The camp community truly is a family, generations of kids attend and then send their kids. It's a back-to-basics type place. Nothing like a competitive sports camp. Every afternoon all the campers swim in the "swim hole", which is part of a beautiful river. In the morning kids can choose from several activities including crafts, horse riding, music etc. The camp is located in the "Trinity Alps."

It was heartbreaking to hear about his experience when he came home. There was active bullying throughout the camp and no adult interference with that or redirection. Swear words were common without any redirection as was inappropriate conversations and behaviors. One thing that really bothered me was that nudity was acceptable including in the showers with camp counselors. This was not advertised or talked about. It was very disturbing to get a letter from my son talking about his camp counselors penis. I did connect with the Director when I did receive that letter who explained to me that they have a locker room type open set up there in the showers and that the kids are given an opportunity to shower by themselves (although my son said he didn't get that option), if they're more comfortable. I don't think it really hit me how much that bothered me until my son came home and we talked about it further and he shared his own discomfort. Even more bothersome for me was hearing that campers were often naked hanging out casually where he slept. These were his cabin mates who were of the same sex as him but again it was still bothersome to hear that the camp counselors didn't ask kids to put clothes on or consider everybody's comfortability. I do understand that nudity may be a non-issue for some but not for all, and not when it's a bunch of strangers. Lastly my son shared with me that his counselor talked about kissing a girls boobs and for me that was also extremely disturbing and not ok. I had such high hopes for this camp and was so grateful to receive a scholarship for my son to attend, but unfortunately it turned out to be a mistake. There was not appropriate supervision or adult redirection to help kids navigate. As time has gone by my son continues to share stories that just break my heart and upset me that I sent him to this camp. We will not ever go back to this camp. If you have a younger kid, I would really suggest thinking twice before sending them here. Two weeks is a long time for a kid to navigate uncomfortability, bullying, and exposure to inappropriate language/ concepts and ideas.

The instructors are kind, caring and very good at what they teach. There are classes for lots of different age groups too. My son started when he was 5 or 6 I think and he is almost 9 now. They have beginner classes and also classes for more advanced kids. I feel very safe leaving my kid at these classes and he comes home and is totally inspired to create new and exciting things he learned. We have also had this company for a birthday party and it was a hit with all the kids who came. They bring tons of different legos for the kids to create with, and help design a special theme that all the kids can build and contribute too. Totally great for winter birthday parties like we have! Prices are totally reasonable for the classes and birthday parties too. Highly recommend signing up for a class over summer break or they even have them during Spring Break and Winter Break. Forestry Camp (circa 1917) is run by UC Berkeley's Forestry Department/College of Natural Resources…read moreand is situated in Meadow Valley, CA in Plumas County. The closest "big town" is Quincy (about 15-25 minute drive away), and the closest "city" would be Reno, NV about 100 miles away (about two hours). Every summer, Forestry Camp is home to an intense 8-week summer course that sees undergraduates from various disciplines and universities taking four introductory forestry courses. They familiarize students with the local Sierra Nevada ecology, map and compass skills, and forestry equipment (e.g. diameter to breast height tape, clinometers, etc.) before tackling more advanced topics including silviculture and utilization (how to grow trees and then utilize the end products known as lumber). It is an extremely exciting session, and it is required of all Forestry students at Cal. It is a fast way of earning a Forestry minor at Cal, which was what I did. Students from other universities across the nation (not just limited to the UC system) may apply and sign up for camp. It usually accommodates between 30 to perhaps 45 campers. Students are housed in "bunkhouses" comprised of four rooms with two students to a room. If there aren't as many students for a year though, you may end up having a room all to yourself (as was my case). Other students who want a more up-and-close experience with nature can opt for "shantyhouse cabins" that are standalone cabins on the outskirts of camp. They have mesh screens and aren't as insulated as a result. They're still two to a cabin, and are hotly sought after at the start of camp. There is plenty more information that I want to write about Forestry Camp, but there is a text limit on Yelp so I've striven to provide an introductory text to what it is. But I do want to say that coming to camp during my undergraduate career was one of the best decisions I made in college. Of all my years of education, I have never felt like I have learned anything more useful than what I did here. I was always appreciative everyday going to class that I was learning among all these towering Douglas Firs and sugar pine trees. I felt that I lived more in the 56 or so days I spent here in Meadow Valley than in my whole life. Of course, your mileage may vary. All in all, Forestry Camp is home to an amazing collegiate experience. You spend almost your entire day with your fellow campers, seven days a week. You learn so much about a critical natural resource. And then on the weekends you go to Thunder Cafe and recreate in the woods and creeks. If you want to learn more, hit me up.

I also have one other point of reference for the place, some of the more excentric self possessed kids at my high school in Berkeley had attended Camp Winnarainbow... The camp itself was founded by Wavy Gravy, who contrary to what some young folk might think, is more then a Ben and Jerrys ice cream flavor - or at least equal to an ice cream flavor, i mean a good ice cream. Wavy was a clown back in the days when he was MCing woodstock and running a pig for president. The camp started out focusing on clown skills, and now has grown to a full fledged performing arts camp. The kids will learn juggling, stilt walking, face makeup, magic, unicycle riding, acrobatics, dance, acting, etc. There is, as expected, a focus on creativity and fun through it all... Also note that it is not only for kids. The also offer a one week "adult camp" where us old folk can learn to be kids again, at least for a couple of days.

I have been to Woodleaf several times, as a camper and as a worker. I have always had the most…read moreamazing time while there. When I was there as a camper, I was astounded by all of the cool things we got to do - mountain biking, zip lining, blobbing, ropes course(ing?)... They also have a great bead shop, snack shop, and pool. Since I was a camper, they've added a climbing tower, really fast slides (which are apparently amazing), and a gigantic swing. I also really liked the food... mmm churros for dessert. There are surprises everyday, lots of games and activities, fun skits, and plenty of interaction with other campers. The camp itself is western-y and the cabins are very nice for a summer camp. As a camper, I remember thinking that everyone who worked there was so friendly and genuine. And once I became a worker there, I realized it was because everyone there had this amazing heart for Jesus and passion for the youth. There is a "speaker" who throughout the week explains what Jesus Christ did for us, and it is amazing to see how many kids are touched by the message. Being at Woodleaf is truly an amazing experience.

The chakra tents were amazing but were also occupied by people doing healing and sex. The crystal display was amazing and the pull of energy was dynamic. There was free yoga and massage (fee). It was about $1 per minute for massage and or Reiki. The water was fun but small. There were a few food carts and a bar. Clothing was for sale but expensive. The leather hip belts started at $80. It was a great experience and will be back next year....with a face mask.
