We were really nervous about what we had signed up for. Dan helped us to understand her behavior and triggers, and worked with us to train her in important commands. He also taught us how to teach her new commands on our own, and gave us advice on how to read her body language. Michael originally came to us through the vet, because one of our rescues was biting people in the face. We thought we would have to put her down. After working with Michael, she immediately gained confidence and became so eager to please. She is 11 years old now and the best behaved dog anyone could imagine. She is attentive, purposeful, and has never had another incident. Next, Michael helped us prepare our 4 dogs for the birth of our first child. He suggested a baby doll that "cries" to acclimate the dogs and teach them not to get too close. Then, we sent home the hospital shirt to put on the doll and introduce the dogs. They (the dogs) have been my son's protectors since Day One. Michael gave me his time for free over the phone when our kitten was getting itself stuck in trees. I invested heavily in this business in good faith, paying over $17,000 upfront within a 2-to-3-week window. The owner initially honored a 45-day grace period for the next installment due to our upcoming child. However, despite holding my dogs for months, the business completely failed to deliver on the contract, leaving Gus with zero training progress and severe, unaddressed toy aggression.The lack of training is only overshadowed by a shocking incident of gross negligence. While my dogs were in his care, the owner was arrested by law enforcement for a criminal property damage incident (popping tires). I am not writing this to pass judgment on his arrest--given my own life experiences, I understand firsthand that things happen, and people go through difficult situations. Because of that understanding, I put everything aside out of genuine empathy and loyalty. I had literally sent him another $5,000 Zelle payment that exact morning to continue on with my dogs. He was rushed to an emergency vet with a 104-degree fever, severe lip ulcers, and acute respiratory distress. He was officially diagnosed with severe aspiration pneumonia and remains on heavy antibiotics.Following his release, the owner came to my home and verbally agreed to return a fraction of my funds--specifically $2,929--to help cover our immediate rent and medical bills, telling me to "just remind him." I even offered to return this temporary $2,929 buffer later once his business stabilized. However, when I texted him a screenshot of the bill reflecting that exact amount of $2,929 as a reminder, his demeanor flipped. He refused to put anything in writing, deflected by bringing up an irrelevant "training academy" structure, and flatly refused to assist us.Instead of honoring his word, he chose to completely freeze us out and avoid accountability. We were afraid he'd bolt, be too difficult on a leash, climb up a wall or jump out a window...or just be a general pain in the butt. We are used to it (as well as the judgements from perfectly behaved pets and their parents), but we know that not everyone knows how to deal with that sort of thing. Then along come Frank and Lisa and all is a-ok. Highly recommended by the owner of the rescue we adopted Fred from, and parent to two of his own rascally chis (and kitties,too!), we went out of town and out of our way (though pickup and drop off services are available) to do a meet and greet with their family. Fred would be staying with them and we all had to be sure it was a good and safe fit. After a relaxed visit (along with much playtime), and seeing how perfect their home was set up for pups, and how dedicated Frank and Lisa are to all the zoo , we actually felt relieved that we were making the right choice. When we decided to make it official, Frank could not have been more thorough. It was a little like a preschool interview, I imagine! By the end, he and Lisa knew as much about Fred as we did. All fears assuaged. Until I left. Then we were anxious again (would Fred think he was being abandoned? Would he cry like he did when I left for the whole week? Would he try to find us?). Frank must've sensed my nervousness again and I had pictures and texts within an hour of having left him. He also encouraged me to call or text anytime. During our trip, he sent videos and updates regularly. By the second day my husband and I were more worried that Fred wouldn't want to come home. He melted into their family pretty easily. We had such a peace of mind that he was doing well that I didn't have to check nonstop. Franks updates came reliably and consistently, and that was enough for us. When we picked Fred up, he was beyond excited to see us. And his temporary family chatted with us, told us how much they enjoyed him, and seemed to anticipate genuinely missing him. The next day after we had Fred home, Frank even made a follow up to check on Fred. Shoe must be on the other foot, lol. I sent a picture from home and told him that I'm sure he'd see Fred again soon.
