After maybe 3 or 4 times calling them throughout the course of a day (yes, I can sometimes be that person - not always, I promise!), we finally booked. We rented 2 single kayaks for a Sunday morning. Once we got there, we actually decided to push back the time for the 3 hours float vs. the original 5 we booked. Once the time came for our float, there was a school bus out in the parking lot, and a number of hopped on. The driver was very accommodating and told us a great deal of info. After going through the woods, we made it to our destination in what looked like the middle of nowhere. We hopped out, she told us how to find the destination point for pick up and what all to look out for in the water. They picked us up shortly after we finished our float and we were headed back to Houston!

We are not…read moreexperienced kayakers and you should keep that in mind as you read this because that is the perspective from which I write. The person who took my reservation on the phone was fantastic. When we got to their main location, the girls who helped get us ready were outstanding. There was one person in particular, who was so incredibly helpful and put us at ease. When you finish up your registration you can use the restrooms at their store and there's plenty of merchandise that you can buy, both things that are helpful (think sunscreen, dry bags, snacks), and things that are fun, like postcards and stickers. We paid for a tandem kayak and for a valet service, which was very helpful and made it so that we had to drive to the put in place and then only had to pick up our car when we got to the end of our time. I didn't realize that the drive to the place where we would pick up the kayak and start our float (about 18 mins from the store) was over about 2 miles of a VERY bumpy, dusty, rocky road. Somebody might have mentioned it or it was in the literature, but I just missed it and was slightly worried because we just had a 2 wheel drive rental, and it was rough riding to get there so keep that in mind. When we arrived there was a pit toilet which was helpful and the guys helping with the boats were good (You might want to have some cash to give you a tip although I don't think that's expected but our guy was extra helpful.) Also I want to mention that I am plus-sized and had no problems with the kayak at all. We had an incredible time and it took us about three hours altogether including one stop along the way of about 20 minutes where we ate a snack (made sure to clean all of our trash up), swam for a while and went on our way. We went on a Tuesday at 11am and thought it was slightly crowded, it never felt overwhelming, and we were able to slow down or speed up whenever we felt that we were too close to another group. I also thought that people were respectful when they had speakers and it was never loud or obnoxious. Two things I didn't know before that I hope can help someone else. The first is that there were a couple of times when we went over fast moving water (I can't even really call it rapids, but definitely moving quickly) where we got stuck on the rocks and almost turned over. Not a huge deal and almost entirely due to our lack of experience, but just keep that in mind it's not 100% floating peacefully the entire time. Once we had that experience on the first couple times we were completely fine for the rest. The other thing is that just past the place where you pull in and drop off your kayak is a super fun area where you can paddle into a cave, jump from the rocks, and just kind of hang out. If we would've known that it was there we would've stayed around a bit longer. Again, nobody's fault Just something we didn't know beforehand. LOVE Riverview Cabins & Canoes!…read more Hubby & I do a weekend get away to the Arkansas mountains at least once a year & this last time we decided to stay here! We have stayed many places & we usually stay at Petit Jean but we decided to check out Riverview Cabins & Canoes & it turned out to be the best trip to the Arkansas mountains we have ever had. We rented the small cabin for 2 with the hot tub. It was so adorable! The bed was super comfy & the hot tub was amazballs. It was perfect for 2, very romantic & had everything we needed. The first night it rained & we hung out & made veal meatballs. So yummy! We loved the little gas stove & the giant shower. There was also a cute little fireplace & bear rug! So adorable. The hiking in the woods was cool, the canoeing & river was beautiful & the riding stables were well kept. The whole property was very nice. All the Cabins were picture perfect. There are a couple different canoeing trips you can take & you can hike & ride the trails. There is a little town near by you can go have lunch too, we checked that out, it was very cool with some very cool old buildings & a couple fun lunch spots. It is out in BFE, Walmart, grocery stores & liquor stores are like an hours drive away so bring everything you need b4 you get there. The lady that works the check in was very sweet & very kind to us. The clocks sprang forward (daylight saving time) & we overslept the last day bc our bed was that comfy! I called her & she was very cool about it & gave us an extra hour to check out. That was almost 3 months ago & we are still talking about what a great time we had there :)) We can't wait to go back! Our bus and some of the equipment (paddles, canoe) were a bit banged up or well used. It was a lot of fun, more class 1 or maybe class 2 than expected by the novices. But fun fun fun. We originally booked a camp side with electric and water for 2 days and would float on our last full day. We decided to extend our campsite and change our float to the next day AND swap to kayaks Instead of tubes. When we went to the office to make the changes and they were more than happy to help us as if it were no big deal! I also watched the owner down by the river everyday we were there just greeting people and chatting and helping in any way possible. I'm pretty sure I saw him pulling someone's car that had broke down. Just a testament to how helpful they are. The Campsite- my wife and I got site L for 3 days. The owner had just finished mowing the grass as we pulled up and it was very clean and level. I had read one old review that said the electric pole was a hundred feet away or something so I showed up with 5 extension cords. lol to my surprise, the electric pole was right at the side and 10 feet away from our tent! But I was ready. The water spigot was also right behind that so it was all very close. There was a nice fire ring and a camp style grill and the picnic table was in great shape. No one was in the site to our right but there were some folks in the site to our left but there was just enough space that it was no bother. The bathrooms were just a short walk up the hill. There was one men's and one women's restroom that stayed clean the whole time we were there and there were two showers, each in its own individual room. All 4 doors had pin pad knobs so they stayed locked and you needed a code to get in, they didn't give us any issues. The showers were push knobs so you have to hold them to keep water flowing but the temps were good. A little warm for my tastes but my wife loved it. The River- we decided on the kayaks instead of the tubes as we have tubes the river a few times and wanted to check out a little more. Since we were camping at the shuttle site, we just had to jump on a van once we were ready and they took us on a ten minute ride to the river. The driver was very knowledgeable and gave us some good tips. We ultimately floated for about 4 hrs to get back. The river was around 5.3 river level gauge so we did have a few spots where I had to get out but my wife slid right over. Guess I should lose a few pounds hahaha. It's definitely an easy paddle and kid friendly. There were a few spots with some faster moving water but nothing to be alarmed about. All in all it was a great experience. I will say, if you are looking for a quiet, in the woods campsite, this isn't it. It is close to the road so you hear every truck going down the road and those boys in Central Arkansas love their glasspack mufflers! lol but if you are looking for somewhere to camp after floating the river, this place is perfect! Due to a big rain earlier, we could not take the trip we had signed up for, but he worked with us and got us out on a different nearby river. My son and I got what amounted to a private tour on the water. He's a knowledgeable guy and very nice. Little Rock is a very beautiful area and Sam took us pretty deep into it. We learned a lot of the history and the natural features of the area, got in a pretty good workout, and had a great time. Sam also does bike tours and will tour the Arkansas River in the downtown area on kayaks and can also go out on a barge. We would do everything with him if time permitted but we were only there for a day. Time permitting, we will be back there one day and I'm hoping sooner rather than later. If you're in Little Rock I highly recommend look up Sam Ellis at Rock Town River Outfitters.

They've shuttled our vehicles to a variety of locations as we ventured up and down for more of the Buffalo. The quoted price from 45$ per canoe was changed to 65$. She said we can't cancel, but we have to pay and they would give us a one year credit. We went to wild bills who had put in people all day long and had no issues at all. I would not recommend setting your expectations for this outfitter.
