Do not use this company if you need reliability. I dropped off my item three weeks before I needed it completed and never heard from them. I called twice on my own to check on the status and still received no update. I finally just went to pick it up and took the unfinished item to another engraver. Well, I'm sure I would have more info to provide had I actually gotten any work done by them. Sent an email asking if they can engrave stainless steel wine glasses. Got a reply from Darla Bye that they did laser-etch stainless steel (attached photo). Showed up with my wine glasses ready to drop off, then was told by the lady (didn't get her name) that they couldn't engrave stainless steel. Not sure if my "wording" was what was confusing, because if laser engraving vs. laser etching is a completely different thing (I don't know the difference), then it would have been helpful if they would have asked. Don't know where the disconnect is, but a waste of a trip. read more

This review is based strictly on Yelp (somehow) contacting Bye Engraving based on an inquiry I made about getting some metal work done. I had no idea that there was such a thing as an engraving company, and that they have the ability to do some metal work. Bye Engraving responded to my inquiry promptly, and advised that they didn't have the ability to shear as large a sheet of metal as I needed to have sheared. Not only were they exceptionally fast to respond, but also were flexible in their availability to accommodate the work I needed done. I expected the work to take a couple of hours, but they were able to cut the time in half. During that time, I spent time with the guys. Fast and friendly service. I came here as they were recommended by Oregon Rifle Works for engraving my AR-15 lower receiver (NFA Tax Stamp). They knew they NFA requirements needed to complete the engraving task. I walked in (no appointment) and was instantly greeted by a nice woman. I asked for Jim (the owner) as advised by ORW. They were able to service my request while I waited just a few minutes. Would have given 5* but after checking out this forum post it seems I've paid more than what they normally charge ($30-$40). I paid $50 no questions asked. Maybe my fault for not asking the price before getting the work done as I didn't see any type of price chart around for the work I requested. Guess it could've been worse as they already performed the work. Save your money and your investment. Bye engraving botched a job severely on my newly registered SBR lower, misspelling my name costing me $600 dollars including tax stamp, wrecking my discontinued Noveske Lower which cost around $380 dollars, my wasted tax stamp and after they messed up the job they still charged me for it! These people are the worst kind, they are nice to you up front, but will deliberately destroy your item being worked on. We started off well, the engraver, he didn't give me a name, stated that he is the owner and has been doing engraving for 3 generations, started a lot of small talk. He seemed alright at first, but I felt very uncomfortable the whole time. We discussed the job, I told him the centering and font, he didn't bother to ask, I had to stop him from starting the engraving, I had the feeling that he was very careless at first. First off he didnt have the bit in the engraver, did not bother to check and started the drill, marring my lower receiver with a silver circle around the area he was going to work at. I let it go, although it did bother me. Then he started to engrave the lower, in an incorrect position. I had to correct him although we discussed it previously. He finally started work, placing the first two letters correct. Then he misspells the next letter, voiding my ATF form I just received. I stopped him and he said he could fix it. At this point I felt like it was more than incompetence and he was doing this purposely. The whole time we talked from that point on, he seemed annoyed yet stayed cordial. Throughout the rest of the job he seemed annoyed that I just lost $600 even though I was silent and just sitting there, not being able to see the work as he covered it with his arms at that point. At the end of the job he still charged me for it, annoyed that I was looking at the engraving, and said he was busy and had things to do. He did offer to cut out the area, or charge me half price. Wow thanks. On a side not the receptionist seemed friendly. I believe he is a racist, I was very friendly and polite, I did nothing to offend him. I felt he made these mistakes on purpose, and I was confirmed of that after he messed up the job and treated me in the way that he did. No remorse or apology, very close to kicking me out, just a very shady individual who acts differently from the way he talks. He will botch the job on purpose for whatever reason he has with you and I feel he ripped me off. Please be aware, you wont have to waste your money on such a terrible person and business. read more

Had my SBR engraved today by Jim. What a great guy. Jim had so many cool stories. He is a 3rd generation engraver and it shows. Professional, proficient and knowledgeable. I was lucky enough to converse with him and hear some of his stories while he was engraving my item. It was cool to learn about the old airplane steering wheels they used to engrave. Bye has some serious history in the engraving business. I highly recommend them for your engraving needs. I've had NFA items engraved in the past but this was by far the most professional and personal experience I've had. I was blessed with the opportunity to sit 5 feet away from Jim while conversing and watching him do his work. Great prices, great guy, 5 stars all around!! read more

Unfortunately i gave BYE Engraving several times to redeem themselves, mainly because they were close to the office, but they screwed up every job I gave them, and never met a deadline. Several items came back with spelling errors and some engraved items were unpresentable but instead of pointing out the flaws they just handed them to me in an envelope and I guess hoped i wouldn't notice. I gave them one star because they at least refunded me some of my money. read more

We called around to other engravers and they were the only ones who were able to do what we were asking - and at a great price! I have to agree with the first reviewer. The workmanship is sub-par and the customer service is non-existant. After placing an order, they never let me know if it's received, or when the work is complete. It is on me to call to find out where they are in the process. It's an odd way of doing business. Just the details are always missed too. for instance I just picked up a nameplate that goes onto a plaque that they created for us. there are little screws to add the nameplate, but they forgot to put the holes in for the screws. Of course I didn't notice until I was back at the office. I'm on the hunt for a better company. read more
