What a place! Well worth the drive and what a picturesque drive it is. The first thing you notice is the magnificent looking silos. On a wet summers day the mist was rolling in so it made it all the more pretty. Everything about the cafe is thought thru, from the bakery to finishing touches of the decor. Our waiter was efficient and had a great sense of humour. He certainly made it all the more memorable. The drinks came quickly followed by our delicious meals. We were there for breakfast but there is everything from buying a loaf of bread and toasting it yourself, pastries to the purchase of three different sized picnic baskets. And if the salads on display are anything to go by I'll certainly be back to order one and stroll through their gardens. They are currently expanding the gardens. But there is plenty to do! From lawn bowls, children's play areas, picnic area and meet bubble and squeak the residents of the pig sty. I couldn't recommend the Piggery Cafe enough. I will certainly be back. I could imagine that it will get busy on the weekends if during the week was anything to go by - so be prepared. Happy eating. read more

Really enjoyed it. We had the cheeseburger, a whole grilled trout with a side of rosemary fries, and a smoked sausage hot and pink from the smoker, a little spicy and served with pickled cucumber and carrot. One of the few places in Melbourne that cooks burgers to order, but unfortunately we ordered medium rare and it arrived well done. Still tasty though! The trout, however, was genuinely AMAZING. Succulent and cooked to perfection on a hot grill. Chips were golden and crispy with a rosemary salt, really good. The sausage and pickles were delicious. There's no phone signal (for us anyway) so it's a rare chance to fully focus without the temptation of peeking at the phone. The meals took a fair stint to arrive, but we weren't there for fast food and the location is incredibly beautiful so it was a nice chance to stop and breathe. Speaking of breathing - we were seated outside, and every time the wind gusted our way there was a waft of .... I don't know what. Sewage? Pigs? Something on the septic side of the scent spectrum (I know, pure poetry). It wasn't pleasant so I removed a star for that. read more

Great destination spot for lunch, gorgeous outdoor picnic tables under the trees, right next to the perfectly manicured lawn bowls, croquet and bocce pitches. The Burnham Bakery and Piggery Café is Shannon Bennett's new venture and rumour has it, there'll soon be a six star resort built here & a micro brewery. The food was yum, we had the BLT on brioche & charcuterie, and five senses coffee was lovely. Watch out for the wasps! Service was pleasant. This spot is available for functions / weddings, etc. Sadly I didn't realise it was a bakery until after we left so next time I will try their baked goodies! They have two funny pet pigs on site, aptly named "Bubble & Squeak". Definitely will return next time I'm looking for a fun day out! Oh I almost forgot! The most important part! Dogs are allowed (on leash) in the outdoor areas and there's an off leash area for dogs near the car park! So bring your pooch! X read more

Having to wait to eat in the Dandenongs is not something I am use to but when it is alleviated by good food and great service I can understand. Good simple food (Wagu Burger and Lobster Roll) plus good coffee. Wait staff who gave us regular updates as to when we would be seated. OH MY! Did i forget to review this spot straight away? Do yourself a HUGE favour and drive out into the hills for a lovely little getaway. There's some pretty grand plans for Shannon Bennett's Burnham Beeches including a brewery and the re-opening of the old hotel, but the spot is worth a visit as is, with the lovely bakery + cafe offering some pretty incredible food offerings. We stopped for lunch and share a range of plates, and everything was absolutely fantastic. Next we had a wander through the gardens, then returned for some cake and coffee in the outdoor area. I came here with a friend and we had a feast! The food is all sourced from the farm onsite so it really is farm to table. I think people often expect 5 star service, but this is a country cafe and I think people need to understand that. The prices are very reasonable for the quality of food you receive. Amazing location! Set in a beautiful old concrete building, this place is one for the books! It has fantastic coffee and an awesome breakfast menu. My friends and I tried the Bircher muesli, the cassoulet and the porridge all of which were fantastic. Super excited to check out the brewery once it's up and running! read more

Gorgeous location and inspirational concept of having a cafe, adjoining bakery, and various other things like a brewery on the plot of land. We were SO EXCITED to find this place! We walked in on a busy Sunday afternoon to dogs running mad and peeing on the ground right in front of tables for patrons. I'm all for dog-friendly eateries, but when the dogs are urinating near people eating, I worry. I had high hopes for the pastries, as the bakery looked busy and flourishing, but our caramel chocolate tarte and carrot cake were pretty disappointing. Overly sweet, oily, and just not that special. I could have gotten the same things at a cafe around the corner. I guess it's all about the experience though. The service and food was very poor on the days we went. Waiters walking past us at the front multiple times without acknowledging our presence for a long time whilst we waited in the freezing cold. When finally met after a long wait, was given quite an impatient attitude. The waffles were burnt and black, but were still served. They're the only shop near the Nicholas Garden, but would suggest checking out other shops nearby elsewhere for a better experience. read more

Wouldn't let us book a table of 6. So drove 2 hours to get there. Rude woman informed us at 12:30pm on Sunday of 2 hour wait to be seated. Our kids were screaming and wife was in tears on her birthday. Why can't you just book a table and if they are 10 mins late you give it to someone else. Left and went to Sassafras. Great meal there with friendly service. Tip: don't go there unless you have a big group booked and they can drain your money! Fail! read more

Ive been waiting for the re-emergence of Burnham Beeches for years. I was genuinely excited to sample their newly opened cafe. However I came away mostly underwhelmed. Maybe being a busy Sunday afternoon didn't help. The place was very crowded. The service was less than tip worthy....the waiter was pleasant but the overall service delivery was slow. I get the whole "cafe style...community tables...perched on stools, can you please pass the salt" thing, (sharing tables with other people) maybe its just not what I expected. So its not a cafe to go to if you want a quiet coffee with someone and somewhere to chat and catch up. I felt like more of a "sit down, eat & leave" culture was being generated here. On the upside: the beer was good and cold. I had a lobster roll which was delicious! My partner had the wagu beef burger which was a tasty and hot off the barbecue. I can come at $8.00 for a side of chips.....if they're good chips, but I wasn't that rapt. I'm going to go here again through the week and try their coffee and perhaps their afternoon tea which is supposed to be really good. Plus they have a delicious looking bakery selling hand made breads, sweet treats and other home made goodies...all worth sampling at the least. read more

I was very excited try this place and had very high hopes. While the food was delicious, the service on the Saturday we went was not good. My friends had the veggie burger and crab burger while I had the barramundi burger. I found the barra burger a bit dry and had a bit too much bun. The chips were very nice as we're the baked goods - carrot cake was deliciously light and moist. Service was very average from the moment we arrived until the moment we left. We stood at the hostess stand with people on checked shirts and aprons zooming past us. We asked at least 3 people what we needed to do to get a table. We had to flag people down to order food and top up drinks. They lost our bill so paying was also not smooth sailing. I would probably return as the location is lovely and to try something different on the menu and hope that our poor service was a fluke. read more

I took overseas guests for breakfast Thurs. 16th March 2017 having been there many times for lunch. What a mistake. This was a shocking dining experience. Don't care attitude of staff abounded. Breakfast food quality sub-standard. Smashed Avo. dish a fail and poached eggs on toast were almost hard centred and all dishes toast was hard, uncutable even with a steak knife! On complaining we were offered a free coffee....(no one checked to see if we wanted to puchase another round before this)..... the gents toilets were broken and the urinal blocked off by a black chair which indicated an earlier paying victim had tried to take his own life by hanging himself! Shannon your breakfast team have lost the plot if indeed there was one. Will not return to the Piggery without an apology. read more

A truly beautiful space and grounds, there's no denying that.... But it does NOT cater to the locals. They couldn't give a rats basically. I found the staff stuck up and rude, obviously because they are working for Mr Bennett... But very average coffee and too expensive breaky. I'll go elsewhere. read more

Arrived at 9.30am hungry and ready for breakfast. We waited to get a seat for 10 minutes (no line, just no staff to be seen). We were then sent (not taken) to a self-service area with dodgy sloped wooden seats (uncomfortable) and given some paper menus. The table was full of dirty plates and glasses (which were not cleared for another hour). We had to line up again to order, which meant standing in a long queue inside for more than half an hour. My order was taken at 10.39am (!) by the single girl operating the till. We then waited... and waited... We counted two staff on floor area for about 90+ people.... Eventually, my cappuccino which was in a tiny cup and was cold (!) came out ... it was only then that we also could ask for some table water. We then waited for food, which came out at 11.10am! The cashew and almond pancakes with banana and seasonal fruit (which cost $14) were TERRIBLE. I could have bought a banana for 80c at the supermarket and been more satisfied. The quarter poached pear was all there was to the 'seasonal fruit'. When I asked the waitress she said that it didn't seem right, but went into the chef and came back and said she was told 'that's what's in season'....The pancakes were dry and overcooked. I'm guessing they were made using almond meal, but maybe some cashews/almonds as a garnish would have been nice. Definitely, some more fruit was needed. Unfortunately, what arrived looked like something my kids could have whipped up in about 10 minutes... In total, I spent $50 for 2x the pancakes, a cold cappuccino, and milk and two boiled eggs with a slice of sourdough bread (eggs and soldiers) for the kids... We waited more than an hour and a half in total from arriving at the restaurant to getting to eat, and left still hungry and feeling extremely dissatisfied. It looks like this place is making a lot of money for not a lot of service or quality! While the grounds are lovely, so are the rest of the Dandenong Ranges, and this place/the service/the food was not worth it! (Even charging 1.6% fee for using a credit card or pay wave!). read more

We can walk there from our home in Sassafras. We are delighted that this is here, and that at last the Burnham Beeches site is being developed. Also delighted that we always see the carpark so full. Good points: Food is delicious, beautifully presented and quite yum. Setting is the old piggery and therefore not glam, but hey it is what is is. Bad points: THE KINDERGARTEN STOOLS!!! I won't go back there because of them. I've been told you can fit more chairs into a space, legally, if the chairs don't have backs. But they are so goddam uncomfortable. Also the wine prices are through the roof. If they would get some bentwood chairs I would go back and pay all that for a bottle of wine. But not until ..... read more
