Admittedly went late... Close to closing time. Food selection was pretty slim at the time. What was there was OK... they did have roast turkey, and since it was close to closing, they said they only make one a night and they weren't going to make a second one. Of course that makes sense so at least you know that will be fresh if you get there in a timely fashion. People were friendly so that was nice. Before Covid, I have gone in here a few times and tables were clean and staff came by often for drink refills. The buffet has tons of options. During Covid, I ordered take out a few times. We were coming with my friend driving from Calgary... without eating all day because we flew from Philadelphia, you can imagine how hungry we were at that time. So... following our "fat instinct" we decided to look for a chinese buffet to fill up. Well, we saw this restaurant in the way to the hotel so we stopped. My first impression was that it had a lot of variety, and the food looked "fresh enough". Well... as I said, the variety was there, the freshness too but (yes, I always have a "but"... ha ha ha :) ) the flavour was not. The food was tasteless and lame... it was like the chef just combined any asian sauce and spyces to make it look appetizing but I can bet he did not even taste it before serving it. The service was good, the waitress was very nice and fast with our drinks. I personally don't like the buffets with low lights because it makes me feel like they are hiding the dirt. Was it super bad?... no. But it is not a place that I will come back if I have any other choice (including Tim Hortons). Now, if you are looking for a lot of different dishes and you are not demanding with your palate... go for it. Definitely a place for quantity over quality. read more

The meal I had today was just okay. $13.99 for my meal, and $5.99 for a kids meal. the chicken balls had a good amount to meat inside and were cooked well; crispy, and not to doughy. The vegetables were fresh in the beef and broccoli but the meat was tenderized or something, it was almost like it was prechewed. The hot and sour soup was very watery and had a strong vinegary taste and also very salty. There was a cream Cheese dessert that seems like it could've been banana cream pie but really didn't have any flavor of any kind. I arrived right at 4 o'clock when the Steamline first opened so most things should've been fresh but it seems like some items were replaced from lunchtime, the sauces were congealed and some foods were very dry. First time here for lunch buffet. Had the "Chinese" food items. Selection was okay for lunch, including salad and ice cream. The wonton soup was authentic tasting and the deep fried wings were yummy. Other items were average. Service was friendly and nothing less than excellent. The restaurant itself is a good size and very clean. I think it's a great value for a lunch buffet and I will drop in again next time I am in town. read more

If there was a way to rate this restaurant anything lower than a one I would! My experience was absolutely AWFUL! It was so bad it actually prompted me into making a Yelp account just to leave this review. Quick backstory, my parents and I traveled two hours away from my small home town to Medicine Hat for some personal business. Sitting in the cold car traveling during a rather cold time of the year not only were we freezing our asses off but also extremely hungry. Anyways we stopped by our hotel to check in and we asked the front desk staff what should we have for dinner. His response was Medicine Hat Buffet, and damn I wish we didn't listen. When we got there our waitress was extremely short with us. The food in the buffet was all ice cold, it was like as if it was pulled out of the fridge and put out for customers. Not only that but the food itself was horribly bland. We told our waitress and then waitress told the manger who seemed to just shrugged it off. After it was all said and done it came time to pay. The manger knowing full well neither of us were satisfied charged us full price which was a grand total of twenty dollars each anyways. Displeased, I walked to the KFC beside this "restaurant" where I was treated with respect and the staff made a point to serve me hot fresh food after I explained to them what I had just went through. I highly recommend to just keep on searching for a restaurant when you see The Medicine Hat Buffet, and I suggest the staff of that restaurant to take something from the KFC's book beside them and serve hot fresh food and treat costumers with respect and understanding when they're VERY unsatisfied. read more

usually we have a real good experience, however tonight's supper was a disappointment. The beef and broccoli had a totally different taste to it, the sauce had way too much oyster sauce and thickening agent in it was a pasty feeling to it and the shrimp left an after taste of mold. I used to come here frequently when my parents lived in MH. The only place my mom would come. She knew a good deal when she saw one. It's been 5 years and I am happy to report the food is still delicious and plentiful Truly something for every one from roast beef to pasta to seafood and all sorts of Asian delights Don't forget the salad bar and dessert bars. Bad news. I have been there three times and never again. The food looks like it has been sitting out all day long, and it is really not very good. We used to go all the time because my kids liked it. And just about every time we left all of us, except my son who would eat a couple hotdogs and a few fries) would feel sick the rest of the day. The food never seems particularly fresh, especially the larger selections of meats that tend to sit there all night, and none of it is particularly special or well made. My guess is that most of it is cooked from frozen. Add that to what I think is a pretty expensive price, and I can't believe we went as often as we did. Never got a chance to eat here. I had a party of 16 and wanted to phone ahead to see if they would sell my wife a small bowl of rice as she is recovering from surgery and can't eat much. I was rudely told they did not need my business since years ago some one burnt them; they are not willing to accommodate ANYONE. So we went down the street and had a great meal and excellent service at ARGOs. If you have children or special needs, go somewhere else.
