In fact, we took up a majority of the rooms offered here. The proprietors and employees are so kind and wish to make you feel at home. Breakfast is included in the tea room with your room and never disappoints especially when enjoyed in the Guest House private garden located in the back of the house. The rooms range from small double-sized beds to large "family" rooms all with en-suite washrooms. Clean, comfortable, and its superb location (next door to Salutation Inn pub and in the heart of bustling and beautiful ocean-side Tynemouth with train access to Newcastle approx 5 minute walk) only enhance the guest houses' already appealing price. If you're lucky enough to snag the room at the back of the house with the private patio porch looking over South Shields, then do so! The only problem with this room is that the door outside is your only access to fresh air (not so great on a rainy day). I would 100% recommend No. 61 Guest House to anyone visiting Tynemouth.

Breakfast was hot and plentiful, the beds were comfortable, bathrooms very clean and generally was a pleasant stay. Tynemouth is a very pretty village in itself. The only problem is parking at weekends (very busy in the village). We had a bit of confusion over the price quote on the phone to us and the price we ended up paying, so get confirmation in writing of how much you are paying before you go.

Traditional pub meets some modern elegance with 2 woodburning fireplaces.The lunch deals were fantastic. I've posted some pics of the food we had - it was so YUM especially for the prices. Wine by the bottle is quite reasonable as well. I noticed that they have a pretty large beer garden outside so I can't wait for summertime to try that out. The décor is very up market, in keeping with the slightly top-hat and hunting pink feel to the name, almost as if it were once situated in Harrods and has been lifted up and dropped in this slightly run-down and tatty area of Whitley Bay. I must say I felt a little out of place, having popped out from home in just jeans and t-shirt, maybe next time I'll smarten up a bit first. The food was very good, I had the scallops with black pudding along side a "dieting" smoothie, my wife had a tuna and sweetcorn toasted sandwich with an Amaretto latte; when the food arrived it was almost a shame to eat it as they were works of art. Prices were slightly higher than other lunchtime places in town (normally two lunches with drinks are in the £10-15 range and this was £20). I can only think of two downsides to the visit. First, I found out after my visit that they serve a very highly rated afternoon tea and second, despite being only one of two tables in use at the time our food took almost half an hour to arrive, which felt a little excessive given the dishes ordered; perhaps we caught the kitchen out in some way. Update 29/3/2013: Visited for afternoon tea today, and it is as good as other reviewers say. First course is a plate of sandwiches (with the crusts cut off). Tuna and sweetcorn, ham a wholegrain mustard, chicken & mayo and cream cheese with cucumber. As an additional surprise the chicken appeared to have been freshly grilled as the sandwiches were warm. Second course the lightest scones we had ever eaten (apple and cinnamon) with strawberry jam and clotted cream. To finish, cakes. The red velvet cake was like a giant cupcake, avoiding the usual trap of being dry, and topped with lashings of butter-cream icing. All washed down with tea chosen from a myriad of loose-leaf green and black varieties available. All very nice and jolly civilized.

I went in on a busy Monday lunch time to have around a 5 minute wait in a small que - this place is quaint inside so always seems packed but serve is quick. Last time I was here I opted for the panini but this time I gave one of their jacket potatoes a go. Deciding to go for a topping of tuna and cheese I was asked if I wanted the cheese on before or after (nice touch), if I wanted the side salad (lettuce, tomatoes and cucumbers) and also the addition of a slaw when asked. Made with purple cabbage it was a tasty touch. Paying 3.80 it was a steal when I saw the sheer amount of food I got for my money! I didn't eat for the rest of the day! Why didn't I give it 5* - no option for baked beans?! Definitely a staple for any jacket potato....

It is tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the main shopping centre creating a relaxed atmosphere where you can unwind. You have the choice to sit in the cafe or bistro so whether it be coffee and cake or a more substantial lunch you're well catered for. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Food was delicious and good quality although rather expensive. I really enjoyed the sweet potato fries and although I didn't order it myself a couple next to us ordered the 'Garden Picnic' which had a lovely presentation and I'd be tempted to order this when I'm a little hungrier. Definitely keen to return here soon...maybe after lent when I can indulge in a nice glass of wine too :)

This store is very popular among shoppers and the staff of the mall at lunch times! There is almost always a queue at times when people want to eat (breakfast, lunch, tea-time). The products available are the same as you can get at any Greggs in the county: cakes, fresh bread, pasties, pies. I enjoy the strawberry tarts here but more often than not I avoid busy Greggs and shop at a similar bakery store at the opposite end of Manor Walks. They provide a more homely service that a big store like Greggs is unable to provide.

Previously a convenience store, the building is quite big and roomy inside. There is space to move around so even when busy you feel comfortable with space to move. There is a large glass fronted counter behind which the staff serve. They have a wide selection of savoury and sweet homebaked style products which are always ultra fresh and which smell delightful. I find that the staff here will go out of their way to help. I recently went looking for a specific food item and even though they didn't have it recommended and sold me something that replaced the item nicely. They are friendly and seem to enjoy what they do. There is no parking spaces near the store except on the residential street areas.
