Stayed till 3am. I loved this place. I told people about it. I thought it might become "my bar." So I came back the next night. And was immediately turned away at like 12:45am. The bar should have been open: according to business hours it was open and with having been there till 3am the prior night it easily could have been. Plus other people were still inside drinking. When I politely asked if I could have one drink while others were finishing theirs the bartender brusquely said no and said everyone needed to leave. He was arrogant, rude, and didn't even try to be helpful or to explain what was going on. It was such a bad experience and so different from the great experience of the night before. Other customers were helpful and said they were heading to other bars in the area, so that was nice, but it didn't change how rude the bartender was. So now I'm not sure if I'll come back. I'd like to because I like the bar itself but after the way this bartender treated me and others I don't know if it's worth the chance. Service matters, people. If I were a manager and saw how stuffily he treated his guests I'd fire him immediately. You can do better, Vögelchen. And in case you want to, the awful bartender was the guy working roughly midnight to 1am on the early morning of Wednesday, July 31. By contrast the guy who worked all night and into the morning of Tuesday, July 30, was amazing.

Thankfully, bRICK manages to bridge these two identities for a peaceful weekend brunch that'll make you feel like you're right at home. I stopped by on a recent Saturday morning to find it half empty, more or less. The customer service was a little brusque (not surprising) though not overtly so as its hipster decor might allude to. I had the "Brickfast" -- the most Californian option on the menu (with Berlin prices). It included two fried eggs, grilled cheese (as in, thin blocks), avocado, hummus, homemade tomato cream cheese (!), olives, bread, and a small salad. The tomato cream cheese was definitely a nice touch, though I was a little disappointed that the tomato taste was just a bit too subtle for me to actually discern. And the eggs left me wanting more... more water, actually, because they were way too salty! But points for effort because there was so much food, I guess?
