The steak we asked for medium rare, got it rare and bloody, and that stooge cook calls himself a chef!! What a joke. On top of that, My drink was too sour, the 'manger' I presume, bloke in blue shirt asked if it was good, I replied 'not bad' then he pressed again to see if I would like it 'fixed up' he took it away and I did not see it for another 40 minutes! It was not indeed fixed up, they just put a lime in it! at the end we asked for a discount, as our food has not up to par, nor what we even ordered/asked for in the first place, we got offered a complimentary dessert, not even a discount for getting the $55 steak completely wrong! The restaurant is part of 2 places, the Red Ochre Grill was located upstairs, and the place was very classy and trendy. The waitress got a bit lost in locating out table and had to recheck again, but managed to seat us on a 6 seat table in the middle. There is no disability friendly access for Red Ochre grill however if you request for one, there is access on the ground floor for the River Cafe. For entree I had the arancini, which was nice, and I also managed to snag some of my husband's bruschetta which was great. It had a good kick of garlic without being overpowering. For mains I was served possibly the biggest eye fillet that has ever existed. The photo doesn't really do it justice; it was huge, cooked to perfection, full of flavour and meltingly tender. My husband had the pork belly. It was nice and sweet and the meat fell apart as soon as the fork touched it. The crackling was good, but not great. My brother had the barramundi, I didn't try it but he was happy with it. The kids chose the chicken nuggets and fish & chips. The nuggets were your stock standard fare. The fish, however was one large (adult-sized) piece in a homemade herb crumb. My daughter wasn't so keen on the crumb (perhaps too strong a herb flavour for a young child) but we cut that off and she happily devoured the fish. After dinner they did tea, coffe and babycinos. Then it was time for dessert. I didn't try the chocolate birthday cake, but everyone seemed to love it. There was even a separate cake for the kids (rainbow sponge). They also have a wood pizza oven there. We didn't have pizza as part of our function but I did see some getting delivered to the tables outside and they looked good. If we hadn't just eaten a three course meal I would have ordered a pizza for the long drive home. The decor was nice, looked like a wedding reception with the fabric draped from the ceiling. There's also a large grassed area out the front. The kids had fun running around out there between courses. It would be better if it was fenced off better, but not really a big deal as one of us was always out there with the kids. The staff were also great. There were plenty of staff working and they were all really nice and attentive throughtout the function. I have been fortunate enough to dine outside in the tiny courtyard which appeals to my love of outdoor dining and also means that you can escape the noise created by fellow diners in a packed restaurant. The menu is extensive - a large, double-sided laminated sheet offers pastas, risottos, pizza, a good range of salads and plenty of sweet treats for after your meal. You order your food and drink at the counter and meals are delivered to your table. The service is fairly prompt, but I've got the impression the young staff can't wait for their shift to finish. Coffee is good and I sometimes grab a takeaway from here if Mooi's (cafe in the middle of the Mitcham Shopping Centre) is closed. (Soy milk is Vitasoy Cafe) They also do a movie meal deal which is well priced.

I've also tried the drink called "Cham" which is actually a mixture of soybean milk and glass jelly. Although there are some 'modification' to the ingredients, like the Wanton noodles, the Wanton are not actual Wantons, but Dim Sim; most dishes I tried are true authentic taste of Malaysian food. It's common to see a long queue in the restaurant. You have to make your orders first and get a table number from the counter. The restaurant settings feels like the 80 to early 90s. Unfortunately they also lose a vote because of the consistently horrible coffee. I'm not sure who their supplier of beans is (though I did see Lavazza stamped on one of those vertical PVC pipe grinds bins), but whoever it is should go in guerrilla style and ask them to make a Latte. The first time I tried one I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt; just a bad day, maybe. The second time we went, it was equally as bad - not only was it scalding hot, but it tastes like the beans themselves are burnt.
