The American breakfast was phenomenal. Prepared to order and very fresh. Not pictured is the potato pancake under the eggs. It's similar to the American hash brown but slightly better? Ps. It comes with fresh squeezed orange juice! You can not beat the price for all that you get here! The Americano was just perfect for the cold morning. My only suggestion is that it comes in a coffee mug instead of a glass cup. You'll just have to wait until it cools down a bit. But I loved that it wasn't too strong or watered down. The service also exceeded all of my expectations. I came a little before they opened and the bartender/waiter (Gary) let me come inside and made me the americano while he continued to get the shop ready for the day. He was fun to chat with and very knowledgeable! He's fluent in four different languages and is just the coolest guy! As the morning went on a few locals dropped in for the usual and they knew Gary very well. All left happier than they came (including me!) Lovely atmosphere with soft music and natural lighting. The worst service. Went to get just coffee and tea, was told that they serve them only outside. No one came to serve us, so we went next door to get coffee to go. We sat down but finally someone came out to tell us that the tables were only for the restaurant. I said fine, I will order coffee. SF and I were walking around Prague and got really hungry during lunch time. We settled to eat here since it was close by the touristy areas, which was probably already a mistake, but we were tired and hot by that time. Sitting inside wasn't any better. This was early August and temperatures were 95 degrees. We ordered a Radler and a Diet coke which was really refreshing.. until it was 40 minutes after the fact that we were still waiting for our food. I ordered their pork and dumpling dish while SF ordered a chicken club sandwich. They were about $16 USD for each dish which was surprisingly expensive for Prague. Thankfully when the food did finally come out, it was pretty tasty! There was plenty of pork meat on my dish with this brown gravy and the dumplings out in four. There was a sweet side of vegetables that complemented the dish very well. I was pretty satisfied with my plate of food. SF's sandwich was also really big! There was chicken in addition to slices of deli meat. It was so filling that we didn't even finish his fries that were pretty similar to McDonald fries. I would give this place a better rating, but considering the 40 minute wait for our food, the pricy dishes, and no AC, that's why. I would walk further away from the touristy areas if you want traditional Czech dishes for a better price and better service. read more

Prague is epic, truly one of the best places in Europe to visit. But it's not my favorite place to eat. It might take time for me to really get an appreciation for Czech cuisine. Cafe 22 has a nice ambiance in the very busy Malá Strana district, just blocks from Charles Bridge. They serve the traditional Ghoulash, which very much like a beef stew in a bread bowl. It was generally fine - not too memorable but adequate. Fortunately, Prague has given us an endless array of reasons to visit, even if food is not high on the list. read more

We came strictly for caffeine and cake, so that's all this review will be based on. It was kind of late in the day when we stopped in - we left the castle complex right around closing time, so it was probably closer to 6 pm by the time we made our way down here, having stopped to look at menus of other restaurants along the way. The day was still mild and sunny, so we decided to sit outside. One of the things I love about Prague restaurants is that they have the blankets on the chairs, in case the weather changes while you're dining, and you need something to keep you warm. I wouldn't use one, but I love that they're there, anyway. But, I digress. The waiter came out to greet us right after we sat down, and handed over some menus. He then told us he'd give us some time with them, and wandered off. I mention this only because it seems to be common for waiters to ask for your drink order the second your behind hits the chair. I'm guessing they all expect you to say, "Pivo, prosím!", but it' nice to be given time to think. We each decided on a hot drink (the hubs went with a powerful, put-hair-on-your-chest espresso, and I went with a hot chocolate) while we waited to ask the waiter about the "cake of the day". When he came back, he told us that there were several, and that we'd have to go inside to look at the display. So, inside we headed. There were indeed several options to choose from, but I eventually settled on a slice of the Honey Cake, while the hubs went with a slice of the carrot cake. We placed our order with the waiter (who had been hovering nearby), and went back to the patio to reclaim our seats. One note - I did have to utilize the loo while we were waiting. It's down a rather steep flight of steps, and once you hit the bottom, you're in the bathroom. There's no door, and there are only three or four stalls (I didn't stop to count). Each stall has a representation of a male or female on it, so you hope that people stick to the drawings when they choose a stall. It's not terrible, just kind of a shock for this American girl. Plus, they weren't exactly clean. I won't even tell you what I encountered upon entering the first female stall I saw... Anyway, back up top, our waiter brought our drinks first, which were then quickly followed by our cake slices. He told me that I had ordered a Czech specialty, and that the cake was made with local honey. I was thrilled - I had ordered it because it looked tasty, not even realizing that it had significance. The cake was delicious, and surprisingly light. The honey flavor was very mild, and it was moist without being dense. I had no problem polishing it off. My husband's carrot cake was good, but definitely not the kind of carrot cake he had expected. There's a definite Czech flair - spices and candied carrots - added to it. He did like it, but said it took a couple bites to get past his expectations. Our waiter was super friendly. He came out to chat with us a bit about where we were from, what we had been up to, and what we thought of the city. We then chatted a bit about the weather (and here I thought it was only Londoners who could talk forever about the weather!) This is a very modern cafe located in Mala Strana. If you need something to warm you up on a cold winter day, try the potato soup. The soup is more broth tasting than a cream. It is so scrumptious you will want more. It is offered in a bread bowl which makes it ten times better!! The ham and cheese baguette is quiet tasty as well. Prices were a bit high but the food portions were huge and the quality very good. I had an bacon, tomato and cheese omelet and my wife had a ham and cheese omelet.
