After a month long process of calling landscaping companies (all highly rated on Yelp) which resulted in many unreturned calls and one declined offer (from a company that took 2 weeks to get back to me), I was lucky enough to be given the business card for Martinez Landscaping. This is why I feel so compelled to write this glowing review for Martinez Landscaping. You won't find him/them in the yellow pages. They are somewhat of a hidden gem in my view. I was in the process of selling my house and needed help cleaning up 2 years of neglect in my patio/garden area. It literally looked like an untamed jungle until Abad (the owner) and his workers came to my house. He came to my house, gave me an on the spot offer ($70 for 1 hour worth of work) and got to work right then and there. You could not hope to accomplish as much on your own in several hours as these 3 guys accomplish in one hour. It's actually quite amazing. I actually felt like I owed them more than I paid (that's rare with me). As a bonus, they weeded a small area on my neighbor's side just to be nice. And the owner himself is a genuinely nice, helpful guy. He was telling me he took on a massive cleaning project on a large yard that had been untouched for 10 years. So apparently there is no project that is too much trouble for him and his crew. Another helpful thing I learned from him was that you don't have to be present at home for him to do the work (a godsend for a busy single person like myself).

We scheduled a date for the work and got a quote. I went to the property the day the renters were moving out and discovered the landscapers there a day ahead of schedule. They were completely in the way of the tenants moving out. I asked them leave & come back as scheduled and explained why. The next day they refused to come back & claimed that I had yelled at them. It was completely rude and unprofessional on their part. They should have taken responsibility for their mistake and apologized to me. Instead, they will lose a lot of potential business as a result.

I ask my retired uncle…read morewho built homes who he used as a roofer and he told me he used Cogent for years and was always happy. I called them up and got on their list. Yes, they have a long waiting list, but it's worth the wait. They finally came out this week and as with everything else in my life, the roof was worse than anticipated. I assumed as much because that's the way things work with me. They ended up having to take off all the sheeting, vents, the works! The roof was put together with 3/8" ply from 40+ years ago. They replaced all that out with much thicker stuff; I think it was 1/2" or even 5/8"; not sure. The eves don't sag any more and I can't count the rafters from standing outside anymore as the roof is flat now. It only took them about 1/2 day longer than anticipated too. These are some hard working men!!! I would have died on the first day up on that roof but they just kept going. This is one of these rare times in life when you hire someone to do something and they do better than you think. That is pretty rare now days. If you need a roof, give Cogent a call.
