As far as airport café franchises go, Ritazza is fine. Considering the limited options in Newcastle Airport, it does a good job and both cafes (there is one on both landside and airside) have plenty of comfy sofas to relax on.
Out of the two cafes, I would say the landside one had a better selection when it came to drinks while the airside one excelled in service and offered a decent amount of paninis, toasties and bagels to choose from.
At landside, I had a caramel latte which was basically just a glass of milk with crushed ice and caramel drizzle. Even though it was such a simple drink, it was still refreshing and cooled me down upon arrival in the warm terminal building.
By the time we got to airside, we were shattered and were happy to find another branch of Ritazza welcoming us. They had big sofas which I had a little doze on whenever I found out our flight had been delayed. To drink, I had a honeycomb frappe which had plenty of honeycomb but with a nice kick of the coffee base too. I couldn't really drink a lot of it because it was very strong and a bit bitter. To eat I had a cheese and ham panini which was really good but it had been a bit long in the microwave and was very hot. I had to take a tiny bite of the panini, burning my tongue in the process and then gulping down a swig of coffee a millisecond later.
While I did find Ritazza quite pleasant to dine at while waiting for my flight, I would prefer if the management of Newcastle Airport approached Starbucks about taking over the café space because with Starbucks you know what you are getting but with Ritazza, the menu has a very strange layout and it is easy to get confused with all the different types of coffee. read more
