I voiced my concerns and no one listens. they are discharging my daughter who had major spine surgery without know how she's going to feel without certain meds etc, I have told them I'm not comfortable with her leaving today, doesn't matter. I was told to call a number or go to the er if need be. that's awesome! Not to mention her first follow up is virtual! Thats 100% quality care right there. smh! Bro everyone was so nice. Staff would always check in to make sure you were okay and they have the cutest therapy dog ever (ily barney). We were given menus for each meal so food was low-key really peak. We actually had one on one therapy with actual therapists (psychiatrists?) Which NEVER happens during my stays at other psychiatric facilities. Activities were interactive for everybody and we had TELEVISION. We could only watch pg things but that is such a step up anyways. We were allowed however many comfort items we needed and parents were allowed to sleep in the same room as child when visiting and were also allowed to bring in food. Overall this hospital was just amazing, but the sole reason I gave this five stars was obviously because of the therapy dog. read more

I'm sorry. But I'm absolutely NOT IMPRESSED! I have been in health care since 1991. I have been an RN since 2006 and a nurse practitioner since 2013. I recommended this hospital for a very intense surgical procedure. I guess I should have stuck with the Children's Hospital at DMC. The day of surgery started off fine. I can't complain about the actual surgery. It was post-op that was absolutely appalling. The pain management was absolutely unacceptable. I work in pain management. It's really not all that difficult. There are different types of pain and different types of management for that pain. They told her to "breathe through it." Pain rated as a 10/10. Breathe through it? What the hell? They put her on medications for pain. But very little for muscle spasm, which was actually the problem. The nurses didn't advocate for her. They treated us like we were exaggerating. A child having so much pain that she's crying her eyes out and having panic attacks being told to breathe through it? They even told us that they "are at capacity and need the bed." Um. I don't give a single bleep about your capacity. This is absolutely not how you treat patients! We had to tell them we would d/c and go straight to the ER. YOU DO NOT DISCHARGE ANYONE WITHOUT ADEQUATELY CONTROLLING THEIR PAIN! I am absolutely embarrassed and ashamed. No wonder people don't trust health care! Do better!! read more

The C.S. Motts hospital in Ann Arbor, MI has had my soon to be 7-month-old daughter since they took her out via c-section 2 months early due to my daughter has a CHD called Truncus Arteriosus. During her stay they have shown very poor communications skills. Not just with my wife and me, but with communication between the different departments taking care of our daughter. Let alone they have shown very strong patient's rights violations from day one. They violate parental rights from jump street. The hospital banned me for standing up for my wife's rights so I can't even see my daughter. Then the entire time they have been treating my daughter as a guinea pig by stopping and starting her feeds constantly. Especially after they put in a g-tube in for her feeds. They want to push a lot of feed into her belly within a small-time frame. Instead of using common sense and considering that her stomach can't handle that with all that stopping and restarting of feeds. Plus, they just threatened calling CPS if we don't bring her back down there for further treatments. Even though they have shown lack of proper care for our daughter. There are other hospitals and clinics that handle my daughter's conditions. This hospital doesn't even deserve one star. Let alone they caused our daughter's vocal cords to be paralyzed. read more

0 for 3 This is my third time bringing one of my kids here and it gets worse each time. I have been here for 9 hours and the place is not even busy. Did not see a doctor the entire time there, but saw a PA for a brief minute, so that was nice I could have got that much quicker at an urgent care. There was a few nice staff members but will never be back here based on the trauma they caused my daughter. This place should be ashamed to consider themselves a children's specialty hospital. Wish I could give 0 stars and that would still be too much. Almost forgot just got the bill and I guess the charge for the doctor was for someone in a white coat who I saw walk past the room but never step foot or communicate with us, but hey this is why health insurance is so expensive when these facilities charge whatever they want. Here is my recent experience from No. 1 hospital in Michigan. Watch out... if they don't provide you update during the surgery, DO NOT try to ask for update since they will provide false info and then if you make any other inquiries, they will call the security and will have you removed. Here is the fact: My wife was scheduled for a procedure at the 4th floor at Mott Hospital. I was required by their protocol to be present and wait while she is there. After pre-op, I was asked to wait in the waiting area. Expectation was to have updates and status during each stage... operation/recovery/etc... (the procedure and recovery was estimated to be max of 2 hours). No info and or update was provided for over 3 hours. After several inquiry and getting too many conflicting information, an OR-nurse came and said my wife has refused my presence in the recovery room. I questioned her statement and told her this can not be true and once I go back I will verify this. After they called me to the recovery room, it turned out that statement was false!!! Once I asked for an explanation, the response was if i ask anything more they will call security to remove me... so I just sat there saying nothing while two 6+feet security guys were pacing around and creating a fear/toxic atmosphere... So NO QUESTIONS are allowed there and they cover up whatever they were doing there and if one asks a question, they will face the treat of being removed..... the expectation from No. 1 Hospital in Michigan is getting updates at every stage as well full transparency which it does NOT exist here. So be aware of what to expect if you are scheduled for a surgery or procedure at this hospital. read more

They have provided outstanding care for my granddaughter. They are excellent at what they do while being professional, kind, informative and compassionate at the same time. I highly recommend them. They have some of the best doctors and nurses around. Sometimes you have to drive for outstanding healthcare and they are every bit of worth it for the drive. I'm so glad I switch to this hospital from Beaumont. They made to sure to give me more info and make sure I understood everything that was happening while I was pregnant. They end up finding a vsd as the reason why my baby heart rate kept dropping and made sure I had a smooth delivery. Beaumont send me home even though they suspected something wrong. I was told I could schedule a echo but they couldn't fit me in unto a month later. So I schedule one the next day at Mott children's hospital. The crazy part was once my doctor at Beaumont found out I went to Mott to find out why the baby heart rate dropped, she suggested I continue my care there. read more

Duke had a minor operation (nothing serious) today and these people, everyone from desk clerk to nurse to door guy to janitor to anesthesiologists to surgeon, were nothing but professional, caring, and compassionate toward my son and I. I couldn't have asked for a more pleasant experience while my nerves were all over the place worried about my sons wellbeing, especially during these crazy times we're in. You made me comfortable, but more importantly you made my 2 yr old crazy-man toddler comfortable. Top notch place. P.S. Duke is back to his normal ridiculous self. read more

My daughter-in-law has been having a problem with swallowing, coughing, etc.. and her doctor told her it was asthma. Well, this doctor moved out of state and my daughter-in-law was forced to find another doctor. Well, this doctor didn't just skirt the problem onto something else like asthma - he wanted to find out exactly what was causing the problem. Sent her in for a simple x-ray and voile' the radiologist found a heart defect from when she was born. Both my son and his wife are nurses and when this doctor informed them that she will need to have heart surgery they went looking for the best of the best. So, since my son works with heart patients in a hospital he was talking to one of the cardiologists there and the doctor had said if it were him or his wife he would definitely go to a certain Cardiologist out of U of M Ann Arbor. So, my son called the office of this cardiologist and they wanted him to wait a couple of months for an initial appointment. You don't know my son - he called every day to see if there were any cancellations and the 3rd day he was successful. My son and his wife had all the paperwork and x-rays and went to U of M to visit the cardiologist - the best! This cardiologist was very nice and told them that he had never performed this type of surgery - this type of surgery is done by a pediatric cardiologist since it is usually found shortly after birth! So he gave them a referral to see the best pediatric cardiologist! This new pediatric cardiologist was quite frank with them - this is very rare for an adult and she had only performed surgery such as this on one other adult in her career. Finally to get to Motts Childrens Hospital in Ann Arbor - she had the surgery, had to go into ICU for 2 days where they had one nurse specifically with her at all times. Then after the 2 days she went down one floor and on this floor for every 2 patients there was one nurse devoted to them. The care she got from MCH was impeccable! One night she was there and whatever college team at U of M was playing that day came in and visited all the patients - remember this is a Children's Hospital! They gave my daughter-in-law balloons for her kids, one blue and yellow hat with signatures for her son and one pink hat with their signatures on it for my granddaughter! All I can say is this is THE BEST OF THE BEST hospitals for children in Michigan! read more

Have gone there twice about 6 months apart to the emergency room, both times they told me I was fine and sent me home, severe chest pain, dizziness, not being able to walk etc. is not fine, the nurse also was interacting with my service dog. I have never been to a hospital that had every employee seem so happy to be there. This place is amazing, seriously. We just switched to this hospital for a Cleft Team for my son and they discovered he would need an umbilical hernia removal. So we set the appt and the day of surgery was honestly the best, well organized day we've experienced (this would make surgery #7. the other 6 were with a different team, different hospitals). This was our first full experience of this hospital (other than typical appts). Let me start by saying that every person in the Pediatric Surgery Unit was so compassionate and really tried everything they could to make him feel comfortable. Right as they were about to lead him to the OR, they offered me to go along for the anesthesia part so he wouldn't feel so scared. I have NEVER been offered this before at the other hospitals we've had operations done at. My son felt so at ease with these PROFESSIONALS! The anesthesiologist even lead him to the OR in a trail of bubbles! I cant even begin to explain how full they all made my heart feel. These people really care about your children. Long story short, I don't think I will ever go to another hospital ever again. This place has a forever spot in my heart just because of the professionalism and true compassion they have for every child that comes in those doors. You guys are great, keep doing everything you're doing! read more

About a month ago my son had to have open heart surgery. And i want to personally thank everyone that works at the children's hospital. Everyone from the surgeons to the nurses to the cafeteria workers to the custodians to the parking lot attendants were all amazing. I seriously have never called a hospital about my year and half year old child and have had such a disappointment as I did with the way this hospital gave me responses the way they just did, with our country at a downward spiral with this damn virus, I'm explaining my sons symptoms and all he can tell me is I don't know what to tell you I can't give you advice or opinion but if You want to bring him in you can???????!!!! If I had kids, I would never leave Ann Arbor. Kris and I host exchange students regularly. In September we had a terrifying experience with the student we were hosting at the time. Sudden onset of some stroke-like symptoms. When I got her to UM the security guard told me I could take her to Mott and that it would be better than the traditional hospital (less scary, more comfortable). I am forever indebted to him. And to EVERY SINGLE PERSON we came across while there. No joke. After the initial terror and finally figuring out what was wrong we spent many a morning, afternoon and night there. Her condition required a trip to the ER anytime symptoms came on because it could be a stroke. Yeah, we got to know the staff really, really well. Every nurse, tech, doctor and other staff person was kind, helpful, and seemed to know what we needed before we did. Warm blankets through the night, a charger for a cell phone when we'd been there for hours on end, an endless supply of cold water, a hug, a joke. They are empathic, intuitive, and exactly the type of medical professionals you want taking care of someone important to you. Of special note: our student was very difficult to get blood from. Not because she was scared or flinched, she just had impossible to find/use veins. When we had to go for a CT scan they communicated with upstairs prior to the appointment and made sure they had a team there who specialized in patients who were traditionally tough to get blood from. And every time we went in they took special care to try and make it as easy as possible. That extra care went a long way. Additionally, they were awesome about understanding our need to not only speak to them but to also communicate with her parents (a 6 hour time difference), the organization she was here through (located on the east coast), and they understood that medical terms are tougher to translate. They never rushed her when she had trouble understanding a question... for example, while her English was impeccable kids aren't taught how to discuss pain or sensation with a doctor. Words like "sharp" and "throbbing" don't make sense to them when speaking of pain so she and I would have to also go through different things to make sure she could most accurately describe her condition. No one ever rushed or pressured and they quickly learned how to do it by watching she and I. I remember her being asked, "Is the pain sharp? dull? throbbing?" and her looking at me while I gave examples of the three. The next time we were in, about two weeks later, a completely different team was in, looked up her stuff on the computer and used the terms I had used instead of sharp/dull/throbbing. That's pretty spectacular. Mott is pretty spectacular. read more

Was very disappointed with the autism clinic. How do they expect a child to interact with them when all that they have are broken blocks, a broken car and a spoon. What 2 year old boy wants to play with that. Plus they only do it 1 day at only 1 time, nap time. You can't do an accurate evaluation when a child is overtired and you have broken crap toyS. read more

Based on their Eating Disorders clinic(I weighed 78 pounds going in, left at about 94 pounds at age 17), they are not very educated. Do not get me wrong, I have heard plenty of good things about UofM hospitals, but my personal experience makes me not want to go back. I spent about two months back and forth between the hospital and home. I spent 5 days a week there 7AM-1:30PM (exception of Tuesday when I went in 1PM-7PM), which in all honesty was not good for me at all. You eat two meals at the clinic (which you are forced to eat everything and there is a timer) and the rest of the day includes getting your vitals checked and group therapies. This could ABSOLUTLEY work for a child with anorexia or bulimia but I did not have any of those conditions. I had very bad anxiety which would lead to upset stomach, which would lead to my loss of appetite. At the beginning it felt promising, even the staff told me I would not be there for that long because I actually wanted to gain weight and be healthy. This was not the case. I tried telling all the staff that it was due to my anxiety and they kept telling me they needed to "prove" that, so I was not given medication until weeks after. NO ONE could tell me why I was getting/feeling sick all the time and the only test they did was a pregnancy test(I was not pregnant). They also put me in a group with CHILDREN, the person closest to my age was 14 years old so I could not relate to anyone. I felt like a CHILD and hope no one has to go through what I went through because the only person that kept me alive during that time was my mother, and that says A LOT when you are in a hospital. read more
