Nigel, the owner of C Thomas, offers a wide selection of classic sandwiches, salads, baked potatoes, etc, and a good variety of freshly cooked bread for your butties, pies, buns, as well as the obligatory drinks, crisps and chocolates. All the bread is freshly made each morning, and it seems like all the ingredients used are of great quality for a sandwich shop. My personal favourite sandwich is definitely the hot bacon, egg and sausage - a true, simple classic, cooked well and with great tasting ingredients. I'm also a sucker for his baked potatoes with cheese & beans, another English classic! Hot sandwiches include all the usual 'breakfast' ingredients (bacon, sausage, tomato, egg, etc), as well as Nigel's famous hot pork and hot turkey, with all the trimmings. Cold sandwich ingredients include beef, pork, turkey & ham; tuna, sweetcorn, cheese, egg mayo, corned beef & potted meat; prawns & crab sticks; and real treats chicken tikka and dripping. All can come with salady, on either a standard breadcake, french stick or large breadcake - fondly referred to by their customers as 'bin lids'! I would definitely recommend C Thomas, or "Nigels" as we all know it. The food is great, but the huge plus is the banter in the shop - Nigel is blessed with true Yorkshire sarcasm, and the banter between him, the ladies who work for him and his customers really does brighten up a dull work day. You know you're a regular when you start to get picked on! The only 'downside' I can think of are that the front of the shop doesn't look massively appealing right now, but look out for the white sign with 'C THOMAS' in red letters. I didn't care for the sweet cream cheese and ended up taking that off. The avocado looked pretty, but tasted underripe. It also came with toast. My husbands pork pie was okay. It tasted like a summer sausage in a flaky pastry. It came with a side salad with Stilton cheese and walnuts, which was also just okay. The server was very friendly and prices were reasonable. If I lived here, I would definitely try again, but I would order different foods.

Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? Tucked away in a side alley, the location of Mrs. Bridges is as much a landmark as anything in Leicester, and once you step inside you'll understand why. The most comfortable of settings includes various tea rooms on two levels as well as an outdoor seating area that I was able to enjoy on what was a beautiful sunny Saturday morning. It was crowded at 1030, but I was still able to have a seat right away and service didn't lag. I can't stress enough how fantastic the atmosphere at Mrs. Bridges Tea Rooms is, and loved that even school age children seemed to really enjoy and appreciate it along with the expected adult crowd. Star Granted. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? £6.50 is a beautiful price for French toast with bacon and maple syrup with a pot of tea for an additional £1.85. As you can see in the picture my portion was hearty and I was more than satisfied at the end of the day with what would have easily cost me £12 in London. Star Granted. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? I'm not entirely sure whether the atmosphere or the fact that it was a beautiful day just made everything taste better, but my french toast was amazing even while being as simple as can be. There was nothing fancy here but there didn't need to be, and I noticed as I was sitting down that a steady stream of people were coming in for sandwiches to go that everyone was raving about (and kudos for having special sandwiches that rotate). There are some meals that you really can't even put a finger on with respect to what makes it so good, and this was one of those meals. Dual Stars Granted. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? Mrs. Bridges Tea Rooms is a well known Leicester establishment whose appeal could possibly be bottled and expanded, but for now it's a brilliant gem in the center of England that I'd gladly visit daily. I hope to go back and get the opportunity to pump it up. I got the bacon and brie sandwich with the red onion marmalade, which was good but somehow a bit blander than I expected, the bread I had wanted had run out so maybe that was it. My boyfriend's turkey sandwich looked delicious so next time I'll go for a non-toasted sandwich so I can really taste their fresh bread. One of my vegetarian friends was accidentally served a sandwich with ham in it: she let the staff know as they brought it to us and it was immediately taken away and replaced with the correct sandwich. I ordered the smoked chicken and bacon toasted ciabatta which also had red leicester cheese used in it which I thought was a lovely touch. It was quite strong flavour-wise though so I had to keep refreshing my palate with beverages. The one issue we did have was with getting tap water. We asked a passing waitress if we could have some tap waters and she advised that it would be a while as they were very busy. We waited for a fair amount of time before asking a different waitress, who advised us that we needed to order them at the counter. Once we'd queued up and ordered at the counter they arrived quite promptly, but this miscommunication had left us waiting for quite a while and my sandwich had become cold in this time. Keep this in mind when ordering drinks! All in all, good quality food with decent portion sizes and fair pricing. Would happily go again if passing through Leicester.
