I was introduced to a few new (or shall I say new to me) restaurants that I otherwise might not have discovered thanks to my time at the Graze on Grace event...definitely there next year!

I primarily enjoy the dog jumping, bouldering (watching, not doing ha), and the music. Dominion otherwise sucks so it's nice they put this event on each year for the community.

Welcome to one of the East Coast's largest outdoor festival. This event lives up to most of the…read morehype and I've been several times in the past 5 or so years. It's a great event to be outdoors and spectate. Three days of crazy outdoor fun, hanging out and people watching. Best of all, it's located along Richmond's very own James River. There's a wide range of people that come to this event which include kids, teens, parents, college students/grads, and professionals all come together to enjoy what RVA has to offer. Events include: trail running, kayaking, biking, bouldering, slacklining, stand up paddleboarding, and dog jumping. I am not sure if it was new this year or not but you could sign up to do trails of some of the events and I tried out paddleboarding for the first time which was quite fun. it was my first time in the canal! Only fear was falling in that amazing brown water.. Parking can always be a hassle for events down in this area but I always suggest parking on side streets several blocks away to avoid parking costs. The food lines were insanely long even at hours way after lunch or hours before dinner. This year Matisyahu performed on Saturday Night and his performance and vibe was amazing. There were microbreweries from all over the United States, lots of Belgian beers, German breweries, Scotland breweries and more. Your $40 ticket gets you a tasting cup and all the two-ounce beers you can drink. There was also a VIP ticket ($75) that got you access to an extra tent with snacks and a free T-shirt. I didn't think the added benefits were worth the cost. There were two sessions, one from 12-4 and one from 6-10. I went for the afternoon session. What I liked: it was surprisingly un-crowded. There was a very good ratio of breweries to people and I hardly ever had to wait in line. We arrived a few minutes before the event started and were very impress with the organization. While we waited people came by to check our IDs, give us armbands and programs so when it was time we could walk right on in. Some beers were poured by volunteers, but a lot were poured by actual employees of the breweries who could give educated information about what you were tasting and the brewery. I was also pretty pleased with the food selection. While many events like this just have fair food like nachos and funnel cakes, there were local restaurants with booths set up here. I chowed down on a spring roll and some tasty Asian chicken from Ginger Thai. India K'raja had a booth too. Some of my favorites were: 21st Amendment Brewery Brew Free! or Die IPA, Bluegrass Brewing Co. Bourbon Barrel Stout, Brooklyn Brewery Summer Ale and Williams Brothers Brewing Co. Joker IPA. I was also happy to see some local breweries like Legend, St. George, Old Dominion Brewing Co., Starr Hill and Blue Mountain Brewery. Some standard beers like Pabst Blue Ribbon, Newcastle and Bud Light Wheat were also being poured, which was kind of weird, but the more the merrier. My only complaint: all the beers were divided under two tents and it got HOT under them. I wish there were some fans or something to keep the air moving. It wasn't a huge deal, though, we just stepped outside when we needed to cool off. I'll definitely return to this event next year.

We attended the second session (6-10pm) and enjoyed the cooler temps. The crowds weren't bad at all and I never had to wait more than a minute to try a sample. Some of the more interesting beers I had included the Von Steenberge Monk's Cafe Flemish Sour Ale and the Dogfish Head Forte, a raspberry beer with a 18.5% alcohol content. This wasn't as big as the versions down in Carolina but I hope it was well attended enough in its first year for them to bring it back next year!

I would definitely suggest that. A lot of people were there already. Parking was down the road directed by attendants. It is abbot of a walk from there. But there was a shuttle available. Bring a chair or a blanket to sit on. Bring a cooler with food and drinks and if you have kids something to keep them entertained. Keep it discrete and make sure you bring a cup for those tasty beverages.

But it was padlocked when we arrived. No sign, no explanation. We then tried calling the number on the website but there was no answer. Other attractions in Richmond have updated their websites and/or phone messages to reflect changed hours, procedures, or closures. We went to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts instead and had a nice time. I guess Wilton House will have to wait: but I will call ahead next time, as their website is apparently not reliable.

The parking is a little difficult, due to not being sure if it was ok to park when there are signs saying for permit parking only. If this is a site for events accessible to the public, parking information should be more clear to ease your worry as a visitor. I will return, I was lucky enough to find public parking along the drive leading up to the hall, but my friend had to park in the other areas that are marked permit.

This place ranks right up there with The National and Center Stage, in my opinion, as far as venues…read morefor seeing a performance in Richmond, VA. As I said in my review of the The National, if an event is coming to this venue that interests you, go see it. I have seen two concerts here, Matt Nathanson (my wife made me go and it was actually good) a couple of years ago and Bela Fleck and The Flecktones a couple of hours ago. The acoustics are great and the venue is small and intimate. The seating capacity is just shy of 600 and both shows I went to were reserved seats. There is a small balcony with maybe 100-150 seats. Getting to the venue is no problem, it's right off River Rd on the main campus of the University of Richmond. Since the capacity is so small, parking really is not an issue. There is plenty of room right in the main lot of the Modlin Center. The Modlin Center is home to a couple of art galleries and the music facilities for the campus, I believe. It is a very beautiful building as is most of the campus. Go for a walk or run around UR, it's a cool place to hang out and pretend like you are shelling out 30,000K a year for school ;) It would be a 5 star in my book but they don't have any concessions...

I really liked the location of this event because it was easy to get to and find a park. The one thing that I didn't care for was it was advertised as a free event, with all these things for kids but all the great things for kids required a bunch of tickets. (Thumbs down!!!) clearly the theme of the day was pumpkin because every food booth/truck had some sort of pumpkin flavored food item on the menu. The only thing I ate was a pumpkin pecan cupcake from Ukrops/Martins and let me tell you... It was dee-licious!!! I will be looking for those in martins for sure. I stopped at the crave-tini booth and got a mini-manicure for my daughter. She loved it... But she messed up 5 nails at the movin mania booth when she was jumping rope. There goes that $5 mani! We also stopped by a baptist church booth that had free halloween arts and crafts making pipe cleaner spiders and bat pencil toppers. We painted a face on a gord that supported refugees in the area. Overall.. This event was great, and a lot of fun. Honorable mention... We stopped by the yelp booth, checked in and got a prize by throwing darts at a board. This outdoor wine festival takes place for one weekend every April. About 12 wineries come to the…read moreInnsbrook Pavilion and set up tasting booths. There's also live jazz, arts and crafts and food for sale. A word of warning: this event gets packed! Be prepared to wait a bit to taste, and if it's a hot day, to be dripping with sweat by the end. That said, it's still a fun afternoon of wine tasting. This past year most of the wineries around Richmond were present, including Cooper, Grayhaven, Horton, James River Cellars and Lake Anna Winery. A few from further afield were also present, including Amrhein, Hill Top Berry Farm/Winery, Rebec Vineyards and Rockbridge Vineyards. Veritas Vineyards, one of my favorite Charlottesville area wineries was on site. All their wines are high in quality and soo drinkable. It's always hard to decide what to buy. If you've never done it before, you also have to go by Peaks of Otter Winery. You get to taste a slew of fruit wines, and finish with a hot pepper wine called Kiss the Devil. Everyone shoots it at the same time and then you get a sticker to wear for the rest of the day boasting "I kissed the Devil." Kind of fun. You can buy glasses of wine or open bottles to sip on-site, and sometimes this provides a nice break from the tasting. Tickets are available at a variety of local wine stores and cost $15 in advance and $20 at the door.
