer John cow manure to fertilize the course and greens. The layout is the most modern in Bakersfield but again it's in Bakersfield and Bakersfield does not do golf well all the track are cow pasture pool at its worst and the management is one if the areas worst which is really saying something as Bakersfield has the worst courses in California all of which are poorly run by people with very little golf industry experience. read more

I played this course for the first time 20 years ago and it was in terrific condition, sadly since then it's condition has steadily deteriorated the course itself is a wonderful layout it needs a major input of TLC. The staff are friendly and professional and the prices are pretty reasonable I visit the area 3 to 4 times a year and always book a tee time but until they restore decent course conditions this will be my last visit read more
