This place has a chill vibe and good food. I ordered their "birria," which was not like traditional Mexican-style birria, but it was very tasty.For example, it wasn't served in a tortilla, but on an open-faced sandwich, and topped with crispy onions, which added a nice texture. It did come with a dipping sauce, but didn't taste like the traditional consommé.... it was more of a marinated flavor. Since it was served as an open-faced sandwich, I couldn't dip it in the sauce, but drizzled it over the top. If you're not a birria "purist," you can enjoy this sandwich for what it is: it's flavorful pulled meat, served creatively. While I was eating, the cafe filled up completely, so it's obviously a popular hangout. Some of the other menu items looked good, too. Brunch hangs with my bro in Berlin :) It just so happened that my globe trotting brother and his gf were passing through Berlin when we were there. If that's not fate, then I don't know what is. Cafe Butter was highly recommended by my local friends. It's got quite a large space with classic wood interiors and a big door that spills open into their very spacious outdoor seating. Brunching here in the summer is the best with a mimosa in hand and big umbrellas over your head. Sit inside if you want faster service. Their brunch offerings vary from big portions of classic German baskets + bread baskets to just a croissant and coffee. On Sundays, they have a brunch buffet for €10. The coffee is pricey, about €3 for a large cup. I opted for a large chai latte (same price) and loved the foamy top! It took about 25 minutes before our brunch came out. Considering the place was only semi-full and we sat inside where the servers have a direct view of us, this is typical Berlin service. I've learned to slow down and really enjoy my food instead of constantly wanting to be in and out of a place in under an hour like a typical American. The food is worth the wait! My brother had a typical German breakfast of sliced meats and cheeses along with a big bread basket, his gf had a mushroom omelette and I tried the Scandinavian breakfast. The shrimp in my omelette reminded me of frozen shrimp but all the other side dishes like herring paste, anchovy, etc were so delicious! If you're squeamish about anchovy, do not get this breakfast entree. The portions are large and a bit pricey for Berlin overall, but you are in Prenzlau and that's to be expected. Take the U bahn to Eberwalderstrasse/Pappelallee and walk two blocks to get to Cafe Butter. Make sure to allot at least 1.5 hours to enjoy your brunch, it's mandatory mental health restoration time. read more

If you do the brunch buffet it's relatively cheap, I think 10 euros, for a spread - albeit not very big and the area was cramp. The food was pretty good. Think bread, eggs (scrambled and hard-boiled), potatoes, fruits, cheese, deli meats, etc. It was telling that I had a full breakfast a couple hours before and still joined in the brunch buffet like everyone. Even went to the buffet table twice, or was it three times? I couldn't remember since was a bit tired and hungover from Janice's wedding the previous evening, oof. So, the vitamin C orange juice mix drink here was great! Note service was off and on, either attentive or disappeared for a bit, but I've noticed it's like that at most eateries here, so NBD. read more

When you've got a big group of people for an impromptu brunch, I get it.. it can be a bit difficult to find a restaurant that can accommodate under such short notice. Cafe Butter luckily had a nice space for us tucked away in one of the corners of the restaurant. I can definitely see why Cafe Butter is a local favorite. It's spacious yet has a cozy intimate feel, and the outdoor seating is prime for people watching. Prenzlauer Berg is just such a lovely neighborhood! I'm not sure if they always have the buffet brunch or if it's just during the weekend, but it was kind of nice to see what a typical German brunch was like. As expected, there was plenty of bread and croissants, various types of deli meats and cheeses, and of course potatoes. Oddly, there were also chicken wings and onion rings. There wasn't a huge selection of food, but at 10Euros a person, it wasn't too bad. The service was friendly, but a little slow, and they also forgot my latte a few times. Eh.. This place feels like some weird cult hangout of people (Germans, I guess) who don't enjoy food. It's like a weird hotel buffet setup of just your basic mediocre German breakfast stuff -- cold cuts and platters of cold cheese slices. Some granola and so on. I used to go here a lot when I stayed on Pappellallee. I like the atmosphere, the salads are decent, the brunch is pretty good, but the coffee leaves much to be desired. Service friendly. Easy access on the 12 tram and right near by Helmholtz Platz for a post brunch stroll. Get there early for a table outside when the weather is good. read more

I'm a fan of their breakfast buffet. It was all the essentials and is unlimited. Just dont even think for ONE MOMENT that you'll order the buffet and NOT order a coffee or juice or drink, you will be stared down and asked repeatedly. We had Sundays brunch here and it was a very good experience. The room is small with lots of tables. The atmosphere was very good. Very friendly people. It can be very busy but wait a few minutes and there will be a spot available. The food was basic German breakfast...which I like a lot :-) It was fresh and never empty. A very nice place in the district Prenzlauer Berg. We went there on Sunday to enjoy the brunch buffet (until 16:00). Very good coffee, lovely service, and nice atmosphere. During warmer days you can enjoy yourslef outside. The brunch is adequate price for the quality 8.50 EUR. The food is not phenomenal, but still yummy. I went here for a lunch and can only say that this is not the best to go for a visit. The cafe was pretty crowded and the staff was non/existent, and when the staff was around the service was so crazy slow! It must have taken over 30 minutes to place the order and receive the sandwich and soup we ordered. The food and prices where ok, but I was just disappointed by the service. The location is the nice and the interior as well, so I will give butter another chance and drop by just during off hours not at peak time. read more

Managed to squeeze in (literally) for the New Year's Day brunch buffet. There's little to say about the service as this consisted mostly of serving beverages. One thing did kind of bug my wife and I, as we waited for 15 min (as expected) with our toddler. When a table that already had a family with a toddler / highchair was preparing to leave, the waitress immediately offered us a smaller crammed table in the corner with no highchair. Reluctantly, we obliged, and they quickly wiped down the other family's table and the server rushed off to store the highchair up stairs by the restroom. We weren't offered a high chair for the baby, but dumbfounded, my wife went up stairs and reclaimed the chair and brought it back to our table. It wasn't a big deal, but it seemed a tad ironic and a little bit lacking in meeting the obvious needs we had as customers. Otherwise, the meatballs and wings were delicious! The array of meats and cheeses was just right. The myriad of puddings and yogurts was confusing and some labels would have served the situation well. Good food, good price...and climbing stairs to the buffet is a good way to weigh whether your really want to make another trip! read more

Ich war bisher nur zum Brunch hier und das schon mehrfach. Der Service war in Ordnung, insbesondere wenn man bedenkt wie voll der kleine Laden werden kann. Das Buffet reichhaltig und es wird immer schnell nachgefüllt wenn etwas zu neige geht. Qualitativ auch ok, die Rühreier muss man in jedem fall gut nachwürzen und wer vollkornbrötchen sucht, sucht vergebens. Auch auf Nachfrage erhielten wir nur ein "haben wir nicht, wird es nicht geben".
