Never hire Jean Paul Augustin. No communication, left with confusion. He took my money but provided little guidance and didn't listen to anything I said. I expressed what I wanted through divorce agreement and he wrote up several different letters to give to my ex's lawyer where he didn't even address giant issues like splitting equity. He acted confused with what my needs/wants were despite me verbally telling him and writing him organized emails explaining what I needed/wanted in my divorce. With all his editing of emails after telling him he left out very important key issues, he fell off the face of the planet and never answered my questions and instead sent me an invoice which charged me for his own obvious neglect and errors in his writing. He over charged with his own mistakes and I have to pay for my time, my money, and my peace of mind. I even had a deadline I had to make and he completely disregarded it. Absolutely avoid Jean Paul Augustin if you want any professional support or communication. I hired another lawyer who was excellent, communicative and professional. The difference has been night and day. Avoid Jean Paul, you will regret hiring him like I did and do. Stay away if you're a woman going through the divorce or if you're the breadwinner from your relationship. Patrick is money hungry & his puppet Jean Paul has no morals or care about you. They will drag your case telling you to take it to trial up until the week prior and tell you to settle or they will drop you as a client. Then will try to make you fire them so that they end up doing nothing and getting paid for dragging your case. This doesn't even sound legal!! They will also use everything you tell them against you and threaten you sign a deal that they've been advicing against just so they don't go to trial. They did absolutely nothing in the 1 year they dragged the case but bill the $15k! It ended up where it started. He is compassionate, understanding, knowledgeable, and I felt nothing but at ease throughout this VERY long and drawn-out process. Used them for a consumer suit case. I'm not even upset with being sued I'm upset by the lawyer I hired to help me with the case. I feel like I was taken advantage of by my attorney. I feel I was nickeled and dimed through the whole process as my attorney seemed more interested in doing things to increase my bill then what was best for me. I would've been better off dealing with it myself than hiring this firm. I would not recommend to anyone. read more

Last summer, a deck contractor abandoned my project and ripped me off $30K. I hired Burns & Hansen, who market themselves as expert attorneys in Construction Law, and they led me down an unnecessary, very lengthy path and ripped me off $17K. BEWARE when hiring Burns & Hansen! I trusted them to work with my best interest in mind - the opposite happened. They took advantage of my ignorance in law, even though I asked the right questions throughout the process to try to lead us down a quick and easy path to the Contractor Recovery Fund - but that would not have been lucrative for them. If I knew then what I know now, I would have never hired them. HUGE mistake! read more

I was charged over $65,000 for a divorce with no children. Patrick Burns removed himself from my case the day before the Judgement and Decree was due for submission to the judge. He did not contact me until 6:30, well after the 5:00 p.m. cutoff. As a result, I was not able to respond to my ex husbands statements. Since then, I received a letter stating I owe them $35,000. Patrick did not provide the detail for these charges, just the amount due. Kathryn Murphy, my first attorney, left the firm after a year. I have had over 6 attorneys work on my case. Each time a new attorney was assigned, I was charged for getting them up to speed. In addition, Patrick did not have time to work on my case as he had promised and delegated my case to these other attorneys, Hence he was not prepared for court, submitting documents I had not seen prior to the trial. read more

Mr. Burns made a huge mistake in my case by stating I could move forward with a foreclosure action when I could not. He then withheld this critical information for 60 days. I filed a complaint with the Office of Lawyers Professional Responsibility. Unresponsive and incompetent. read more

My wife and I were having problems with our remodeling contractor, who was on the verge of bankruptcy. We first Came to Mr. Hansen simply for advise on the contract we had signed and how to proceed. He gave us some sound advise; legal and otherwise, and we were able to get near the end of our project when we had enough, and just wanted out of the contract. Mr. Hansen negotiated with the contractor's attorney, advised us on what we should accept, and we ended up legally ending our relationship with this contractor and were able to move on. Although our case was really never something that would end up in court, and actually didn't involve a lot of money, nevertheless Mr. Hansen was attentive, responsive and made us feel like he took our small situation seriously. A saying goes "Would you rather be a big fish in a small pond, or a small fish in a big pond"; in our case, we'd just rather have Mr. Hansen as our "pond". read more

I used this firm with Hansen and my ex used this firm with Burns. It seemed that the two lawyers talked a lot about our cases and I felt as if I was always expected to concede to my ex's wishes. I paid a lot of money and went back to Hansen to ask for a refund for the poor service and mistreatment. She asked for a meeting and when I arrived she had a fit and left me sitting in her office for a long period of time while she reviewed my request. She then said she was upset over my poor review. I suddenly realized how poorly I was treated during a contentious divorce and was always misled as to the viability of my case. I was told that I had a good case for two separate mediations and I lost both and was treated poorly during the mediation. Looking back I saw how my ex and these two lawyers used a well meaning person (me) who wanted the best for my son as a way to extract more money from the divorce and meditations. Don't hire this firm as there are legal boundaries being crossed. read more

Do yourself a favor and do your homework before retaining Burns and Hansen's services. Like previous posts say here, I too was charged for services never rendered. Mr Burns asked me to come and discuss my case with him after I called him, and I received a bill for a phone consultation as a result. For nothing more than him saying COME MEET WITH ME TO DISCUSS YOUR CASE. $100 dollars. And he's the one who drafted my original divorce decree. Ten thousand dollars and all he did was pull a previous clients case and swap out those parties names with our names. Needless to say, I'm still paying for my decision to utilize Burns. read more
