I presume they're both under the same management. I'm reviewing the buffet side. My buffet this night was £7.90--including a decent salad bar, a choice of two soups, and a hot buffet (including a modest carvery). Everything I tried was decent, and much of it was very good. Drinks and desserts are extra, but reasonable. The atmosphere was casual and a bit chaotic, but it was certainly an efficient and inexpensive route for supper. I emerged stuffed to the gills in less than an hour, for a shade over £10 including a pint of beer. The staff were understandably a bit harried, but generally perfectly pleasant. You may have to stand in line for a table, but turnover is reasonably brisk. If you break into groups of two or three, you'll be seated faster. The main rush seems to be 7:30-8:00 pm. The five stars represents decent and plentiful local fare at a great price. I'd be very surprised if there were a better value in the heart of old Lisbon.

The tuna was served with a steamed green vegetable - it looked like spinach but I think it was some other kind of green. The vegetable had a slightly bitter taste and was steamed, but oddly kind of dry. The tuna steak was a nice sized with a great flavor, but was a bit too salty. I later learned that tuna isn't local to Portugal. The veal was served with plenty of mushrooms. I had a taste and it was delicious. When we arrived, we were early and the place had a number of tables open. During the time we were there, it filled up. So, definitely a local establishment that doesn't cater to tourists. We felt as if we were the oddities that people working there were watching, but that was probably not the case - only a feeling. Overall, it was a good experience.

It was served with utensils for two. The waiter chuckled as he set it on the table and the tables around us started to laugh. When I clearly finished my meal with more than half left sitting there, he cleared it quickly and didn't even inquire if we wanted to take the leftovers to go. (He probably took the other half home for himself) We then asked for ONE cheesecake and held up one finger, the waiter even repeated "one". He came back with two cheesecakes and tried to set them down. We told him only one again. They were obviously trying to ring up the tab. When the bill came, the fish dish alone was 44 euros. This was the first and only place that took advantage of us during the two weeks we have been in Portugal and unfortunately it was our last meal before leaving this beautiful country which made us so sad. All that being said, if you eat here and are a foreigner, be very sure of what you are ordering and don't trust your waiter. I would avoid this place if not Portuguese.

We ordered the grilled octopus with potatoes cooked in olive oil. The side of the octopus was tremendous and mm mm tender. It really was cooked to perfection. Also, we had the fried shrimp in olive oil and garlic. For about 12 Euros, it must have been about 15 medium size shrimps. That was another home run. My son got the mustard steak which judging by other people's reviews, they were mainly positive. Yes the sauce drenches over the entire piece of grilled steak but it was not overpowering at all and complimented the protein well. All in all, great service and seems like a hole in the wall. Hey, that's the fun of it, right? For this place, I would definitely recommend.
