If there were half star ratings on Yelp this might get 3.5 but the one thing I was really unhappy with was quite a big thing, so I can't bring myself to rate them 4 just yet - I'll need to go back and try it again. After seeing a couple of friends posting on Facebook about the breakfast here, we thought we'd head in on a rainy Sunday morning and give it a go. First niggle was that the music was shocking - they were actually playing Celine Dion doing the Titanic theme when we went in, and it didn't get any better from there. Normally I can tune out background music but it was just too loud for that and there were 2 or 3 songs I actually hate, which didn't help. However, that's purely personal taste so not really a big deal. They do a big breakfast for £5.50 or a full Scottish breakfast for £4 - the main difference is that the big breakfast has two of everything while the full Scottish has one. We were pretty hungry so we both ordered a big breakfast. You can choose your eggs fried, scrambled or poached, and they ask how you like your eggs cooked, which is a nice touch. When you see how much you get for your money, it is actually seriously good value. We ordered large cappuccinos and got white coffees with no foam on top at all - really just a latte. This isn't a big problem as a lot of places in Scotland still don't know the difference, but this is an authentic Italian and I was surprised they couldn't make a real cappuccino. The coffee was nice enough though. The breakfast was mammoth and mostly really tasty - bacon, sausages, black pudding, potato scone, eggs, beans, mushrooms. The toast looked lovely, it was thick- cut crusty bread, but that's where it went horribly wrong. I have no idea what they spread the toast with but it tasted rancid, seriously like something was mouldy. I actually spat a mouthful of chewed toast out onto the plate, it was so bad. Him Indoors didn't think his was as bad although he wasn't keen on it and left most of his too. When I asked the waitress, she said they had run out of butter and the chef had gone next door to the newsagents and bought some "you'd never know it's not butter" margarine or something. She was really apologetic and offered to make me some more toast, but I said it was okay and just finished the rest of the breakfast. I did try the toast again after she said it was definitely fresh margarine that was on it, but I swear to goodness I couldn't eat it, it honestly just tasted mouldy and like something had gone bad. She was really nice about it and I wasn't in the mood to make a fuss, although I did joke with her that I could definitely tell it wasn't butter! However, it left a really nasty taste in my mouth (literally as well as figuratively) so I was glad that she brought a couple of mints with the bill, as I really needed it. That's why I can't bring myself to rate them higher - I've never spat food out in a restaurant ever before and I don't think much of them thinking it's okay to put cheap corner shop fake spread on their toast instead of real butter. And I'm not convinced it was just that - even cheap margarine doesn't taste mouldy and off. The lovely waitress did knock 10% off the bill for us (she said she'd taken off 20% but I did the maths and it was only 10%; however still appreciated) and said that she'd send somebody up to the Co-op to buy real butter immediately (don't know why they didn't just do that in the first place) so we left on good terms with the place and I'd definitely go back to give them another go.

You'd think that countless raving reviews, well - more comments - from friends and friends of friends would not make my body do such things. Yet, there I was. Thankfully, after adjusting to being out in a restaurant - that I had NOT been in before - situated in the glittering, glamorous West End and with the boy, I had a grand time. The food attempts to be 'authentically Scottish'; pardon the British category above, but Scottish is not an option on the list. This is most likely due to Scottish food seeming to consist of fish suppers and the like. Anyhow, there is a good range of 'Scottish' food here, as well as steaks, chicken dishes and the usual pasta/pizza/burger stuff you can expect to get anywhere now-a-days. The prices could be a little much but if you make the most of their lunch or pre-theatre deals you'll be laughing as much as your bursting belly can. Additionally, try the cocktails they are to die for. Although, sadly they are not included in the lunch/pre-theatre deals...

It's the perfect place to take your parents if you're tired of getting the same ole Italian. Scottish menu, beautiful set up, excellent service, and absolutely delicious. It's classy without the attitude, and it's perfect. I stuffed myself absolutely full, though I didn't realise it at the time. I didn't look like a lot of food when I saw it, but it adds up course by delicious course. To top it off, I ordered a cheese plate for my dessert, and, full of local cheeses, it was absolutely splendid. Everything about this restaurant is very well thought out. I was wholly impressed by the entire visit. The only wee part about it was having to take the lift to get to the toilets. But other than that, I can't find any fault with it at all.

I'm not a huge fan of northern French cuisine as it tends to have too much dairy in it for my taste; however Cote are very amenable to offering alternatives where possible so I didn't have much trouble finding something acceptable. Their lunch and early evening menu is very good value for money; however we were too late to partake of that on the Friday evening so it was a la carte and the specials menu all the way! It was starting to get busy but the staff seemed to be coping well - at least until they tried to serve us with the wrong set of starters... things went slightly downhill after that. Next, my side dish of butternut squash failed to arrive with my main course of hake. Our server was very apologetic of course, and once remedied it arrived fairly promptly - or at least before the fish went cold. The next hiccup was with the order of our second bottle of wine. The first had been a complimentary one that you get on your return visit if you register with them on their website, so naturally we took full advantage of that! However, when the wine waiter brought the second bottle (recommended by the house), he erroneously said it was a Languedoc wine, when in actual fact it was from the Loire. That's a pretty basic mistake for a wine waiter to make, and blaming it on his line manager is a pretty feeble excuse that smacks of poor training. Then another flask of water arrived, although we hadn't even started the first one as they had failed to provide water glasses! Oh well, we'll just carry on with the wine, shall we? We had enough room for dessert, and at this point our ever-apologetic server surprised us by offering a half-bottle of dessert wine for the table at her own expense. Jolly nice it was too. Clearly they were having a bad night when we visited; however the actual food was top notch, the staff could not have been more attentive and apologetic, and they did their utmost to sort things out. I don't blame them for the cock-ups and it certainly will not stop me from enjoying the delicious food here in future.

But then I got distracted by the idea of macaroni cheese so ordered that and a Coke instead. The rest of the menu is kind of standard - baked potatoes, sandwiches, as well as larger hot mains like mince and tatties, pasta, chili. Inside, the cafe is nice. Nothing really stands out in terms of decor but it's bright and there's lots of seating. I'd say the crowd is definitely the older demographic as well as parents with kids. My food didn't take long to arrive and even though the topping was burnt in parts it still looked pretty good. Once it had cooled down a bit, it was really tasty and there was a tonne of cheese in there so it had a lot of flavour. I would say the portion wasn't massive - I could have definitely eaten more. It came with some slices of bread as well as a salad which I confess I didn't eat - bread with mac doesn't seem like the right combination to me and I'd prefer garlic bread or toast at least. The staff were super friendly and helpful, and chatty too. Really lovely and welcoming. The only reason this isn't a 4-star review is the price. For a lunch portion of mac cheese (which wasn't huge) and a soft drink the bill was over £11. Now I know this is Clarkston but I just don't see how a macaroni cheese can be £8.95 when it's essentially just cheese and pasta.

I had chicken, which was cooked nicely and came with just-right portions of mash, spinach and tomatoes. My boyfriend had salmon, which wasn't the best ever tasted, but still decent. Most of the problems we had, had to do with the service. We had reservations for 8:00, and we arrived on-time. However, though the website advertised free parking for patrons, it was unclear where this parking was. When I went in to ask, the man at the check-in station first told me, in a very rude tone, that there WAS no free parking for hotel guests. When I told him I wasn't a hotel guest, but had reservations at the restaurant, and that the website explicitly said, in a giant, red banner that there was free parking, he said oh, it's at the Concert Square car park and if you bring in your ticket, they'll validate it. Free parking might not be a big deal to some, but we're on a tight budget and needed to economize where we could to enjoy a fancier night out than we usually get to have, without going broke. I stepped outside to call my boyfriend, who had dropped me off to ask while he looked for parking, then came back in. I told the man that I'd like to go ahead and get our table, and he stuck his hand in my face and said "I'll be right with you," then walked off. When he came back, he said they were just clearing our table and it would be ready in just a moment. Half an hour later, after watching 3 other sets of couples be seated, my boyfriend went to ask about it and was told that they were just then clearing a table for us. Another 15 minutes later, we were seated. 15 minutes after that, a waiter showed up, asked for our drink, entree, and dessert orders all at once, which annoyed me. The whole time we were there, it was as if we were being rushed through, while the staff had as little to do with us as possible. I would have ordered coffee with dessert, since someone nearby had one and it smelled good, but I never got the opportunity. All in all, I'm very glad that we had a 2 for 1 voucher, which was the initial reason we went to this place in the first place, because while the food was tasty, it by itself wasn't worth £17 + drinks and an "optional" 12.5% gratuity added to the bill (by this, they mean they automatically add it on and you have to ask for it to be removed). For those prices, I expect good service and hospitality, but frankly, I've had better service at Waffle House. Even with the voucher we used (like I said, we're on a budget - you know how it is), I still don't really feel like we got a good value. If you're looking for someplace a little special to have a nice night out, I'd say: keep looking. If you have buckets of money and don't care if you spend it on just-pretty-good food and not-good service, have at it. Oh, and I'm not sure what the Mr. Uppity McSnoot's problem was with me - maybe it was that I'm female, American, or quite a bit taller than he was, but the man I dealt with in the first place and who eventually seated us kept deferring to my (Scottish, slightly less tall) boyfriend and being perfectly polite to him after being really scoffy and rude to me. P.S. We came home to find that the restaurant sent an email, timestamped 8:30 PM (our reservation was for 8, remember?) to say that our time had been switched to 9:15. What's the point in sending an email when the patrons will have already been expecting a table for half an hour? Had they called us to inform us of the change, we'd have canceled, since we'd pre-booked cinema tickets for 9:30.

We stayed for a few hours drinking wine and eating crisps! I have to say the bar area has a really nice and relaxed atmosphere. It was really quiet only a few other tables, mainly people down from the attached hotel, so we had the privacy to talk between ourselves. The bar service was quite slow, they only had one bartender on and she was also dealing with all the drinks orders from the restaurant side, so that was a bit annoying for her and em. It's pretty pricey, but the wine we had was extremely nice (the Pinot I think), so we didn't mind forking out for a bottle (or two, or three!). Over all I'd really recommend this bar if you: a) Were popping in for a quick drink with relatives/colleagues/anyone you wanted to impress or b) were meeting your (possibly potential) significant other for a nice date night. I think it would be a nice location to start, or end, a date. I'd definitely come back for drinks here.

The interior is really gorgeous and has a feel of cool supper club with wooden floors, leather seats and wood paneling. I especially loved the circular booths along the back wall and the art work was gorgeous. However something wasn't sitting right with me about the interior and after sitting for a few minutes I finally put my finger on it - they used paper table cloths over the linen ones.....REALLY?? They have clearly spent a fortune on the interior, the food isn't cheap and the staff are suited and booted to look stylish and slick and you use paper table cloths? I hate them anyway but in these surroundings found it particularly jarring because everything else was so lovely. The menu in Urban is really really appealing to my taste and everything sounded so delicious. In the end I decided to start with the Braised Beef Cheek served with Parsnip Puree and Crispy Leeks. I'm going to start with the positives - the Puree was deliciously smooth and perfectly seasoned and the beef was tasty and fell apart. The negatives for me were the crispy leeks which weren't crispy, they were chewy and tasted like dried grass and the gravy was quite weird it tasted really flavoursome but the texture was quite gloopy and slimy. Having said that other than the leeks I scoffed the lot. For my main I went for the Lemon Sole grilled which normally comes with Chips and Tartar Sauce. I asked for the fish fillets to come with a side of rocket and parmesan instead. When it arrived the side salad was covered in Balsamic Glaze ( I asked for it without) so it was sent back and the lovely waitress apologised - no harm done. I have no real strong thoughts on my main to be honest, the fish was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious and the salad was lovely with lots of big slices of morish parmesan. No complaints I would happily eat this again. I noticed though that the chips looked like they might be frozen chips - I may be totally wrong but they definitely did not look like a delicious fresh chip. I would expect somewhere with these prices (£55 for 2 for 2 courses) would be serving a gorgeous triple cooked chips. I don't know what it is but I left Urban feeling quite disappointed, I think possibly when I saw the interior that I was expecting fine dinning but it wasn't it was pretty decent food but it didn't blow my mind. If you asked me what they did wrong I would struggle to answer you all I can put it down to was that my expectations were raised to the potential of an exceptional meal but in reality it was just a perfectly good meal.
