As predicted, it turned out to be a Beautiful and calm night. We ended up watching the fireworks from shore. They contract out their crews so it may have been that something fell apart on that side for the night trip. Just be prepared that they may cancel for any reason. A local captain we met during the fireworks show in Camden surmised that there was likely something else besides the weather in their decision. Others in our party were committed to getting in a harbor tour so we ended up getting a day sail earlier in the day. It was a Beautiful day. Competent and friendly captain and crew. They did an excellent job of hosting the harbor tour. Absolutely Beautiful boat. Great way to spend some time on the water. Be prepared for alternative plans.

He was engaged yet not overbearing, instructful but not over the top know it all, he made our vacation feel like a vacation, and by the end of the trip he was border line family. @mainekayak is hands down the best trip you can take managed by the best people around. You will never forget tour adventure with Hauns and I cannot encourage people enough to get out of their comfort zone (or even for the experienced) and pick up a paddle and get on the water with Hauns and Maine Kayak. We went on a family kayaking trip and used Breakwater Kayak as our guide and outfitter for the…read moretrip. It was very easy to work with the staff to make the arrangements, and they made the trip happen even though they were not fully staffed for their in-season time. When we arrived the staff had taken the kayaks down to a grassy area in the park. The guide got us fitted with life vests, paddles, and spray skirts, and then it was down to the boats for some quick lessons about paddling technique. We were soon out on the water. The guide did a great level of working with our level of experience and provided clear directions about the paddle. We crossed the bay from the put in location to the Breakwater Lighthouse. While this lighthouse is accessible by walking the length of the breakwater (.8 miles) it was great fun to see it by the water. Once we got to the light, we then paddled down the length of the breakwater to a beach by the Samoset resort. The wind was blowing pretty strong from the shore, so this was a pretty good paddle. Once we got to the beach, we were able to get out of the boats for a few minutes and then we were back on the water. The next leg was a pretty good open water crossing again as we made our way back across the bay towards the shipyards. Here you get to see some of the industrial sides of the water. People who depend on the sea to make a living. There was a fishing dock where large fishing boats offload, there is the coast guard station, and then there is the marina and restaurants. Overall we were on the water for just over 3 hours. Our guide was fantastic. She was very knowledgeable about key subjects and really provided a very educational as well as enjoyable paddle. We heard stories about the lighthouses, we learned the history or the area, the lobster fishing industry and all about the ports. While Breakwater Kayak is a smaller operation than some of the others in the area, you are guaranteed to get a well-trained guide who is really wanting to make sure that you have a safe and memorable adventure.

He sailed us to the Islands of Mattincus , and Monhegan , to east Booth bay and Vinyl Haven , South West harbor , and many new and interesting places. The crew was very well trained and worked great together, on sailing the vessel, and catering to the passengers needs . Then there was the chef and galley hands . They did an excellent job of preparing the meals , and and catering to the passengers, dietary needs . You meet passengers from all over the us, and Canada . Who become family , by trips end . I highly recommend sailing on the Victory Chimes . If you want a unique, relaxing , and satisfying vacation, it's impossible to to beat !

My first interaction with Peter was actually by telephone, accusing him of fake TripAdvisor…read morereviews... turns out, they are NOT FAKE and he is an amazing guy. My wife and I decided to go with him because he was a lot more flexible than his competitors, Old Quarry. First of all, Peter basically catered the tour to our needs. Second of all, his prices were worth the small group attention. Third, Old Quarry has a terrible website and Peter's is great. We have both kayaked before, so we wanted something half-day that would provide a short intro and then get us into some small coves. What we got was wonderful. First, Peter went over sea kayaking safety and the game plan (To be honest, this part needs to be shortened up, but I think that will happen organically as the season progresses). Then, we took the boats down and put into the water at Naskeag Point. We kayaked around and went to Sellers Island for lunch. Peter told us all about the islands and about this cool kayak trail they have where you can camp for free on these small islands. We wandered some more after lunch and started heading back. We asked Peter about his experiences on El Camino - he has some amazing stories! When we got back to his house, he let us shower and stuff before heading to our B&B up the road for dinner. You can book rooms at the house and we would have done this if we'd known about it before we booked our other accommodations. It was really a lovely trip, and we hope to pass through again someday.

We spent the day kayaking with Peter, and it was a wonderful experience for all of us (my husband,…read more11-year-old son, 13-year-old daughter, and me). Peter was so knowledgeable and patient. He did a wonderful job tailoring our experience so that it was the right level for our kids, but was still an exciting adventure for all of us. Penobscot Bay is probably one of the nicest, most beautiful places to sea kayak I can imagine. I am not an expert, but his equipment was top notch, which made the paddling easy and our experience more comfortable. I had been worried that our younger son would lose steam, and he was usually out ahead! I can't recommend Peter enough and we hope we are lucky enough to do another trip with him at some point.
