Results are born where people who genuinely love what they do come I graduated from a sports university, and the funniest thing is that I didn't like martial arts (okay, okay, I did kickboxing for a month and a half because I needed the extra exercise after I stopped doing track-and-field professionally). I came here as an Au Pair (babysitter) and the kids from my host family started going to judo practices at Cahill's Judo Academy. At first I wasn't particularly interested in judo, but a week ago I caught myself wanting to join a class. By now, I've been attending Cahill's Judo Academy for almost six months (thanks to the children of my host family, who love the place), and I can tell that it's worth it to be a part of this community. I love seeing the professionalism of the coaches, their friendliness and attentive approach to everyone (for example, Coach Joe always tries to remember everyone by name, and I'm not just talking about the kids). In addition, I feel the energy of the place and can describe it as "results are born where people come who genuinely love what they do." P.S. Two weeks ago I was even lucky enough to get out on the mat. Coach Ben asked some parents to try an exercise the kids were doing - jumping over the speed ladder. I think I did it with success (at least I could tell by the cheers of the children and Coach Willie's thumbs up that it turned out pretty good). Really liked this place. The first real time I tried judo. It felt legit. The instructor was good (Sensei Chris?) and I appreciated that he paid attention to the newbies, giving more detailed explanations and tips. Everyone was beyond just nice. The students (black belts and lower belts) were abnormally friendly and supportive. It had a great atmosphere. I only went to the Tuesday adult class but it was a very diverse mix of students from older to younger (including two new 57 year old students) and from experienced to newbies. I also liked the venue. Nothing fancy, but It felt like a real old time school, which is my style. read more

I started here at the beginning of the summer, 2010. The plan was to get both my son and I to take classes. Unfortunately, my boy(11yr old) didnt appreciate getting thrown to the mat. I, however, stayed with the program. I take both Jujitsu(Danzan-Ryu) and Kodokan Judo classes. Both have been a lot of fun. Im 42 and body is still holding up. This dojo is great for the kids. Your child's personality will determine their commitment to the art. Its not for all kids (like mine). Cahill provides the environment and atmosphere for kids to learn about their body, mind, spirit, determination, emotions, and commitment. However, its not a punishing center meant to slap the gentleness out of a child either. Each sensei, and most of all Coach Willy, cares about kids. You can see the instructors do it because they love the sport. Adults. The Jujitsu classes (M & W) are great for beginners and above. Ive learned the art of ground work; arm locks, chokes, escapes, etc. They also teach self defense techniques for all levels. Its been a lot of fun. Its also been enjoyable to work with the other students. No alpha-dog attitudes here. Judo: You'll find plenty of brown and black belts at this dojo. I havent come across many low-level belt adults. The judokas here are practitioners of the art. They show up to work and make the best of their time. As a beginner, I've learned a lot by working with them. I highly recommend this place. read more

Sometimes in life you just luck out. Being able to have Cahill's in our life is one of those times. Our son wanted to try martial arts a few years ago. My wife and I know nothing about martial arts so we really didn't even know where to start. Karate, Taekwando, Jiu Jitsu, and Judo; all the same to us as far as we were concerned. At first we took him to a Taekwondo place if I remember correctly. It didn't go well. Lots of tears, it wasn't really obvious they knew how to introduce a brand new student into the mix. I think we then did some sort of super polished karate academy or something. They were nice enough but it felt all a bit "artificial." I later learned these sorts of places are called "McDojos." :) Anyway, I think that's when my wife stumbled across Cahill's on Yelp. We gave it a shot and it's really there's never been any looking back since. When my son first started there were tears but the thing that was different was the coaches would get on the floor with him, talking him back into a place of confidence and pairing him up with another student that would coach him along until he was comfortable. Now, here we are a few years later, my son is hardly at the top in Judo abilities when compared to other kids in his class but it doesn't really matter to us. He loves Judo and he loves the people here. It really does feel like family. He loves his coaches: Coach Rob, Coach Tarna, Coach Ben, and of course Coach Willy Cahill. You can feel the good energy that comes off Coach Willy and it seeps into everyone and everything associated with this place. Give Cahill's a shot if you're looking around. I've walked into the dojo many times before since 2006. Something about this place really caught my attention. Perhaps it was the home-like atmosphere. Perhaps it was the detail that the instructors placed into kids about respect, values, and discipline. Perhaps it was that people weren't weird, in their own little world and off-topic, and just normal people wanting to train judo/jiu-jitsu. Perhaps it was all the trophies that were lined across the front of the lobby. Perhaps it was all the methodical lesson-planned instruction... Everything I wrote about in the above comment and evident in everybody's review of Cahill's is absolutely true. Classy, experienced, knowledgeable, approachable, and willing to help you exceed. No one gets left behind here. From Kung-Fu sets, staffs and spears as a kid, to taking kicks to the inner calf and punches to the throat in muay thai, and to all the above brutal no nonsense mma beatdown at FSA and FTCC. Eventually, when all is said and done, you want to retire somewhere you can last until you're...I dunno, 70 years old?? You'll know what I mean when you meet a guy there named Howard...oh yeah. Cahill's Judo is a world class training facility. I started training in Judo at the Kodokan in Tokyo while I was living in Japan and the instruction at Cahill's is on the same level. There is so much experience among the teachers and they really care about your learning. They have many top ranked Judoka training there so you have an opportunity to train with high level partners. Coach Cahill has coached on several US Olympic teams and that high standard is evident in the other instructors and students. The environment is very friendly, respectful, and supportive. The students all help each other progress and there are no inflated egos or students who "beat up" on less experienced students. My husband has been going here since he was little he is now one of the coaches. It truely is a familiy there. The caliber of atheletes in there is amazing. My three kids all go there. Its a great sport as well as form of self defense for women and men alike. When it comes to Judo, this is as good as it gets. Coach Cahill has not only coached two Olympics and two Paralympics but more than 1000 medal winners at the state, national, and international level. His students Brett Baron and Corrine Shigemoto have coached Olympic two as well. Stop in at any time and you will see competitors from all over the world, coming in to train with Willy and/or share a few techniques. His kid's program is one of the best in the country. I first meet Sensei Cahill in 2006 at his dojo where i trained while on holidays and again in 2008, his honest, passionate approach to Judo make me feel like I had found a common spirit, more so his kindness and willingness to talk to this little Aussie black belt was heart warming.
