Houmas House and Gardens - Great experience

    Houmas House and Gardens

Amazing Tour and Museum Experience…read more Houmas Plantation House is an amazing place to visit. We started our day early and had breakfast first. There's a simple American/New Orleans-style breakfast buffet with eggs, sausage, and grits, available from 8-10 a.m. The plantation opens at 9 a.m., and the first house tour starts at 9:30 a.m. The house tour lasts about an hour. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable. This was my second time taking the tour, and although the guides were different, they shared the same history in their own unique storytelling styles. Both were engaging and easy to follow. Don't forget to tip the tour guides--they do a great job. After the tour, we walked through the gardens in the morning. It's about a 45-minute stroll at a relaxed pace--walk, rest, and enjoy the scenery. Very peaceful. Later, we went to the Carriage House Restaurant, which has amazing food. The bar is also great--try the Houmas signature drinks, they're delicious. You can enjoy your drink inside or outside, then walk around more or relax. If one person wants to do everything--breakfast, museum and house tour, lunch at the Carriage House, and buy a few souvenirs--expect to spend around $150 or so. Overall, it was a great, peaceful experience, and I highly recommend it.

So glad I found this hotel! I'm super picky when it comes to staying somewhere other than my home…read more I've, unfortunately, heard bad things about Baton Rouge so I chose to stay in Prairieville. My first impression was how clean everything looked. Not only did it feel clean but it also smelt clean. The staff was very friendly, attentive and quick to check us in. The room was spacious and very clean as well. Breakfast was the standard hotel breakfast - nothing fancy but everything was properly placed. Hot items were hot and cold items stayed in an accessible fridge. If I'm ever in this area I would definitely stay here again.

When asked if the reservation could be transferred to a different location, I was told no as the locations are independently owned. They had checked a neighboring hotel but they were sold out. That left me with the choice of either enduring cold showers or try to scramble and find another hotel on a Friday night at a higher rate. Financially, the choice was made for me. As I was leaving the next morning, my cooler spill and there was ice and water that I cleaned up with the extra towels. There was housekeeping staff member in the hallway and I told her what had happened. She said that was ok as the floor would be mopped and that anyway it was not her assigned room. When I returned to my room later that evening, my card key didn't work. So I go down to the front desk and am given new cards. I return to the room to find that it had not been cleaned. The wet towels from cleaning up the spill were still piled up on the floor, the beds were not made and trash was still in the room. I return to the desk and informed the gentleman that my room had not been cleaned and that I needed towels. He proceeded to key something in and then said there was no housekeeping staff on site. It took 10 minutes to get towels! To add to that, the window shade didn't work so I woke up each morning to bright sunshine. They offered a 20% discount on the room rate which was an insult to injury. Should they have even stayed open with no hot water and with a breakfast bar with hot cooked items? Sanitation?

First time at any Springhill Suites by Marriott and I must say, I'm pretty impressed. In fact,…read morethis place is fantastic. Check-in was great, fast and went smoothly. Front desk staff was extremely welcoming and friendly. The lobby area is really cool and spacious with lots of seating. There's a bar and a mini market for those late night munchies. I love the decor in this place and each space has its unique charm. There's a business center, exercise room, pool and laundry facility. My room is your standard suite with a small kitchenette. It has a gorgeous desk study area with a partition between it and the bedroom area. The bed is comfy, not too firm and the room is immaculate. From check-in to getting settled, I can tell they take great pride in this hotel's appearance. Breakfast is free and so is the 24/7 complimentary coffee but the craft beers, wines and cocktails are not lol. Overall, I'd definitely recommend coming here. There are plenty of dining options nearby with a KFC right next door. Also, there is a Tanger shopping mall across the highway.

My room was not clean when I arrive. My party and I did not complain. We went to the store and bought bleach and lysol to clean the restroom ourselves. We threw our towels on the floor the next day as we thought the room would be replenished and cleaned the next day by the cleaning service. To our surprise when we returned to our room at midnight Saturday, the room was how we left it Saturday morning at 8:00 am. Moreover, there was no parking. We had to park away from the hotel and carry our things to the room. Furthermore, they could not pull my membership up to give me credit for my stay. Horrible experience. Rather than clean and restock your room like most suites, the staff place your towels on the outside of your door on the floor-yes the floor (see pic).
