Food was good but not great. The restaurant was very welcoming as we walked in and we were seated right away. I made a reservation for four on open table for a regular table but was seated to a high top. Didn't complain though as we just wanted to get seated and eat. Waitress was very attentive and provided a good run down of the menu. Started with the coconut shrimp, Rockefeller oysters and a 1/2 dozen raw ones. The Rockefeller ones were a bit overcooked and didn't have much flavor too much breadcrumbs. The raw ones were tiny in comparison to the dish it was in and were also just ok. For our entrees we ordered the special which was the trout with lobster Mac and cheese. It's more a pasta dish than a fish dish which was not what we expected. I had the appetizer order of the Alaskan king crab legs. I liked how they were seasoned but unfortunately they were not fresh, dry and had little crab meat in each leg so not my definition of king crab legs. Stopped by Cafe Blue around 10pm last night for dinner after a show. Kitchen was winding down and there weren't many diners left. Sourdough rolls came out but they weren't warm and the butter was super chilled. We ordered the Jamaican jerk chicken pasta and fried gulf oyster poboy. The pasta was good. Not too spicy. The mushrooms in the dish worked well with the chicken, spice and pasta. Felt quite heavy though due to the cream. The oyster poboy was ok. It was colder than I would have liked and the fries that came with it were soggy. I wish the bread was toasted more and the oysters were warmer. It would have made for a great poboy. Wasn't impressed with the food but perhaps it's due to the timing. I think restaurants should serve high quality entrees regardless of the time. But that's just my opinion. Willing to go back and try their brunch with others rave about. read more

What a lovely restaurant! We were merely looking for a last minute place to eat. Everything was booked but was able to get an early reservation. We were so glad to find Cafe Blue! I was craving their tenderloin with crab cake and sherry cream sauce... it's a dish I made up that they make for me! Was totally what I wanted for my last night being pregnant meal and was excited to give in to that craving. Turns out I have two more weeks and I get to have their yummy dish again later. If you're looking for a cute place with fantastic food with a large menu that gets you seated ASAP, this is your place! Food/Drink- I give the food a 5 star rating! The food was SO good. The only complaints I had about the food was the ceviche had tilapia in it and tilapia is a farm grown fish that is not good for you. I figured a place like this would have used a nicer fish. There was also red fish in it though, so that made up for it. I got the tropical style one- with mangos! For dinner, I had the cedar plank grilled salmon and I have 0 complaints on that. It was so good. The salmon was medium rare, cooked to perfection and had a crispy outside and tender inside bite to it. (My favorite!) It also came with a cucumber mint slaw, which I wasn't too excited about BUT it was actually delicious and a great pairing. To drink- I had the sangria which had tropical fruit on it and they put a cute little umbrella on top. The ONLY thing that really confused me was the oyster prices. They were like $48.00 for a dozen, which seems like a lot. I've had a dozen oysters that were phenomenal and were only about $20-$28 and that was at a mid range restaurant ($$$). I just think that's definitely over priced. To each their own though! Service- This was by far the best part. Everyone here was SO nice and attentive. Our waitress was awesome! She came to the table right away and she wasn't overbearing when she checked on us. She knew pretty much every answer to every question we had (good job for being new!) and she took my allergies in to account and was really accommodating about it, didn't seem annoyed or anything like that. She was genuinely friendly and truly seemed to enjoy her job, which is a plus. Even the host was friendly and seated us promptly. Ambiance- The inside was nice. The decor was slightly outdated and kind of cheesey, but I liked it! I liked all the blue. Some may not have because it is outdated, but I actually enjoyed that. It wasn't busy at all but even if it was, the dining area was very spacious. It felt like a really relaxed and chill vibe, which was nice. It's more of an upscale restaurant, but it didn't feel snooty like some of them can. Overall, great experience! I'd definitely come back to try something different. This restaurant was very disappointing. Poor service, lack luster salty food, and high prices sum up my recent trip to Cafe Blue. The service was incredibly slow despite the Thursday evening visit -- the restaurant was far from full, so I'm confused why it would be so slow. We weren't in a rush, but it took a remarkably long time between each step of ordering, receiving food, ordering dessert, receiving dessert, asking for the check, receiving the check, and processing the credit card. Every step of the way there was a significant wait. Moreover, the food wasn't even particularly good. The warm-ish rolls are a nice idea, but not very tasty. Overly salted and not the best taste. We didn't even finish one roll each. The main dishes we ordered were the a Grilled Sea Bass ($39) and the Red Fish Louisianne ($27). The Sea Bass was a very small portion, it was over cooked and tough. It came with sautéed spinach and rice pilaf -- both were unreasonably salty! The Red Fish was fine, but nothing special. The sauce and shrimp on the red fish was tasty -- probably the only redeeming factor of that dish. The sides with the red fish were the same salty rice pilaf and some mushy asparagus spears. The only good thing we ate that night were the Oysters Rockefeller ($18). They were fresh and delicious! I would recommend them, but that's the only reason I would ever return to this lackluster seafood restaurant. Oh that and the decent sized pour for a glass of wine. The prices here are pretty high as I've indicated in this review. I wouldn't have minded if the quality of the food or the quality of the service had matched the prices -- but I don't think it's worth it l, all things considering. TLDR; will not return for overly salty dinner and poor service. May possibly return for oysters and wine - but unlikely. read more

I've never had the opportunity to try Cafe Blue, but when I saw they were listed on Uber Eats, I said - now is the time! I'm really glad that I did. I ordered the Bacon and Brie Burger; it was phenomenal! The burger was memorable for many reasons. First, the onion rings inside were something else. The breading on them was so flavorful with seeds. The bacon, Brie, and sauce were so well paired. The fries on the side were tasty. Was very happy with my delicious meal and it was for a great price too. I'm excited to try more things on their menu. There was no bartender to be seen and after 20 minutes he came back to tell us the whiskey we picked they did not have. We selected another and 15 minutes later was told they were out of that too. We came for Easter lunch. Tried to come in for their brunch because we all had eyes for their eggs Benedict selection but they were fully committed (unfortunate for us). The food is absolutely wonderful! Our server was very knowledgeable and treated us fairly well. My boyfriend and I had ordered the crab cakes for an appetizer which was delicious! Could have used a little more of the aioli but was still tasty. He got a burger and fries... best fries I've had in a while! I ordered the blackened mahi mahi tacos which are very light and not crazy filling. It tasted extremely fresh and was very satisfying. Our friends ordered the civiche .. which I'm not one to love civiche in general; however the one at Cafe Blue was mind blowing! One friend had also gotten the seafood crepes which were TO DIE FOR. The best thing about dinner was the bread. I had high hopes from being at the other location, but this just made me sad. The crab cake appetizer was delicious. The mustard sauce with it and the coleslaw was perfect. Dinner, however, was boring and not worth what I spent on it. I ordered the shrimp stuffed crab which was pretty bland. I wish the stuffed crap had some spice to it, but it was boring as was the shrimp it was on. I was disappointed, but the creamed spinach and asparagus was delicious. It could have done without the extra breading on the spinach. Someone else in my party ordered the seared ahi and it was drenched in a teriyaki sauce that took away from everything. Everyone gave this place a thumbs up! First, the oysters! Oh wow! Fresh fresh fresh and delicious. Friends had rockefellers (sp?) and said they were ok, but preferred the half shell selection. Waitress was really knowledgeable and gave great insight into the different locations and tastes - sweet, briney, etc. Seemed glad to share and we didn't feel "schooled". We all tried different dishes and shared. I had the crab topped flounder which was ok but topping was a bit soggy - too much breading. Kick-ass Teriyaki sea bass and trout dishes were by far the hits of the evening. Ny strip was perfectly cooked but a hint too smokey. Deserts were fab - creme brûlée and key lime pie. I genuinely wanted to like this place a lot more than I did. The ambiance is cool & the service is great, but for a downtown Tuesday lunch, I think it's simply overpriced. If the food is blowing me away that's one thing, but when I'm looking at a virtually empty restaurant at high noon, I'm thinking I'm not the only one thinking this. The clam chowder is good and I could do their coffee & bread all day. But the seared tuna slices were just okay, and the pair of silver dollar sized crab cakes at $8 a pop encouraged me to eat real slowly. What is it with crab cakes in Austin? I probably should have gone with the salads. I'm curious how different it is at dinner, because the original Cafe Blue in Bee Cave is always packed. But for weekday lunch, this particular block of downtown 2nd St may be the hardest place in Austin to pull off pricey upscale casual: With Gus, Max, Fogo, and P.F. all competing for your lunchtime dollar, and you pretty much have to use the $10 valet, it's real easy to get picky around here. read more

Pretty amazing food here! Definitely give it a try. It's not easy being between Fogo De Chao and Fleming's, but Cafe Blue makes it look good and taste even better. Wide variety on the menu from burgers and entree salads to fresh fish and serious steaks. I choose a glass of wine (half price for happy hour!), calamari, and chef Ben's half rotisserie chicken. Three great picks. Sooo delicious! The wine was Kim Crawford and for $7 it couldn't be beat! The calamari was light, crispy, and crunchy with sesame seeds and a dipping sauce. A good amount to share with the table. The rotisserie chicken was really amazing. It was so tender and fantastic that I even enjoyed the moist white meat as much as I enjoyed the dark meat. The chicken itself has a light flavor that gave it a hint of sourness. The skin was charred and flavorful and the chicken was cooked absolutely perfectly. For whatever reason, I find that chicken is usually over cooked but not here. I couldn't have asked for a more satisfying meal. It's on the menu as Chef Ben's Famous Rotisserie Chicken and it held to its name! There are so many good options on the menu to try that I will definitely be back! Treated poorly. Threatened and refused service because of lack of staffing. I've been to Cafe Blue a number of times over the years, staff has always been nice. This weekend I attended a large dinner where there was only one server helping our table. I understand it's a large table so it will take some time, however, 10 minutes pass without seeing our server, so I ask a server who dropped drinks to someone else if we could get drinks from our sever. Another 5-10 minutes pass with nobody taking mine and 2 other's drink orders so we mosey up to the bar hoping to grab a drink. The bartender asked if we were sitting at a table and we said yes, but we've been here over 15 minutes and haven't seen our server. He said well it doesn't matter cause it's the same bar and will take the same amount of time. We respond, that's ok! We just haven't been greeted and would like some libations, plus there was nobody sitting at the bar so we thought we would take advantage. We were denied the ability to order at the bar again by the bartender when the manager walks up. He said how can I help you? And we happily(and nicely) tell him the situation hoping he would understand, as he is the manager. He was very defensive and said they're short staffed and we are required to wait for our server. We understand staffing is challenging at the moment, we just wanted to pay for 3 drinks, as we have been here for 20 minutes now without being able to order anything. He then threatened us saying that he could cut us off if he thinks we've already been drinking too much. We hadn't even had a drink that night. We ended up going back to the table, wishing that we didn't have to stay at Cafe Blue because we were not treated as patrons, rather as a threatening party at some cheap downtown joint. We eventually got our drinks 45 minutes after arriving but I will not recommend this restaurant anymore. read more

I have read the mixed reviews before coming. They do specialize in seafood. We ordered all appetizers for our dinner. We had crab cakes, Thai mussels, calamari, spring salad, and lobster rolls. They were all great choices. When the dinner rolls came out I used them to dip in the sauce of the Thai mussels. The complimentary bread does have a sea salt on top. If your eating it plain it can be salty. Everything tasted great. I would definitely recommend this place. read more

Lovely place. Lovely atmosphere. I went in around 5:00 PM on a Friday night, it was only me and the staff! After I questioned them about the absence of patrons, they informed me people don't come out until until 6:30. Bonus! My server was amazing. They didn't have the beer I normally drink so he offered to bring me two samples. Awesome! I ordered the ribeye steak, which came with creamed spinach, mashed potatoes, and a great peppercorn sauce. Everything was really good, the mashed potatoes were firm, and a tad chunky (like I like them), the creamed spinach was good (perfect), the Ribeye was just okay... I have had better at Morton's... My bill came to $45 with my Corona Extra. I can't complain! The server has his manager even come and recommend two places for me to go horseback riding! read more
