We were greeted with a friendly manor and shown through to the celler door, where we endulged in an extensive wine tasting before choosing our favourite to have with our cheese platter. Very relaxing afternoon was had and we even got a couple of bottles to take home. Will definitely be back and definitely recommend to others.

Combine that with a consistently well stocked fruit and veg cabinet, fresh Kitchenhand Salads and Prepacked Gluten Free meals by Enzos this place is my go-to supermarket if I have had "one of those weekends," and haven't gotten a chance to go to Foodland. It's open late - even at the time of the evening when you're just starting to decide you might want a little bit of late night chocolate or gelati - this place will cater for you. I'm a big fan of their falafels which they get from Abdul's Kitchen but sometimes these are not as fresh as I would like. Even better is that this IGA has some of the friendliest staff around, particularly for check out chicks!

I preferred to do most of my shopping at the Central Markets, as it was vastly cheaper, but they aren't open every day. Which brings me to the big winning point of IGAs, including this one. Opening hours. Despite their slightly higher prices, they manage to compete by being open later at night on weekdays and weekends. Each IGA is slightly different, and this one is quite vastly different to the IGA at the other end of Hutt St. This one is on the up-market side, stocking a wide range of gourmet products. The City East deli stocks a range of cakes, pastas, salads, quiches and antipasto. In the fridges you can pick up pre-made meals from a range of local producers. I used to keep my eye on the discount fridge, where deli products went to die. The fruit and veg section isn't awful, but pricier than most. There is a rudimentary few aisles of basic home needs like toilet paper and light bulbs. Next to the regular tinned veg and pasta section is a little stand with fancier Italian products - nice sauces and egg pastas. In the icecream freezer you'll find the Maggie Beer range. Not a bad supermarket all round, and I'm sure it hits the target market of young professionals or wealthier types living in the city.

The main attraction once you get past the coffee is the pastries and baked goods! Having a connection to dough in the market clearly sets it up well to cater with such goods. Many different selections are on offer and since they are all delicious, it is merely a matter of how classy one wishes to feel. An Italian style croissant with a vanilla custard centre may be a substantial breakfast or if wanting a light morning tea, the various tarts on offer are all worth a good old Aussie shake of the sauce bottle.

This event…read moreis becoming more and more popular, and a large number of cellar doors are opening both unticketed and ticketed events to the public to showcase just how good it is to sit around a fire with a tasty glass of red wine and enjoy some downtime in the hills. Nepenthe was pumping on this particular day. The shed was full of willing punters, who were incidentally also trying to stay warm out of the rain (this particular day was wet. As in, non-stop showers all afternoon wet) but the cellar door was also accessible for those of us who were a little more tame in their celebrations. The wines are really good. The sauvignon blanc, the shiraz and the cabernet all have their own charms, at a reasonable price too. They had TacoCat the food van in attendance to feed the starving (or just curious) masses, and DJ in tow to keep the party going into the night. The festival is a 2 day affair, and we visited on the Saturday, so they were open until 8pm. Some, if not most, of the wineries close around 5pm. On previous visits, we have really enjoyed the sunshine on the hill by the tree. The view is to die for. You can see clear out to Balhannah/Woodside and beyond. Once you settle in to your first glass of wine and take a deep whiff of the grass under your toes, you will want to stay a while.

With a huge range of fresh frozen seafood from international and national waters and a great selection of whole fish, fillets and marinara mixes we always come here to do our fish shopping. The staff are incredibly helpful and will take the time to find the best piece of fish for you (as well as recommend serving sizes if you are entertaining). Product sells out quickly on Saturdays so it is worth getting in early for the best cuts. However, if you go 1 hour before close all fillets are normally half price! I love that most of the fresh fish is sourced from SA (where they can) and the prices are so reasonable and often better than your supermarket stock. If you're doing some last minute entertaining then this is the place to go, with a range of dips, crackers, seasonings and even lemons in store to add to the perfect Saturday dinner!

These days it's a world apart, in fact strolling through the store just before Christmas I'd have to say it's one of the better seafood stores in Adelaide now - a tremendous range of fresh and snap frozen fish and seafood, and some truly beautiful prawns. Plenty of staff were on hand, partly due to the proximity to Christmas, I imagine, but they've worked out a good flowthrough for the store - and have all the associated extra's you're likely to need to prepare the produce - garlic, ginger, spices, oils, sauces, coatings abound as you approach the row of checkouts. Parking is good - for the silly season long weekends of Christmas & Easter it gets a little hectic, but otherwise there's plenty of space in the car park, even at it's busiest on Saturday mornings.

The venue, perched high in the Lenswood Hills, boasts stunning views overlooking the Pike & Joyce vineyards. Visitors can taste and buy the premium Pike & Joyce wines, under the watchful eye of the Pikes Wines winemakers Neil Pike and Steve Baraglia. A sumptuous offering of food is available Fri-Sun by in house caterers, Stuart Oldfield's Hand Made Catering. Platters and Cheese Plates are available during all opening hours. Functions of up to 120 people can be booked. This is a must see destination. I loved the gnocchi with a Pinot Noir by try the Gruner Veltliner, a native Austrian wine variety which is finding its home in the Adelaide Hills.

Beautiful cured and salted meats, plus some insanly high quality cuts of wagu and some Duck in there for good measure. So many choices, what to do?! Simple, get the ham! Not just any ham of course, the Serano Ham and Parma Ham are the only choices you need to consider. MEAT CANDY! They also have some great terrines and the closest thing you will find in Adelaide to Head Cheese? Need to ask what it is......then you don't get to know!

Barossa Fine Foods offers a great selection of quality cuts and cured meats…read more Their leg ham is absolutely fantastic as are the various salamis on offer. I have really enjoyed cooking up a rack of lamb from barossa fine foods and their diced lamb makes for a fantastic stew or curry. In addition to the entirely accessible, Barossa stocks some gourmet numbers which are perhaps a bit more risque, such as black pudding/blood saussage, emu posciutto and biltong (south african style dried beef). Try the kangaroo salami, it is really good and because kangaroos don't fart methane, it is good for the planet too.

Happy Mart is one of my favourite Asian grocery stores in Adelaide. It stocks predominantly Korean…read moreproducts, but some Japanese and Chinese staple items (mostly for cooking) are available. In addition to groceries, there are also cooking utensils, soaps and other miscellaneous items imported from Korea. The best thing about Happy Mart is their frozen and refrigerated goods. They have a large range of thinly sliced beef, chicken and pork (and I mean paper thin!) that can't be found at your regular supermarket or butcher. These frozen meats are perfect for Bulgolgi or Japanese hot-pot meals at home, and I can say with confidence that these meats are fresh and delicious. They also have an abundance of frozen foods such as dumplings that are also suitable for vegetarian diets. And, believe it or not, they have an entire fridge dedicated solely to kimchi! As opposed to the more substantial foods, there is also a variety of Korean cup noodles, snack foods and sweets, as well as Korean soft drinks, teas and even rice wines. Best of all, it's dirt cheap! The staff here is always friendly, and sometimes will even throw in some free goodies with your purchase. Another great reason to shop at Happy Mart!
