The food is fresh, tasty, and consciously made. My sandwich (pumpkin, onion, goat cheese, arugula) came with a pretty bright pink dijon beet dip. The beef in the steak sandwich was miraculously not tough, considering the cut. There are set specials between 8am and 12:30pm, and then again later in the evening (for breakfast and merienda). Larger lunch sets (menu del dia) start around 90 pesos and include a glass of wine. My cafe con leche was around 30 pesos, but enormous. Worth a visit? Yes, if you want to settle down in a cute cafe with some newspapers and magazines. The prices are somewhat higher and there's nothing much here for a tourist to gawk at, but I can see this being a local favorite for lunch dates (and solo dates).

Only one waiter spoke a little English, but Gayle's months long Rosetta Stone Spanish lessons paid dividends. We found that unlike the French, Argentinians appreciated the effort to speak Castellano. We ordered appetizers, including the biggest cheese plate we've ever seen and a couple of empanadas. We then split a steak, a beer, and some wine, which rounded out our tasty meal quite nicely. There were lots of stuff on the menu, so no one will go hungry here. And compared to US restaurant prices, Argentina meals are a real bargain (including the customary 10% tip). We also enjoyed the historic neighborhood vibe and invites folks to hang around for awhile. Our only regret was not being here later when the action really starts.

The pasta was done perfectly al dente and stuffed with flavorful filling. One of my companions ordered the steak (bife de chorizo), which was char grilled to perfection. I've visited only during the daytime, when the bar is pretty quiet, but I hear business really picks up late at night. Give it a try if you're in San Telmo!
