Seemed a bit of a gimmick to me as I go out for a chef to cook me a meal to how i specify, not for it to be left to me to decide. Also, as i like my steak rare, it meant i have a red hot plate continue to cook my steak that was now overdone. Likewise, if you like your steak welldone then your in for a long wait for it on the stone. It also only really will work in couples. Get a table of 6 all with a 100 degree hot stone and sauces and accompaniments and its a night in burns unit for dessert. Service was a total failure with us ordering sauces and onion rings and having to remind staff that we had ordered them. Seemed the staff there were not suitably trained in waiting tables. The vibe of the place is that the people seem to think its posher than it actually is. To assume its full of Call Centre Managers wouldnt be far from the truth. The food aint awful, it just that it aint great either and the price suggests it should be.

I had the garlic sweet chilli prawns of the specials board for starters and at £4.95 for 5 prawns a little sweet chilli sauce and lettuce was a little steep but was nice all the same. The main however was lovely I had a trio of wild boar venison ad kangaroo all the steaks come on a rock which continues to cook the meat while at the table keeping it warm and allowing you to cook it o your own liking.

I'd seen some terrible reviews of La Casita online but if being a person who writes online…read morerestaurant reviews teaches you anything, it's when other ones are not totally legit. So I ignored them and went anyway and I'm glad I did because it was a really delicious, good value meal with great friendly service. Rich and I shared the choriqueso and the guacamole bowl to start. The choriqueso as you may be able to guess is a ton of chorizo with a ton of melted cheese. Of course this was bloody delicious. The guacamole was good too, I'm not sure what was achieved by it being in a tortilla bowl but it definite didn't detract from anything. For mains I had tacos el pastor and Rich had fajitas with chicken and chorizo. The tacos were great - no weird hard shells here - and the filling very tasty. If I had any complaints here it would be that the meat had a slightly 'chalky' aftertaste, so possibly I'd try another taco filling on another visit. The hot sauce that comes with the tacos is pretty bloody hot, believe them when they say that. Rich's only complaint was that the fajitas came with a large amount of filling and only two small tortillas. To drink I had a bottle of Sol and a very good, very strong margarita. Rich had a pint of lager and a rum and coke. For two starters, two mains and four drinks we paid around £50 which I thought was pretty good. I'll definitely be back! I just hope it sticks around as businesses seem to come and go in this location (so go support them!).

A layer of lettuce sat on top with cream served with pico de gallo (Fresh Mexican salsa), and a spicy dipping sauce. The pulled pork was juicy and full of flavour, the outside was nice and crispy, and the spicy sauce was the perfect addition. I made a major foodie error, and ordered the Cochinita Pibil burrito for my main, which is basically an upsacle non-fried version of the Chimichangas - in my defence: PULLED PORK! The Cochinita Pibil was slow cooked pulled-pork marinated in oranges, lime and traditional Mayan flavouring, and was spot on! I HAVE NO REGRETS The restaurant is a quaint little place at the Chorlton end of Barlow Moor Road, with a large open window and terrace, which is great on a warm Summers' night like on the night I visited. The inside is filled with Mexican style décor, like an awesome painting depicted Cinco de Mayo celebrations. The price was very reasonable and service was great, friendly and attentive, and I will definitely return to sample the guacamole, and bigger variety of their dishes.

We went for a late lunch (about 1:30 p.m.) on a Saturday, so I wasn't expecting the place to be packed, but was certainly not expecting that we were the only ones there. We were browsing the menu and they have a Saturday and Sunday lunch menu for less than £9.00. They also have student specials. Everything on the menu looked really good, but I chose to go with the beef burrito. My friend went with the chicken fajitas. She also asked for sparkling water with lemon and the waitress had asked to double check that she said lemon, but when it was brought over it had a lime in it. At least we knew that the meal was going to be fresh... there was a lot of chopping and sizzling coming from the kitchen. My friend said that the chicken fajitas were good, but could've used a few more peppers rather than onions. My burrito looked lovely on the plate and I was so excited to see Pico de Gallo on the side of the plate. The pico was great, the burrito was really good as well. It was seasoned well, the tortilla soft (not crispy like a lot of other places), and I really liked the drizzle of sour cream and queso on the top of the burrito. The refried beans were good, but a little dry. And the rice... well I still haven't found a really good Mexican rice since I have been here. The rice was good, but tasted more like something you would get in an Indian/Middle Eastern restaurant. Overall I really liked the food. I would go back and I would recommend it to others.

Two words; Mexican Heaven. Ok now for the rest of the words…read more Gringos restaurant, Huddersfield is one of those places that are a hidden nugget of a town, that soon becomes a little bit of a local legend. You walk in and you're greeted almost instantly by a member of staff, before you get to know your bearings, you see a brightly decorated restaurant floor. Purple and red are the colours of choice. The tables are grand wood things with matching grand wooden chairs. You're seated, and menus are delivered and drink orders taken. Scanning over the menu, there's something for everyone who's willing to try something different to pizza, pasta and curry. Don't worry if you don't know the difference between a chimichanga and an enchilada, it's all there for explanation. Personally, I decided to try the chimichanga. I was not disappointed. First I was in awe at the size of the plate. Portion size, HUGE. The gargantuan chimichanga was full of the spicy lamb filling I ordered, and there was a nice portion of refried beans and potato wedges, all tex-mexed out, naturally. I'm glad I didn't go for the starter, by the time I'd finished my absolutely tasty meal, I was packed out to the limits, as was the rest of the overstuffed and replete members of my party. There were eight of us in total, and as we had pre-booked the table, sat down, and ordered all before 7pm, and the bill was brought to us before the hour of 8, all of our mains were 241, or bogof depending on how you look at it. In my opinion it was a royal bargain. Call it £1.50 for a small coke, and the total bill price for each person was £6.50. The only down side of our eating experience was that we were so full with our yumtastic and sizeable meals that we were all unable to roll our bellies forward to fill them with deserts, which were not two for one, but were very tasty in their appeal. So pleased we were with our meal, we re-booked for a second sitting a few weeks later, this time with 12 in our party and at a later sitting time of 8pm. Again the staff were very hospitable, and the place was packed, all good testament to how good the food is. As it wasn't two for one, various bods were willing to try the steaks and specials available, again all with accompanying noises of approval. And as it was after work hours, there were indulgences into the cocktail pitchers available, and also the shooters for the more daring. The alcohol is a bit steep in price at £15.95 a pitcher, but apparently the taste warranted it. Gringos has a great atmosphere, one of those places where you feel you could spend all night and have fun in a casual environment. Beware of elbow room, so popular is the place that there isn't a lot of room for manoeuvring oneself. I say get booked and eaten for 8pm and enjoy a full belly at a great price.
