Well I obviously hadn't visited The Red Pepper in Newport. We had a party of 8 (but there was another party of 20 and a few couples in the restaurant at the same time), so we were not expecting a speedy service, but a speedy service is what we got. The staff were extremely friendly and very helpful, explaining the menu and what each dish consisted of before taking our order and returning prompt haste with our drinks. We ordered about 25 dishes between the 8 of us and the initial food arrived very quickly and then slowly trickled through for the rest of the meal, which was great because it gave you plenty of time to digest what you had eaten and have another drink and chat before sampling the next dish. The food was outstanding, perfectly cooked and very filling. After eating the courses we all felt that we could eat the whole meal again, then cue 10 minutes and everyone was completely stuffed, although not to full to sample a dessert! All the desserts looked exceptional. I had the Baileys ice cream which was to die for (I certainly could have eaten that again!!). When we received the bill we were all a little shocked; plenty of tapas a sweet and lots of alcohol all for £20 a head BARGAIN!!. A must for anyone who lives locally and even for those who may have to travel a little to sample their delights. Definitely worth 5 Stars.

Quite simply some of the best Mediterranean tapas I've tried…read more Byzantium is just off the main street in Kings Heath in a converted house, it's a pretty, cosy little place (make sure you book it gets full) with plenty of dark wood. Now if the idea of getting out to Kings Heath (and people that live there love to be smug about this place being around the corner) for some tapas seems to be a bit much of an effort I understand but the food here is well worth the journey and that's all I'll say on the matter. The staff match the food, friendly, welcoming and leave you happy at the end of the meal. Price wise each dish comes in at around £5-8 so a selection of 5-6 for two is pretty reasonable, especially considering the quality.

I know this place is always packed so there must be a reason for it......the food is SO good. The only time I have had tapas this authentic was my time living in spain...it is was truly fantastic. We decided to skip the starters and go straight into the main event....and it was a good job we did.....all of the plates were massive compared to other tapas places in Brum and only about £5 per plate....amazing value!! We had the patatas bravas, the pork belly, a chicken and garlic dish, a chorizo dish and a couple of cocktails that were all soooo good. the service was also friendly and fast. Shouts to the waitress that puts gin in her pimms you are my kind of girl!
