I signed my daughter up for the BYU gymnastics camp for a week and I was extremely disappointed. The first day warm ups were at least 45 minutes and a complete waste of time. On the website when I signed up they specifically stated, "make sure your gymnast can practice for 3 hours!!" Out of the three hours my gymnast danced and jumped for 1 hour and 15 minutes, practiced for an hour, spent 30 minutes of warm up, (she practically was just sitting), then played a game and ate popsicles outside. I'm simply disappointed because the waste of money and effort I spent to get her into this camp was thrown away because of the lack of effort. This is a great camp for 6-8 year olds. Anyone older than that is going to be bored. read more

I was visiting the campus to have a rest in the courtyard. The BYU campus security said I can not lay down and rest on the grass (like i've done before after getting some ice cream.) BYU won't get a cent of my money, because of how terrible the campus security treated me. They don't believe in God, just looking like they do and acting high and mighty while they take your money. BYU will always have a piece of my heart. There's just something about this place--clean, peaceful, and buzzing with a kind of quiet ambition. Walking across campus, with the mountains towering in the background and the smell of freshly cut grass or melting snow depending on the season, it's like you're in a living postcard. The professors here actually care. You're not just a name on a roster--you're someone they expect great things from. And say what you will about the Honor Code, but there's a kind of clarity and focus that comes from being surrounded by people who are trying to live their values. Also, shout-out to the Harold B. Lee library. That thing is a fortress of productivity. I've never been more academically dialed-in than I was on the 5th floor during finals week with a Cookies N Cream chocolate milk from the Creamery in one hand and a stack of flashcards in the other. And then there's the people. You come for the degree, but stay for the lifelong friends, hallway chats, devotional takeaways, and yes--those divine CougarTails on game day. BYU shaped me. Strictly speaking, the BYU Men's baseball coaches are terrible. They do the exact same thing in every game and lose miserably most of the time. How about putting in your good pitchers? They have pitchers who strike out more than the others and it's almost like they refuse to play them. Maybe the coaches have bet against the team winning? I can't think of another reason they would willfully run this team into the ground. The players aren't terrible and they could probably win more if the coaches weren't so prideful. Learn from your many, many mistakes, humble yourselves and put in the good pitchers for a change. It's sad to watch such incapable coaches continue to ruin this team, game after disappointing game. How embarrassing for these poor guys to be a part of this team and be at the whim of some really incompetent coaches. read more

Despite not being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I knew I had to make a trip to Brigham Young University while in Utah because of my deep, abiding interest in Mormon culture (and profound love of Provo's Most Eligible). Here are my thoughts: - My husband and I scheduled a golf cart tour which we highly recommend, particularly because we were visiting on a 96-degree July day. Our student guide was clearly mystified as to why two Boston-based non-members were touring the campus, but was very gracious and knowledgeable. - If you're visiting BYU primarily as a tourist site, I'd suggest checking out the amazing free art museum, enjoying some delicious ice cream at the Creamery, and going bowling at the student center. I have to say, I also found the BYU Store absolutely mesmerizing. Where else can you find missionary action figures and Brick'Em Young temple building sets? - My advice to any non-member visitors: please be mindful about what you wear while on the campus. Out of consideration to Mormon modesty standards, I made a point of wearing a blouse with capped sleeves and long pants, but if I could go back in time, I would without a doubt wear a dress or skirt. Perhaps this is less true during the academic year when there are more students on campus, but when I visited in the summertime, I didn't observe a single woman in pants the entire day. I definitely stuck out like a sore thumb. A visit to BYU would not be everyone's cup of tea. However, I found this to be one of the most memorable days of my trip to Utah! read more

I completed my undergrad at BYU in April 2020. I have mixed feelings about the school that are divided below. THE GOOD --Quality education for cheap: especially if you're LDS, you're not going to find another school with as many top-50 programs in the country for a community college price. --Beautiful campus: tucked right against the base of the mountains, there are spectacular views on the main campus and at sporting venues --Close to outdoor recreation: lots of hiking and biking trails in the area, Sundance Resort is 20 minutes away for skiing, and the university offers tennis courts and fields for outdoor recreation and intramural activities --Library: huge selection of books and research materials, along with multiple computer labs and access to Adobe Creative Suite applications, able to check out computer, photo, and videography equipment for free as a student THE BAD --Culture: perhaps it was just my experience with the business school, but I felt that all of the pre-requisite and GE classes were hyper competitive; while I didn't meet a lot of "holier-than-thou" students, the basic white girl and Provo bro stereotypes here are real--Provo and Orem are two of the least diverse (and most white) cities in America; furthermore, the LGBQT+ community is not well-accepted or defended unfortunately, due to the conservative and religious beliefs of many students --Honor Code: while I'm not against a code of conduct (most universities have one to prevent cheating and inappropriate behavior), I believe BYU's Honor Code takes it too far; guys who aren't clean-shaven can't participate in intramural activities or take tests in the testing center before shaving; ladies are discouraged from wearing leggings around campus and aren't allowed to wear spandex shorts to the gym --Pressure: similar to culture, I feel like the religious upbringings of many students create a pressure for students to conform to a certain image of how a BYU student should behave: get good grades and get married; to my knowledge, all students must take 10 religion credits, which doesn't seem fair to either those in or outside the LDS faith if they are not interested Overall, I met some great friends at BYU, felt like I got a quality education, and had a blast working for the athletic marketing department. I also felt a crushing pressure to perform at high levels at all times and that I was sometimes being judged by other students and faculty. Though I wouldn't change my time at BYU, I got out of Provo and the culture surrounding the school as quickly as possible, and have looked elsewhere for my graduate studies. read more

Just send your mail to BYU, Provo, UT - no need for anymore address. Every mailman in the state knows where this large campus is located! This school is far more than an online, make-up, adult education resource. If you can overlook the immense pride that the town has for their school and sports teams and the fact that it is very focused on the Latter Day Saints (Mormon) church, this is really one of the better universities in our country. And you do NOT have to be Mormon to attend school here. What you do need is patience and tolerance for others viewpoints. Education comes first, but a little religion will be thrown in to the mix. Just say "thanks, but no" and you will get a wonderful education without the choir. The campus is beautiful, summer and winter. If you come here be sure to bring your skis. It is just a short distance to many major ski areas in the winter and spectacular mountain hiking in the summer. I have a friend who is a tenured professor here who could teach the socks off a mouse. If you are looking for a school to attend for you or your little ones, this is definitely a campus you should look at carefully. My son didn't do so hot in World History so I was making him go to summer school which his school charges several hundred dollars for one class so I wasn't too happy. Well I waited too long and the class was full and his counselor sent home booklet from BYU to take the course online. I never knew that this existed but it is really cool. They have tons of courses for high school kids as well as adult education too. They do require that you take the test at a testing center so he can either go to El Camino College Test Center or to a Sylvan Learning Center. Most of the classes will also work toward college credits too. BTW they have some free online courses but most of them are religious classes but not all. read more

The obsession that I haven't been able to do, because of my intense bias toward BYU and my complete understanding of the negative and positive reviews of this place. Really let's think about this... BYU doesn't really care about this or any other review of its University. The Y gonna Y. (I really like that phrasing so you will probably see it a lot in my reviews right now). I don't say this to brag... I paid for 0% of tuition and books.Which likely wouldn't have been possible if tuition cost were higher. The education you receive for the price you pay is amazing. The campus has super updated parts and throw backs to its antiquated past. For the most part it is probably one of the safer campuses in the United States, possibly the world. I know there have been issues but I would suggest the issues at BYU (like not protecting sexual assault victims) are more rare at BYU than at other schools. Is the honor code dumb? A lot of it is. However, I support a private university's right to make their set of rules no matter how much they are based on the rantings of Mr. Wilkinson against the counter culture movement. However, I think people should be able to strive for changes to the honor code. I hate people that say... "Well if you don't like it dont go here." Shut your trap. That logic is so flawed. We should always be encouraging a change to rules or at least an audit of those rules. For example the new honor code immunity for sexual assault victims. That is an awesome new rule, and that wouldn't have happened if people wouldn't have talked about it. It isn't the Harvard of the west. That is a stupid assertion. Simply go to a finals review session and listen to all of the stupid questions so many of the students ask. Don't forget the average age because of mormon missions would seem to imply that students should be more mature than other schools... but man are there a lot of stupid questions that our mature student body ask. PS Stanford is the harvard of the west... and that's okay, BYU is still a good school. There is definitely a silent majority at the school who disagree with a lot of the conservative teachings of the school and you often will find liberal teachers who teach true compassion. The action not the word, and those were some of my favorite teachers.I learned so much about tolerance listening to many students bigoted positions (exception not the rule, 85% of the students are awesome). I really loved my time here and the friends I made, and am proud that I went here. Am I sad how slowly the school is progressing? Absolutely. But ultimately BYU is a far more positive force in the world than it is negative. THE VERDICT: There are a lot of haters out there, and I am not one of them. It is possible to go to BYU and not follow the rules and graduate, it really isn't difficult, you just have to decide what really matters, the ever present spirit vs the letter of the law debate. I highly recommend this school if you are mormon because financially it is a steal. This is easily the longest review I have ever written because I have seen the vitrial from so many people here... and honestly it's unfair, and that is coming from someone who was once expelled from a church school. Got caught with my hand in the cookie jar, and paid the price. But BYU was totally worth it. You aren't mad at BYU you are mad the mormon church, which I understand. I never went to the college here, but toured around. Wow it looked amazing! I came on a Sunday on Memorial Day weekend, and was super quiet and dead. The whole town in Provo was quiet as they closed most stores and restaurants. I would come to this school if I knew of it when I was younger. This campus is gorgeous! read more

I grew up on this campus bowling, playing on the elevators, watching movies and going to games. I also went to college here. We come back often for football and basketball games, plays, state track meets and baseball tournaments, classes, art exhibits, etc. Parking can be a pain. Lots of food choices. Great bookstore. Beautiful theaters and museums. They're gradually renovating all dorms and buildings, but they need more parking lots! Or multi-level lots. read more

This review is for their BYU Online division for high school credited courses. Specifically their French department, and specifically 1st year, second semester high school French. 1) The teacher and TA's for this course are phenomenal and I wish they could actually teach the course the entire time. They are largely the reason this review got 4 stars and not the 2 I'd like to give it. Additionally are the customer service reps when you need to call - really professional, kind, and helpful. 2) The price for the course is outstanding. 3) However, here are major issues we struggled with that made the course extremely and unnecessarily stressful and way more work than it needed to be, even for a challenging course. Online content is shaky. I have lived in France for several years and it is my 2nd college major. While I am not a teacher, I know enough to be a guide/tutor for a new student like my daughter taking a beginning course. The content they teach and then ask students to do exercises on - or even take quizzes on - is not always the same. That is, they don't teach things that they later ask questions on; on many quizzes my daughter had to get an A (90 something % or better) or they wouldn't pass her to the next section! Very unrealistic expectations that inhibited the process and time it took; I would think a "C" or higher would allow them to go to the next unit; they do not teach or recommend students memorize certain basic verb conjugations, yet throw them on quizzes and final- when we asked, they just said they "should" know them. So students taking the online program will have to "guess" which verbs are important and they should memorize? Because of my schooling, I saw what was happening to my daughter and had to buy and do flash cards with her and had to act as her daily teacher, because I knew she would need to know some basics, but even then, they throw in others on quizzes and exercises/work that they *never* asked them to learn - or even how to conjugate verbs - or passé composé basics (which are *essential* to basic French); they are not clear on expectations on the Final, which is two parts (we have since sent screen shots to their online dept to show how deceptive it is/reads); one has to schedule regular appointments with TAs for practices (which is awesome and important), but sometimes the platform was not working or a TA would cancel and then it was a 1 week wait for the next appt (thereby lengthening the course time for my daughter); for major test with the main instructor, there were tech issues and after she got booted out for her appt. was asked to wait two weeks until he was available (and the course wouldn't let her go on without this complete); the teacher ended up accommodating her sooner, which was very kind. The final exam was a disaster, due to the misinformation about the two parts and what they counted for on the grade (also some of the Final's content was not in the course), but my daughter was allowed to take it a second time. The proctor for the final was pretty harsh and rude (not necessarily BYU's responsibility - I'm sure these are contractors); at the end when my daughter had successfully completed everything, we never heard a word. Not an email with a final grade, or an email saying "hey thanks and great work, here is your final grade or here is where you can get your transcript", etc. We waited three weeks and finally reached out and was told to contact customer service for her grade and then order our transcripts. So it has been *NINE MONTHS* of this course, which started last June when my daughter was putting in 3-4 hours a day, 5 days a week all summer with hopes of having most of it complete by end of summer. Turns out I had to basically be her private tutor on the side to work with her and it shouldn't have to be like that. They need videos that are just like a teacher teaching them in class with exercises and quizzes that go with the content taught in addition to regular meetings with TAs and the teacher. Again, I want to stress that the main teacher and TA's are the crown jewels of the BYU online high school French class experience. Overall, we had to work wayyyyy too hard and it consumed us for 9 months. I say "we" because I had to be involved, too, during her coursework to supplement with what they were not teaching in the course but yet were asking of the students. My daughter is exhausted, I am exhausted. We are signing up for the rest of my daughter's high school french classes with BYU because the teacher and the TAs were awesome and honestly, now we know how to work with the dysfunction of the online content, so can better prepare. But what about others who may not have a support at home in a foreign language. How will they fare? An in-person language class is by far better, but given the choices for my daughter to finish French, we will continue with BYU. Hope this helps someone read more

If I've ever written one, this is it: a loaded review. Maybe you know, maybe you don't, but leaving behind family legacies, as in abandoning them, can be difficult, as it has been for me. I grew up watching BYU sports...or rather watching people watch BYU sports. My family bleeds blue if anyone ever did; we're a multi-generational group of Cougars. Well, I'm not a Cougar, but my family past and present are -- probably future, too. So, I've got baggage. And, being a church owned and operated educational institution, it's really hard to separate opinions about the faith from the school (or maybe I shouldn't try to). What to do? I'm going to give it my best shot. I actually don't know how I'll rate them yet. I attended BYU for 3 semesters and 2 sessions (I think that's what we called the spring and summer), equivalent to 4 semesters, through 2009-2010. I left because I would no longer support the honor code, as it conflicted with some of my core personal values. I'll just say it now: I would not encourage any young adult to attend this institution. I feel that it denies half of what I believe the educational experience should be: one part academics, one part self discovery. They've got academics down, but are pretty great at restricting self discovery. How? I'll explain more. In my experience, which I do not think to be unique (I know I'm not alone, and I'm pretty sure we're not few), BYU was a "home away from home" in that while mommy and daddy weren't there, "big brother" certainly was, and his rules were just as strict, if not stricter. I feel that to grow one needs freedom to move. BYU's honor code (religious moral code) denies many that space, through fear of punishment. When your education, namely the academic credits you have earned to a point, is placed on the line, many will not risk engaging in new experiences they would otherwise explore. But they agreed to the honor code, you say? Well, that's true, but that's the problem: I don't think asking entering, naive freshmen (or really anyone who has yet to really live and learn on their own) to agree to rules just like mom's and dad's ("which I've always followed," I thought) is ethical. As I stated previously, I feel that self discovery constitutes half the experience, and the freedom to explore is essential to that. Of course, there are exceptions (youth who "have found themselves" already, converts to the church, and people of other religious backgrounds among others, may not encounter this experience) and I respect that, but my time at BYU caused me great mental harm because I was naive and didn't know what I would find within myself. So, no, I wouldn't encourage any young person to attend. While there was never much of a culture of "witch hunting" it was still something to fear, as a call from the honor code office could mean an end and loss of your hard work. Still, there are plenty of students who thrive in counter culture groups at BYU, or even just underground groups, be it atheists, feminists, queers or pot heads, so there are certainly pockets of freedom, but the reign of the Honor Code office isn't escaped until one transfers or has their diploma in hand. I realize this review so far has been exclusively negative, but I wanted to develop the feelings that I have for this University articulately. There are many great things about BYU. The academic programs are superb. BYU really does provide excellent quality of education. I was challenged and grew in my academic pursuits while there. Some of my most challenging classes were also taken there, as were some of my favorites. BYU also has some great people. I also found excellent open minded professors...among many close minded (scarily so) professors. I met some wonderful friends (often through underground groups), that I value. I didn't engage much with "Molly Mormon or Peter Priesthood," and never have in my life, BYU being no exception. There are often great events, both ongoing (annual, biannual, monthly....weekly etc.). I enjoyed the multi-cultural events, like Fiesta; the dance events, like Dancesport and salsa club; the film events, like the International Cinema (though censored); and the live theater series. I'm not interested in sports, but there's lots of that, too, as well as multiple social groups. The campus is very much alive. I think the campus is beautiful, some areas and buildings more than others. The art museum is a great asset to the community. So much of what is available on campus is also made to the community, which I think is wonderful. Provo wouldn't be the same were it not for BYU, and I think that is true for a lot of the good in Provo. Now, to rate. I'm conflicted. I think the academics are 5 star, as is campus activity. But the ethics of the university are bottomed out, as I've explained here. I want to give 2.5, but alas, I'm going to round down in this case, partially because there are far too many five stars. read more

For the price, BYU offers a fantastic undergraduate education. But overall, I'd say the education is just so-so. It's not very prestigious, generally won't stand out to employers or grad schools, and (in my opinion) over-enrolls. I spent 3 years at BYU ('09-'12) and will be returning soon to complete my degree. The school is exceptional in re-admitting returning students. Classes are, for the most part, very large. Expect General Education classes to have hundreds of students per section. It's very difficult to establish a relationship with your professor (or TA) or get personalized help. There are tutors available for GE's, but they are assigned to their overall departments and aren't very familiar with course requirements or professors' styles. Major classes are better-sized, but it still takes work to develop a relationship with a professor. The biggest issue with BYU's educational system is the way in which courses are organized. Courses within GE requirements essentially double up as pre-requisites for majors. So if you're taking a GE, you'd be best off knowing what you're going to major in. The problem is when you don't know what you'd like to major in or when you need to change your major. Chances are that you'll need to take another course within the GE requirement, so you wasted your time (and credits and money) completing that GE for the first time. This means that when you change your major, you really are starting from square one. This doesn't help BYU's dismal rate of getting students graduated within 4 years. Yes, that statistic is mostly marred by students going on missions, but I've found that it's more of an exception than a standard that students graduate after 8 semesters' worth of classes. The atmosphere is preppy, uplifting, and quite homogenous. Yes, there is an honor code. If you're somebody that runs more in a counter-culture or values diversity and self-expression, you can find your (small) niche at BYU but probably won't be as happy as you would be at another school. There is definitely a spirit of virtue and spiritual cleanliness here, which definitely isn't for everybody. I personally loved it. And if you want to feel the Holy Ghost, there are limitless ways to fill your spiritual tank. The athletic culture is a lot of fun. Despite not being top contenders, the basketball and football teams garner huge student and community support. Every game is packed. Women's soccer and men's volleyball also have a big fan following. BYU prices student tickets very well. Additionally, intramural sports are a big deal and very competitive. Everybody wants a championship t-shirt, and it makes for a lot of athletic fun. Housing policies are an issue with BYU. Because the school requires that single students live in "approved housing" (apartment complexes within 2 miles of campus that enforce the honor code), it essentially creates a monopoly that drives prices skyward. The intentions are good by the school, but the results of high rent (for Provo) isn't cool. The campus and its facilities are well-kept, the library is spectacular, and the campus is close enough to groceries, gas, the movies, etc. I'm a big-city gal so in my opinion Provo (and SLC) doesn't have nearly enough culture or things to do, but it's not exactly a cow-town, either. If I were a senior in high school and could do it all over, I wouldn't apply to BYU, even though I love the LDS atmosphere. The academics aren't nearly as rigorous as I thought they would be. read more

Did not attend, and don't want to, but know others who have applied, it is interesting to note that one year the people I know, none of the white american girls got in, but anyone who could bring diversification got in. The next year, every single person I know got accepted. I know kids who got in who did'nt have the test scores nor grades and got in, didn't bring any diversication or much else to the table. I know others who didn't have the grades but had everything else. There selection process on who gets in and who dosen't seems to be confusing and not even close to equal across the board; honestly it sounds like there is quite a bit of discrimination, especially when I hear people say I'm going to use the fact that one of my parents is not from America to get a better chance of getting in. I know this is common among many colleges, but for some reason, BYU came across as being different, like they wouldn't be one those schools. I was so wrong! read more

BYU preys on students through a broken system that benefits them. If you pay for Parking online it will not inform you of whether the transaction succeeds or fails. I got a ticket a few weeks ago and assumed it was a mistake because I had paid for graduate level parking a full 2 month earlier. When I called I was informed that it showed that I tried to pay and the transaction failed- there was an actual record of this on their end. After acknowledging that their system doesn't notify you of a a failed transaction, they maintained it was my fault because I didn't go online later on to make sure it went through. (not immediately- because their system doesn't post results quickly I guess I was supposed to set an alarm for the next day or something lol). Flabbergasted, I asked if they go on and check their credit card after visiting McDonald's. One worker had the audacity to claim she checks her bank account every night to make sure her transactions go through lol. The other lady told me that I should go try to get to the bottom of their problem by visiting the OIT office lol (this in response to a catalogue of other graduate students who had experienced the same technical failure the previous semester- which leads me to believe that it probably wasn't my fault that the transaction failed- especially considering I believe I used the card they have saved to their system). In order to appeal the decision I would have to contact the financial center because they automatically withdrew the funds, without my permission, from my account. Then I would have to spend more time through the appeals process. If you appeal the ticket is more expensive if you fail, so I would be gambling. Since it is apparent that they don't think anything is their fault, I said it wasn't worth my time. So, in summary, I spent an hour between three phone calls and a visit to the office, and still got robbed of 45 dollars (in addition to having to pay for a parking pass I had every reason to believe I had paid for.) It is a blatant abuse of a monopolistic parking program to have a faulty system that acts as a tax upon your customers- which they can only find recourse to through a significant time investment and risk of penalty. Lastly, if you want proof of the fact that they are aware of their broken system, visit the multi-page instruction sheet they post online and think people are going to read. Right there at the bottom of an otherwise stupidly obvious process that no one in their right mind would read (a full discourse on how to complete an online transaction lol) they state multiple times that students need to check their bank accounts and their stupidly unintuitive app or website to make sure the transaction they let you believe went through actually did. Sound like a ridiculous loophole purposely left open by a department that benefits from the mistakes it enables? I think so too. read more

BYU really is a great school. It offers high-quality education for relatively low-prices. As a pre-med student, I was surprised by some of the world-class educators here, who have been nationally acclaimed for their research before teaching at the University. On top of that, it has great acceptance rates for Medical and other graduate schools. With a huge class size, it might be hard to get as much individual attention you would get from a smaller university, and not all the professors are world class, but your experience at BYU is what you make it, and there are plenty of amazing opportunities and programs available here. read more

Annual educational conference. Fewer family history and no emergency preparedness options this year. BYU offers a clean campus, good dining options and a wonderful opportunity to purchase religiously inspired art. PARKING is horrible! Plenty of signs telling where you can't park but none saying where you can. Still a good value. read more

As a disclosure I am rating the university in regards to facilities and its surroundings not the quality of the education. The campus is laid out quite nicely and almost all buildings are within a reasonable walking distance from each other. The food court or as they call it on campus the "cougar eat" has a decent array of food options. The chick-fil-a is hands down the most popular option so make sure to go there at off times or you will be standing in a 30 minute line. There are also some nice options for food south of campus with cupbob and slab pizza. There are a few things however that drive me nuts on campus. The wifi is absolutely horrendous. It's very spotty and even in main lecture halls and classrooms you might not be able to connect. You would expect better for what is considered a top tier university. Another gripe that I have are the campus police and parking cops. They are moody and power hungry so watch out. Another big tip is this. AVOID HIGH TRAFFIC BATHROOMS at all costs. The smells that permeates from them will blow your mind away. My tip is to try and find ones that are off the beaten path. read more

I get a really bad taste in my mouth whenever I hear someone say BYU. First off, I am LDS, but I go to school at UVU. My friends invited me to play intramural flag football. So I went to BYU, signed up and payed $25. They called me the next day telling me that I couldn't play because I wasn't in a BYU ward. Why would they take my money and let me sign up if I didn't qualify to play in the first place?? So they won't let me play, no big deal. I go in to get a refund, and they wouldn't refund me my money! I don't know much else about BYU. All I'm saying is that the intramural sport system is a joke and really screwed me over. To me they come off as a dishonest program. All I wanted was my $25 back if you weren't going to let me play. read more

Yes I am pretty bias because I did graduate from this awesome University. The campus is very pretty, clean, and the people their are generally pretty nice. I have been to other campuses around the county and I can't always say the same things about some of them. The tuition is very affordable, especially if you compare it to other universities in the country, and even better if you are LDS. It is a LDS University, but you are not required to be a church members to attend. I graduated with a Bachelor in Public Heath and advanced into Dental School. I would say I highly recommend coming here. I feel the education I received was instrumental to my profession and to who I am today. I can say onething though, BYU was really awesome but, man, was I happy to leave Provo. read more

BYU is a great university! There is a small group of people who are very outspoken about the Honor Code that they agreed to live by in order to attend the university, but these rules make BYU what it is. I rather enjoy the modest dress and clean-cut appearance of the majority of the students who decide to follow the honor code. The university is HARD but this is more advantageous to the graduates than detrimental. To all interested...keep investigating, visit the campus, and develop your own opinion. But the fact remains that you'll get an excellent education for a marvelous deal. read more

Great education--Great cost. You will not find better anywhere. I attended as a regular student and then again later in life. This is what I found. It is true that GE classes can be huge, but they always break into smaller groups with a TA who really cares. Their math lab and writing lab were as important to my education as the classes I took. If willing to get help, anyone can be successful. But make no mistake, this is a serious education. If you want to party and "find yourself" this isn't the place for you. But if you know what you want out of life, enjoy meeting brilliant people with like goals, and know how to work hard, this will be the best experience of you life. The teachers really care about their students. I have built life long friendships with several. That is what makes the education so unique. The open door policy allowed me to explore in more depth topic of interest. I carry their voices in my head. My Shakespeare professor continues to challenge my interpretation of passages and my religious leader's influence continues to change how I approach a religious text. My life is fuller because of the my time there. If you are considering it, take a tour of the campus. If you feel comfortable in the beautiful atmosphere and intense, good kids--join them! read more

Though we appreciate the opportunity to take an independent class through BYU IS, the entire process was unorganized. There is a lack of communication by staff and faculty regarding how to set up classes, schedule tests and communicate. Students are left to search for help via the internet and sometimes learn, but too often are lost. The help center is disconnected and gave incomplete information regarding paying for an exam. Additionally, an exam was scheduled after the end date of the class by a T.A., leading to much confusion and additional cost because the class had to be extended. A qualified Teaching Assistant should know when the class ends. We are in a situation where a student is now at risk for not graduating high school on time because of the disorganization. read more
