Thai Style Mussels
Erika F.

To have some a prime location in downtown Austin, I was a bit disappointed with my experience when I dined for #Afrotech23. The best part of my experience was the mussels. 10 out of 10. The soup and savory with a hint of sweetness. Plenty of mussels too. The stuffed shrimp meal lacked seasoning - don't be afraid of old bay. Mashed potatoes needed some salt and garlic powder.

Start or a road trip heading to Chicago for Thanksgiving. 1 st night stop is Austin, Tx to see Wynona . Zac was our server. He was outstanding and informative. Started with a doz oysters on half shell. Very fresh. Got a combination at Zac"s recommendation. I had the wedge salad and my partner had a cup of gumbo. Wedge salad was good with a twist of goldfish for crunch. The gumbo was very good, although my partner likes okra in his gumbo, which this did not have. I ordered the kick ass sea bass and my partner had the rosemary and artichoke pasta with shrimp. The sea bass was cooked to perfection. Flakey and moist. Teriyaki glaze with garlic mash and asparagus. Pasta was very good with well seasoned shrimp. Atmosphere is modern yet comfortable. Very "Austin like". I will definitely recommend stopping here. I will return!

Tonight I went here with with my boyfriend and friends and we had Josh as our server. He went above and beyond to make the experience great. Drinks and food came fast. The food and drinks were really good. This place is a hidden gem. As locals it takes a lot for me to love a restaurant as much as I loved this place. added some brunch plates, so so good. will return again

This place was completely dead. Like DEAD. The host was also the waiter, and also the bartender--give the kid a raise. He was actually the best thing about this place. Broke down the menu and was very clear and confident on every plate on the menu. Kudos to him for that, so here's the first star. The Food, I mean look at my pictures. They weren't great. The Brussels sprouts I had alongside my stuffed shrimp were fried to a crisp. No nutritional value was left from these poor guys and the shrimp were just under cooked. The pasta wasn't terrible but with nobody else in the building, you'd think it would at least be warm. Oh and had the oysters as well, very fresh but is that the restaurant or the supply chain. I'll give them kudos for this hence the two stars. Overall, just not worth the time and money to dine here. There's so many other better seafood places here.

This is the avocado and salmon toast. This was sooooo good even for a none salmon lover.

The food was really good. We split the avocado and salmon toast. It was plenty to share and enjoy!

Dirty tables
Food Is My Love Language H.

Waited about 6 mins at the hostess station while staff looked at us and talked among themselves across the empty restaurant. Literally not one occupied table at an hour and a half before closing. Had to walk over and ask the bartender if she could seat us. Booths were covered in crumbs and food. She said, " I'm going to close this door by you because we have a party of 45 back there and it's allll women" and rolled her eyes. We were surrounded by tables covered in dirty dishes and a floor that was pretty dirty. After waiting a reasonable amount of time for someone to come to our table we finally got up to leave. The manager was behind the bar chatting with bartender. As we walked past he asked if everything was ok, we said no, told him about the wait, the dirty booths and dirty tables all around. He waved his hand toward the door and said have a nice night and turned his back. Obviously explains why the restaurant was empty. Avoid this place.

We had a reservation but still had to wait a long time to be seated. Restaurant was kind of empty and I only saw 1 cook in the kitchen. The host tried to deter us from getting a drink at the bar while we were waiting and told us his bartender wouldn't be able to keep up. Not sure what the dynamics are at this place but she was great and was the best part of our experience. The table service on the other hand was not so great. One person literally waited until the end of her meal to get the drink she had ordered when we had first been seated. Food was ok. Bread was really good. But someone at my table got stabbed by some unknown stick that was in the middle of her burger. The waitress did not handle it well but the manager finally came over and was more professional. Would not go back.

I came here with my heart on a mixed cold platter but they were out of all types of crab. Bummer. I had to settle for the Redfish Louisiane which wasn't all that bad. The food was okay, I sat at the bar and the restaurant was pretty empty for middle of the week and the service was rather slow but everyone was very nice.

Came here for a group dinner. Certainly enjoyed the ambiance - very oceanic and nautical, even the tap knob in the bathroom are adorable dolphins! The food itself was just OK.

Elena and I went to Cafe Blue (Downtown) since it was so incredibly close to the Austin Convention Center and nearby hotels (Hilton, Marriott, and others). We were welcomed into a bright, smartly upscale and sophisticated space that was sunny, open, and offered ample privacy in both dining rooms. We were so impressed at lunch with Steve the oyster-expert host and Milan, our wonderfully friendly waitress and the mouth-wateringly delicious food (oysters, wedge salad, clam chowder---all must-haves!!) and friendly, informative, and fast service that we came back for dinner! At dinner, Lucky served us with finesse, as well! Had the best Chilean Sea Bass ever (even beating what I've been spoiled on in New York City). Don't you dare ever forget to get the key lime pie with the schlag whipped to a firm texture and the custardy key lime melting at each bite with the crust finishing with a home-baked cookie taste that was a finishing master stroke. Accompany with some of fine Texas bourbon and you will experience some of the best seafood meals in the neighborhood.

Nicely decorated, we were there Sat around noon, they served brunch and lunch. I ordered the sesame crusted Tuna with seaweed it was great and fresh! We ordered the peel and eat shrimp, not enough seasoning and it was ok and why thousand island dressing with it? We ordered the seafood sampler for $50 it came with 4 oysters on half shell (definatly frozen and old), the jumbo gulf crab were old and smelled fishy we informed the waiter he said to let the chef know, he came back with different ones, and he was like "those are newer"!!!! The "newer" crabs were not that good either and full of water, their Ceviche was decent except except for the old tomatoes in there and no avocados! Try and order all cooked items! Service was horrible the waiter was a bar tender at the same time, he was all over the place! I do not recommend this place as a fresh seafood place!

Decided to tryout out this restaurant. Had a painkiller $10 and the lobster rolls $22. Both were pretty tasty. I appreciated that you could see the lobster claw meat because it wasn't drowning in a sauce. Also had the creme brûlée for dessert. I'm a big creme brûlée fan and expect the crystallized sugar on top. This one also had powdered sugar. That's sugar on top of sugar! I would suggest they ask before doing that because it was way too sugary. Other than that, we enjoyed it. We'll be back to try happy hour when it comes back;)

The food was alright. What bothered me most was the smell of the restaurant... I don't know what it was but it ruined my experience.

My favorite part was the DJ was also playing electric guitar to accompany some of the songs in his lineup. It was really cool. I've never seen a DJ do that before. We waited maybe 15 minutes at the walk-in line as others progressively started to pile on behind us. Then again, even people in the reservation line were waiting. This is definitely the kind of place that wants you to wait. The kind of place that wants to build a line outdoors to intrigue onlookers. We were treated nicely, but we definitely could have gotten in right away. By the time we walked in, the place was probably at 60% capacity. It was standing room only at the bar, but not overcrowded by any means. There is a dress code, but it's not entirely clear what it is. Some guy dressed to the 9s got turned away for not having sleeves whereas I got in with sneakers and a t-shirt. They ask for your cellphones upon entering and give you a key in exchange, but there doesn't seem to be any security to enforce it if you don't want to give them up. I have no problem with their policy, but I bet a lot of customers do. Interestingly, their little social experiment seemed to have a positive effect, where we ended up talking to strangers and vice versa. The Powder Room may be making America social again.

There's enough of a vibe for this place to feel lively even when it's mostly empty, yet it also avoids the earsplitting noise that may come with a more crowded venue. The bartenders are amicable, and the menu showcases some creative - and creatively named - cocktails. Lara went with a Moon Song (rum, blackberry, lime, and honey with lavender cold foam) and an espresso martini and enjoyed both. I opted for a zero proof drink: the high and mighty (agave, nonalcoholic ginger and floral liqueurs, jasmine tea, and spiced salt). It was refreshing but didn't quite hit the mark for me. What should have been complex and balanced came across as overly floral. All told, Marlow is worth a visit even if it is unlikely to wow you.

I went to Whisler's and had one of the worst bar experiences I've ever had…read more I had one drink. I was completely sober for all intents and purposes. The bartender claimed I was drunk and cut me off anyway. I was at the bar talking to a girl while waiting to get a drink (the wait was long because the service is very slow, despite the bar not being very busy at all). She was clearly into me, and the bartender kept jumping in trying to talk to her too (instead of doing his job making drinks). He was doing all sorts of things to try and flirt with her and make her laugh: pulling out and showing her buckets of pre mixed cocktails, running and sliding under the bar, etc. She was engaging with both of us , and right in the middle of that, I get cut off out of nowhere. No explanation other than claiming I looked drunk, which I very clearly wasn't. It felt very clear what was going on--he wanted me out of the way. I left and asked the bouncer on my way out if I seemed drunk. This was literally two minutes later. He said no, not at all, and asked me why I would even ask that. I then told him exactly what happened and asked him to let the owner or whoever was in charge know about this extremely unprofessional conduct so they can discipline the bartender. His response was that the bartender has discretion to cut anyone off, and let me know the bartender is supposedly married so he couldn't have been flirting with any of the customers. Well, sounds like his logic is flawed--not only COULD he flirt with his customers, he WAS, and was therefore cheating. I hope his wife finds out. This is perfectly representative of Austin customer service lately and not normal in other places. I was in Tampa for an entire month earlier this year and this would've been unthinkable there. I'm not coming back.
