The staff were able to communicate efficiently with me as an English speaker, and were kind as they packed my large order while giving recommendations to fit my preferences. I ordered a cherry donut, a classic eclair, cream bun, quiche with ham, and a chocolate rum ball all for a mere nine euros. As you can tell, I had a major sweet tooth, but they had a phenomenal selection of savory options such as croissants, dinner rolls, brioche, baguettes and loaves packed onto the shelves. Each of my treats were extraordinarily delicious! The fluffy donut and tart, homemade jam were surreal...the chocolate ball was creamy and milk chocolatey followed by a warm, rum aftertaste and I enjoyed the bite of the chocolate sprinkles! The highlight for me was certainly the large cream bun! Sandwiches between two delicate pate choux "buns" was a mountain of fresh whipped cream that was soft and only slightly sweet. It's a very simple place and doesn't look like much, but who cares about looks when the food is this good? The semmeln are perfect and the round mehrkornbrot is absolutely delicious. In fact, everything I tried there was great. Unfortunately, these days I live too far away to go there. But if you live in Prenzlauer Berg, you should try to visit this bakery at least once. I've never had better bread or rolls anywhere in Germany. Highly recommended.

Very nice, traditional German bakery, which is still a family business…read more Here you can really taste all kinds of German bread. They also have nice cakes and cookies. The plum cake is my favorite. And I love to get some cookies to have with tea. The success of Krautzig is specially impressive considering it is surrounded by chain bakeries and "Bio-Läden" (organic grocery stores). I hope they continue with their business for many more decades!

The food here is mostly good. Some sandwiches and desserts taste a little dry, but other times it's…read morenot. But still -- it's inconsistent. For a self-service place, however, the service is pretty slow. I've often waited in line for roughly 10 minutes or so, which feels like eternity for a bakery. I live in the neighborhood so I sometimes choose to go back out of convenience, but if I didn't live here, I wouldn't.
