This is quite a large antique and vintage flea market within Chicago, much of it being inside the…read morePlumbers Union Hall on several floors as well as the back lot outdoors. Pros were: - A lot of vendors! - A variety of items - lots of food trucks so you won't be hungry - Legitemately most of the items for sale were antiques and vintage along with some artisans and food merchants (coffee cakes, toffee etc). But not booths of 3D printed stuff. Cons were: - it seemed like whenever we were interested in inquiring about something, the vendor was not at their booth... - Prices were pretty high (especially in comparison to The Pec Thing which I just went to the previous weekend), and not every vendor was willing to dicker (I have never been to a flea market where this is the case unless an item is marked "Firm") - We arrived at opening and some of the vendors weren't set up yet. It had also rained the night before so a lot of the outside people had put tarps over their merch but items still got wet. Caveat emptor. Overall, it was worth checking out but we only bought one small item. Maybe next time!

This market advertises that they have about 200 dealers, and that it's a "destination". Hmmmm…read more.. On the plus side, if you're into vintage clothing (everything from band tshirts to vintage designer) you will love it. Guessing 50%+ of the dealers were fashion related. There were a few MCM places but honestly not much beyond that. I didn't expect to be accosted by window and gutter salesmen but here we are. The building is beautiful, there were a good number of food trucks and places to grab refreshments, and it was well organized. No WAY we're there anything close to 200 dealers - maybe half that? (If we don't count the gutter dudes) Not for me, but if you love vintage fashion, it's probably your jam.

I heard about the Bazaar just a few days prior via Daily Candy, and am totally psyched I stumbled…read moreupon it! As others have stated, it was hot and dimly lit. BUT I love the antiquity of the theater so somehow, for me, those things balanced one another out. I really tried to soak it up as an overall experience. I wish I'd brought more cash since that was the preferred method of payment. However I was very pleased that a few vendors were willing to accept a paypal payment later that day as well as credit cards via iphones. I scored a lovely antique fleur-de-lis pin for a Christmas gift for mom as well as an awesome 1960's turquoise velvet coat in pristine condition for myself! My partner brought home some antique cameras for her collection as well. I agree that sometimes it was hard to know who was in charge of the individual booths, so perhaps an identifying tag or badge would have been helpful. I felt the majority of the prices were appropriate, and was pleased overall by the friendliness and courtesy of folks in what could have been a tense situation with the cozy and hot atmosphere.

There must have been some strange expectations. This was not a bargain hunters paradise but more like having the best of the best all in one place. Some vendors are pricier than others. I got some business cards and intend to visit their full collections. I agree the lighting was terrible. I think even the Congress personnel were surprised what a power suck hundreds of hundred watt bulbs can be. Next time - FLORESCENTS I enjoyed watching the chaos with a cocktail from the perimeter. The rake of the floor was not that bad. I bet I can guess which booths had trouble keeping their stuff vertical. The makeshift rack your boyfriend made hoping you would clean out your closet wasn't sturdy enough for all of those dresses. However, I appreciate that entrepreneurial spirit. It was a big crowd. The house lights made it really warm and I didn't have a cocktail in my hand before the first purchase was made. We all had our challenges. The worst was the lady pushing her baby - slowly - through the crowd in this over sized pram. This event is better for strapping the baby to your body. Hands free. Even better leave it at home with yo' baby daddy. This bazaar is more of an event than a flea market. With bed bugs on the rise I am thankful for this curated gathering of dozens of purveyors of fine vintage goods with a few "garage" sale styled booths tossed in. I found a bargain pair of lamps - see photo!!! Can't wait for the next one. I do hope some of the vendors will use their Iphones to take PayPal payments on the floor - I would have spent that $95 on that bulbous lamp.

It's nice not to have generic pottery barn or CB items like all the Joneses do. Over the last few years I've been able to find cute knick-knacks for the house, tables, and an antique Eastlake piece that I'm using as a bar. This place is a gem and everyone should visit. Places like this are why I prefer to shop local.

Have you ever walked into someone's home and thought to yourself, "Hmmm... Pottery Barn catalog,"…read moreor ditto, Crate and Barrel? I'm not dissing those stores, no, no, no. I love them! They stock the staples of good design. On the other side of the ledger there are antique stores, where there are always surprises, one-of-a-kinds and the smell of old wood. What's not to like? And then there's PRAHA: A rich collection of new and old, unusual pieces of decorative and architectural elements from Europe and the US, from dovetailed wooden boxes to large furniture pieces, linens and treasures of all types, jams, jellies and dip mixes, antique Shanghai Ladies posters, cottage style furnishings, lamps, trunks, European and domestic enamelware... on and on it goes... For me, PRAHA is like the proverbial candy store, and was elevated to Favorite Store status the first time I stepped inside. Much of the store's allure is the result of many shopping expeditions to Praha (Prague), where the owners purchased furniture and treasures as old as the hills, then shipped via crate back to the US. They trek to the best flea markets in the US. They keep their radar humming 24/7; a find is a find, no matter where it's discovered. But it's not just the merchandise. It's Todd and David, shopkeepers and proprietors. They love their store. They insist on expert craftsmanship in the new items they choose to sell, and enjoy musing on the secret history of their antiques. In chatting with Todd (for almost 2 hours on my first visit!) I discovered we share a love of old enamelware, antique tins, small boxes and interesting little containers. (Talk about a candy store!) Some acquisitions never make it to sale. One such item is an old coffee tin that Todd chose to keep for his own kitchen. It's not on display; it is used to store coffee, like it has been forever. He remarked how he always thinks about its mysterious history, the stories that could be told about the family in Praha who used it for generations. "Just think of it!" he said! There are stores filled with merchandise, clerks, and cashiers. And then there is PRAHA, filled with fabulous treasures, not the least of which are its shopkeepers, Todd and David. Czech it out!
