Formerly "Buttercups" now Sunnies Bakery located at 450 County Rd 519 in Phillipsburg, NJ. It is a very small bakery sandwiched in between Rath's butcher shop and a Rita's Ice Cream establishment. They don't have many items for sale at any given time. There will be a dozen or so choices that seem to rotate. The key lime squares seem to be a regular as are the apple crumb pie. Now, I have got to say the quality of the items, as far as I am concerned, are very good. The price though is on the high end. Example: two of those key lime squares, though large [about five inches square] and a small apple crumb pie, about seven inch diameter] where $32. Now is that seven inch apple pie better than the one you are going to get someplace else nearby? Yep. Is it twice the price that you'll pay for a larger pie at that someplace else nearby better? That is going to have to be up to you. I know when I have a hankering for it is is, but every day not so much. It is something I treat myself to when I am in the mood for it to the point I don't care how much it costs. :D. There are days like that. It is easy to get to. The parking is plentiful. Mr. Alexander Duppel couldn't have given a sh$t or cared less, terrible attitude for a retail business. Today, May 18th, I bought an extra Lemon-Blueberry cupcake for me to eat, which I ate it while waiting for treatment. It was very dry and fell all over the floor!! Hopefully, the nurses will like them. I will leave earlier for MSKCC next time to pick up bakery items at Costco in Flemington that are much better than this place, and a third the price. I let several neighbors know about this sunnies bake shop. I doubt these people will go there again!! Name of business changed from Buttercups to Sunnies bake shoppe but its still the same owner/ staff. The guy with a beard ( Alex?) does come off rude as a good few other reviews mentioned . Several different visits- he only gives One-word answers with a tone like he can't be bothered with your questions. He didn't used to be like that, when they first opened he was more pleasant. Don't know what happened to him but his demeanor is very upsetting; as a local who tries to frequent this business to support I find myself discouraged to stop by due to his manner. read more

I just went to this place for the first time and the customer service was just terrible. I walked in and there was no one in the shop. The shop was so cute I immediately thought let me take a video for IG. The bald man with a beard aggressively asked me if I knew what I wanted- never being here before I told him I needed a minute to look around. The menu was missing prices so I wasn't exactly sure what to get. They had items from other shops like candles and jewelry on sale and I was looking around. Within the 3 minutes of being there, he rudely asked me 5 TIMES if I was ready and each time I said I was looking. He said "it's exactly what's written there" Some names were like hostess - idk what that is off the top of my head. He was SO RUDE and I was extremely uncomfortable. I felt like he wanted me out of the shop so badly, it was such an awful experience - honestly I wanted to leave. However, it's my mother's birthday and I didn't want to leave empty-handed. By the end, regardless of wanting to get a bunch of things like cookies, candles, and cannoli's I ended up just getting one cupcake for each flavor offered. I absolutely adore this place! We decided to have Buttercups do our wedding cake and it was probably one of the best choices we made when planning our wedding. Straight out the gate, Cara was extremely helpful and responsive, and made sure no stone was left unturned so that we could order exactly what we were looking for. We set up a cake tasting with our parent, and there were 6 of us, which is more than the usual amount of people that do a tasting, but Cara went above and beyond to accommodate us so that both sets of our parents could make it. The tasting was set up tea-party style and was SO cute, even my husband really enjoyed it! The cupcakes were exquisite and we had such a hard time choosing a cake flavor, but managed to narrow it down (seriously I wish I could've had 10 cakes). The design also came out exactly how we wanted and was perfect in every way. We couldn't wait until our 1 year anniversary to eat our wedding cake so we ate it already (oops!), but plan on ordering a remake of the same type of cake for our 1st anniversary so we can enjoy it all over again! 100% would recommend to anyone in the market for a wedding cake vendor. read more

I honestly can say that the one time I visited and tried Buttercups will be my last. I went in based on a friend's recommendations. When I entered, the girl who asked me what I would like greeted me , but when I advised that I just wanted to buy one cupcake, she said rather rudely, "that's it.. just one cupcake"? To make things worse, the one cupcake was chocolate, but the cake was dry, and when I bit into it, it broke up in my car and went all over the seat and myself! There was also just a little bit of chocolate frosting and though it was good, it only covered a little more than half of the cupcake. No icing, no decorations, no ribbon on the box. etc. So, I paid 2.75 for a cupcake that was old and had 1/2 frosting, and a frosty attitude from one of the workers/owners as well ! To me, I think that is horrible, and will not ever be back ! Easton Bakery is way better; try them instead :) read more

Alex and Kara were awesome with my son. Kara was a delight to work with and very kind to my son who kept asking her a million questions as she and I went over the cake I needed to order. After my consultation, we picked out a few cookies to buy to bring home with us- wow!! The cookies were delicious- fresh, homemade, just like grandma's! We went in again this past weekend to drop off a few decorations that I wanted on my cake and got cupcakes and pumpkin cheesecake. Absolutely amazing cupcakes. I moved to the area around the same time this lovely bakery opened but I haven't had the chance to go until this past weekend. I stay gluten free for health reasons (not a Celiac) but every once in a long awhile I will indulge because nothing beats a gluten filled baked treat. Thankfully I picked thee BEST place to pick my treat. I got 3 cupcakes: Coconut Snowball, Vanilla, and Peanut Butter Cup (for the boyfriend). They were moist, delicious and I could tell they were freshly baked. (I'm sensitive to overly processed/artificial stuff). The icing on top was the right amount of sweetness and it wasn't piled high like most places. I like a good frosting to cake ratio and this was perfect. I only just recently ate them and I already want more. When I went in they had a variety of flavors that I assume change with the day or week. They had Citrus Mimosa, Chocolate, Strawberry Shortcake (I think? It was definitely some sort of berry.) I can't wait to try some more! Maybe after a couple more weeks I'll treat myself again.
