This plate the size of my head stacked with food (toast, two fried eggs, baked beans, bacon, hash browns, and mushrooms) was 5 euros; I spent another 2.

Mexilhao is Portuguese for Mussles and you won't find better mussels ANYWHERE!! Different preparations available but no matter how you go, you'll love them!! They also have a Seared Tuna that is fresh, beautiful, delicious and HUGE! Definitely shareable but you won't be disappointed. We didn't try them, but their garlic prawns are raved about, too, and we will definitely try them when we return! Nice wine selection, limited but ample spirits (gin heavy) and beer available as well as soft options. Great service, too!! A gem in Lagos!

We weren't too hungry as we had had a good lunch. We decided to share a small order of the mussels Thai style for an appetizer and an order of lamb chops for our entrée. Even a small order of mussels is a good size. They were delicious. Our order of lamb chops was very nicely cooked and came with French fries. The lamb chops were perfectly cooked and well-seasoned. We were told that if we wanted more fries they would be given to us. We also had a bottle of the house white wine and it was a very good wine. When we were the only customers the owner had his own meal prepared and had it set on the table at the back of the restaurant. As the evening progressed the restaurant became very busy and he had to leave his meal uneaten as there was just himself and his employee to service all the tables. At no time were we left wanting for anything even although they were both run off their feet. I noticed an exchange between the owner and the table behind me that left quite an impression on me and to me it indicated an owner who takes a great deal of pride in his business and wants the very best for his customers. As he presented the dishes to the table he pulled one of the dishes back (I think it was chicken) and said that it looked like it was overcooked and was not acceptable. The customer had not said anything but the owner took it upon himself to pull the dish. He told the customer to order something else off the menu, made some suggestions and said that he would even give him steak (a more expensive entrée) for the same price. What a great family restaurant. It has an owner that cares so much about the quality of his food and the experience that his customers will have. He makes a sincere effort to engage with his customers and he really cares. The prices are more than fair for the quality of the food and the overall experience. We would definitely recommend and we will return on future visits to Lagos.

It had such an amazing vibe with it's rustic interior, soft candlelight and this amazing soundtrack of 40s and 50s jazz. I would pay handsomely to buy that soundtrack. Listening to Louis Armstrong, Billy Holiday, etc. while eating, always delicious, food was an experience to look forward to. Sadly the business was sold a few years back and as often happens the owners decided to make changes to an iconic establishment with a loyal clientele. The beautiful music has been replaced with loud disco and rock music and the once great food is not as good as it once was. To their credit they have kept the same menu. A bad meal or two can be forgiven as there can be problems with kitchen staff but the way they destroyed the ambiance, which was the cornerstone of the establishment, can not. I could hardly finish my meal with that music blasting. Back in the day it was difficult to get a reservation but now you can just walk in and get a table. It's easy to see why. Another great business ruined by new owners making "improvements ". Unhappily, I will not be returning.

We took our waiter's recommendation to add the bread to soak up the sauce from garlic shrimp... outstanding. We like the sauce in the octopus carpaccio but I think it can be improved by using larger octopus cubes instead of thin slices (of course it would no longer be "carpaccio"). Per my personal opinion, the octopus didn't add texture nor flavor to the dish. Our waiter Rubio is super friendly. He gave us recommendation for the location to see "the best sunset in the world". Even though it was a cloudy evening, it was still quite spectacular sunset view.

The chef of this establishment has an excellent vision and it is obvious he knows flavor profiles well, because the combinations made were excellent. They had a menu for Easter that included a soup that was with leeks and green apples that was something I would never think of linking together yet worked so well!! It was really surprising and impressive. They also ran out of one of their staples on the menu, which was a mushroom dish and the chef improvised and made instead a grilled celery root "steak" of a piece of celery o didn't even know was edible!! The texture and flavor was soooo good! So I learned something new too! As far as our starter, we had their house suggestion which consisted of a butter infused with orange and honey that was to die for. It also included a chicken salad that was something light but super tasty and a tuna (they call it pate-we call it salad) that my son couldn't stop eating and was begging for more! Our Main dishes were the pork belly, (which I have never had a better one anywhere in my life), my son had the black linguini with seafood (that was packed with amazing seafood) and my husband had the cod fish with mashed potatoes. My mother in law had the grilled celery root steak. Unfortunately I couldn't try, my sons because I'm allergic to shellfish, but everyone else at the table tried it and said it was amazing. I tried just my husband mashed potatoes and they were better than my own mashed potatoes and everyone that's tried my taters say they're the best-so props to the chef again!! We paired our meal with an excellent wine and the staff suggested another wine to us too for our next visit or to purchase elsewhere. We orders Fabios suggestion of the pork belly, cod and black linguini and couldn't have been happier with what was offered. The restaurant was very cosy in design and we don't feel rushed. Unfortunately, we made a reservation last minute and there was only one table available left for that night which was by the front door, which wasn't the best seating because our party of 4-two sat looking out to the restaurant and street and two at their fridge with aged meat and bar, so 2 people didn't have the best view. So I felt bad for my husband and MIL, but my husband was made aware of this when we made the reservation. What was weird was that our reservation was at 7:30-we arrived at 7:15 and left at 9:30 and the two tables that sat 4 people had a reservation sign on them by the big windows looking outside, but no one sat there the entire time we were there. I wish we could have sat there instead. Maybe next time.
