I am so surprised I can find such authentic flavours in a small town. We six people had dinner here and shared all the dishes. We like the green curry the best. Other dishes are summer rolls, prawn rolls, tom yum soup, Thai BBQ chicken with coconut rice,drunken noodle and mango rice as dessert. We like all of them. It's the first time I try coconut rice. It is very aromatic. One of the best Thailand meals I had in Canada. Especially the soup, it tastes like the one I had in Thailand. Some may think it is too sour but I love it. One of the best Thai food restaurant I visited, the ingredients they use must be very good because the flavour in the plates represented. The level of "hotness" in the entrees can be from mild to extra hot but still maintain the taste of the food, not just burning your tongue. The service is friendly and patience if you take time to order because you are asking questions about the different plates. Ordered the "authentic" Tom Yum soup. They use the word "authentic" to refer to their spiciest version. The Tom Yum was not spicy at all, in fact it was very bland, a can of times to soup and a dash of pepper would has more flavor and spice. The fresh rolls and dipping sauce was very bland as well. I think this place is under new ownership as we have been happy with it in the past, but this time was awful. Service was not terrible until we complained, but then became surly and rude. This place has been here for just around 9 years, but it was first in Bow Island! Well done Ken! Incredibly yummy, the owner Ken, (fantastic guy) has spoiled us and brought us a hot fish sauce with rice balls. Quite good, with a serious zip! Fresh flavours that are not overwhelming, they marry well! Quite good! The meals arrive! Lemongrass chicken, traditional pad Thai with veggies and mahi-mahi fish. The lemongrass chicken was rice flour breaded and seemed to absorb the flavour well. It was deliciously balanced, with both taste and texture! Other phrases for the lemongrass, totally awesome and very delicious!! The mahi-mahi was flakey and flavourful like you wouldn't believe! The batter was almost more of a tempura style rice flour, than a thick batter and was done very well. As for the chicken pad Thai, nice tender pieces of chicken that were breaded just right. Not too much and not to little. The sauce was very authentic. Tonight we had two people who have never had Thai food and after visiting this place, they are sold on this cultural experience! As always, time for dessert... We're trying to decide between the coconut cremme brûlée and the deep fried bananas. Ok we'll have both! I've had my fair share of deep fried bananas and they're often really mooshy and soggy, these ones are not! As for the creme brûlée, it's nice and cool. The crust is very thin, I'd rather have a thicker crust but it still was a very nice mix of flavour. Jelena was our server, she put up with us well! High five to her. I have been a devoted patron for many years. It was my late fathers favourite Asian style cuisine. We frequently ate in but in his later years we would often order in for family gatherings. My latest experience was not up to par. We went in with a group of family, 9 of us. I had the special, surf and turf. The chicken and beef seemed to be left overs. The large amount of mussels over powered the broth. The two shrimp were nicely warmed from a freezer pack. The large strings of ginger were an after thought and I was the last served making everybody wait until I was served. Not good food or service. read more

It tastes good. When you eat the food you can taste all of the flavors in the meal. It is costly but like all Thai food in alberta it costs a lot. Also if you like spicy food, note that the medium is not spicy at all. And the authentic is not spicy if you usually eat spicy food. read more

Let me be clear: we have never eaten in at Thai Orchid Room. That said, we have ordered takeout a number of times and have always been happy with both the flavours and quality of the food. It has a fantastic variety of tastes, and employs fabulous colours in each of the foods they make. The one thing that prevents them from achieving five stars in my books is the price. The service were great. They are really friendly and accommodate our dairy free/ gluten free diet. Pad Thai was big portion but favour wise was ok. I was looking for that charcoal favour and some heat but middlium isn't hot at all. Spicy level in Alberta and BC are very different. I guess people are not used to spice here. I ordered a take out and it turned out it was too much for my husband and I. We had some left over the next day. The salad doesn't have fish sauce which is a crucial ingredient for Thai food...maybe because people are not used to the smell and taste? Perhaps they try to adjust to the locals here but I found the Thai salad need more favour then just lime juice. I love fish sauce. The price is pretty over priced...I guess I'm too used to Good BC Thai food. Over all it's ok. I found it funny that the Thai food here have Vietnamese salad rolls...it turned out that a lot of Thai restaurants owners here are from Laos which mean their food have both Thai and Vietnamese influences. I found many Asian restaurants here do more Asian fusion instead of just one type of food. It's very different then BC...people in Vancouver want to go to specific restaurants because their food is good and authentic but I guess in Alberta , people wants to be able to try different Asian cuisines in the same restaurant. read more

We stopped over on the way to Toronto. The staff was very friendly and relaxed. I ate so many Thai food in bigger cities but their food was very authentic to their home style and it was very tasty. It is great to see that Medicine Hat finally has an awesome Thai Restaurant! I lived here 19 years ago and the restaurants were mediocre at best, back then. My boyfriend took me here last night. They were busy on a Saturday night but we lucked out and were seated after a 20 minute wait. It would be ideal to have a reservation. Many people who passed us did. I had the Tom Kai Soup and it delicious and flavourful. My boyfriend had the traditional Pad Thai. It was a huge serving and he ate most of it. I tasted it and it was a great balance of flavour. They get it.. We shared a nice prawn roll appetizer and had some exceptionally delicious Jasmine tea with our meal - a must try if you like Jasmine Tea. For dessert I had the sticky coconut rice with mango. It is a favourite of mine and it did not disappoint! It was prettily presented and I thought and about taking a photo for Yelp, but the urge to dive in right away was too strong! *LOL* Our server was very good - attentive, considerate and informative, despite being very busy. Just recently moved here from Vancouver and I wanted something Ethnic and not the usual "western" food like the other 95% of restaurants in Medicine Hat offer. This is by far the best Thai restaurant I have ever been to! I had the Peanut Curry and it was excellent. Prices were fair for what you got and the décor was great. Our waitress was excellent as well and came by just the right amount. My boyfriend ordered the Drunken Noodles and loved it. I really enjoy the food and ambiance at this restaurant. they are very helpful if one is not familiar with Thai cuisine and they are also aware and have some dishes acceptable for those with gluten intolerances. I believe that the prices are decent for what you get as well as how it is presented. For those of you who are traveling east towards Moose Jaw, there is a really good Thai restaurant in Moose Jaw called " Nits". It does not look the greatest from the outside but I found the food better than the Thai Orchid With larger portions at a cheaper price. I don't understand any of the poor reviews here. When we feel like going somewhere special this is the place. We will order an appetizer and a few main dishes to share, and it is always fantastic. We never order any of the specials, though they look very good. I like that the owner Ken will wander around with his iPad showing great photos of the specials. Unfortunately we're the kind of people who find things they like and aren't too daring when it comes to the exotic dishes. The Pad Thai is great (order it authentic, of course) and the green curry with beef is a new fave.We usually split some spring rolls and coconut shrimp to start. My only complaints would be the bathroom location and the lack of a vestibule at the front of the restaurant - sometimes when it's -25C out and there are several people coming or leaving, those tables at the front get pretty cold. But that's pretty tough for them to fix, and not a deal breaker for us in the least. Love the food, and the owners are very nice and accommodating. The wait staff seems to have very little turnover also, which is nice to see, as they all become very knowledgeable about the menu over time. **TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE** A friend and I walked into the restaurant, the receptionist was talking on the phone (we later found out that she was just a cunt). We sat down and waited for 10 minutes while she was talking. She told us to move because our table was "reserved" we later found out that the reserved tables were already occupied.
