What an absolutely delightful place overlooking the wild Atlantic Ocean on the main road through this beautiful Irish village.
Here we found coffees, teas, hot chocolate savoury food and cakes with an art gallery in the basement. Oh and great WiFi.
The young folks running this place tell me they open all year round as there's winter surf - apparently some of the best waves anywhere around are to be found here and there was a few surf shops open when most other businesses are Wu flu shut some forever.
Cornwall be damned this is thee place for really huge winter waves - I'll take their word on this for now but we've booked a hotel stay in the village for the end of November to check it out - from the shore only mind; I've never knowingly gone to a gym and freezing cold salt sea water is for fish and look what they do in it.
This is September 2021 so we are in very strange times with Wu flu, face masks, gallons of hand sanitizer, social distancing and freak weather.
On the day we arrived it was 26c here; I mean Barcelona was only a degree warmer. This is a temperature unheard of in the stark, rugged, almost desolate, North West Ireland - but nevertheless very welcome.
So we parked up, sat on an outside bench in the shade in a hot gentle breeze and I went in to order a cappuccino and a flat white. I think €6.3 for the two.
If I was a Bristolian I'd say the coffees were gurt lush (in the appropriate accent of course) but as I'm a quasi sensible, semi Irish mongrel I'll settle for delicious. In fact so good were they that I compared them to the coffees we had served up in the hot steamy foothills of the Jamaican blue mountain that set us back 12 US dollars. So as I can't easily get back to the Jamaican blue mountain I'll settle for Bundoran today.
They are also very much environmentally aware using paper cups and serviettes, composting used coffee grounds so 4 green stars.
The only downside is disabled folks would find it very difficult if not impossible to reach the steep downstairs rest rooms. read more
