I hired Cain Advisory Group for my small business's accounting and payroll needs. I was supposed to receive a report with my books and P+L statements, etc. at the end of each month. 2 months went by and I never received anything (even though I gave their team everything they needed, and in a prompt manner). Each time I inquired, I was told by Brian and his staff that they were still working on my account (even though we were now a month past the anticipated delivery date). After becoming a client, we had 1 meeting and nothing was accomplished because the bookkeeper never finished the work in time so our 'tax planning meeting' was all based on guesstimates and no actual data. Enough was enough and I decided to cancel the service just shy of 2 months as I never received even 1 report from them. I was very professional in my cancellation and politely requested a partial refund of services due to the fact they kept stringing me along with timelines and never really accomplished or delivered anything. Not only did Brian Cain not 'work with me' on a partial refund, he became very defensive and childish on our phone call and hung up on me. (I was not rude at all and was simply looking for a solution to get Some of my money back due to services not being rendered). He is supposedly a lawyer too; I can't imagine someone so unprofessional and immature representing me. I gave Brian one more chance via e-mail to try to salvage his foul-up, but he did not apologize and he did not show any give on me receiving a partial refund even though I was clearly not happy and his team did not deliver the services I paid for. To top it off, his office is filthy and there were crumbs and all sorts of particles on the chair; disgusting! Also he and his team asked me the same questions at my first client meeting as they did in the introduction meeting; it's like no one was listening or they forgot to log their notes. The only person who actually did what they were supposed to during the 2 months of 'service' was Pamela the payroll coordinator. She was lovely to deal with (we ran 1 payroll) and was very helpful; and the only reason I didn't give 1 star. Other than that, the whole business feels like a fly by night operation. I unfortunately went on a recommendation of a friend and should have trusted my instinct in the first meeting where I felt Brian seemed dubious. One of Brian's closing remarks on the phone (before hanging up on me) was that he never 'promised' me anything. I told him that he and his team 'promised' me certain reports by a certain delivery date (which was never met - and STILL not received after cancellation). To me a promise is no different than a business making a commitment to deliver a product or service by a certain time frame; call it what you want - a promise, commitment, pledge; they all mean the same thing. Based on his logic, his word holds no merit unless he 'promises' something, lol. So I guess if you do utilize this guy for your business, make sure you get him to pen his signature to a 'promise' or else he may find a way to wiggle out of following through and making good on what he tells you he will do. I wish I did more diligent research before hiring Cain Advisory Group. It is clear they are not good at paying attention to the details nor following through on commitments; 2 traits that are expected in hiring any professional organization. I am now amidst a dispute with my credit card company trying to salvage some of the money I threw away with Cain Advisory Group. Pro: On time, email and phone confirmations, good calender schedules, friendly atmosphere, multiple lawyers in the office to handle multiple tasks. Setup corporation, business, and tax all at once. Con: Parking - seriously. I was recommended to Brian Cain 2 years ago by my life insurance planner since I hinted that my previous tax preparer didn't care of my existence, he was just there to file. Brian was able to save me close to 5 grand on my first year, now a switch over to S Corp for more protection and tax benefits. All while taking over my internal billing, payroll, and HR, I have to say thank you for relieving my personal stress level and let me focus on my company. We've been with Brian for our personal and small business taxes for over a decade, since before The Cain Law Group. We actually switched out when he was reorganizing his business and tried some other tax accountants, but Brian was the best and we've stuck with him the last 6 years as a result. He is knowledgeable, responsive, reasonable, friendly, wonderful. We have no qualms about referring others, EXCEPT for one little thing which is the receptionist Norma who has historically been less than ideal. She has not always been on top of emails or phone calls, does not have the best office manner (e.g. makes the person in the office wait while she's on the phone), forgets to send important information such as the time and date of my preassigned tax appointment, but does send random inapplicable emails that say "Contact us now to learn how this can help your business!" without really knowing how to respond when I contact the office. I usually just try to email Brian directly for most things, but I should mention Norma has been improving the past 2 years. Brian himself has been so helpful, even when I have random tax questions throughout the year, about healthcare or college expenditures, Roth IRAs, etc. He's very good about shooting an email back to me with sound advice. Rates are very reasonable, and he even throws in a referral credit if applicable. read more

We have a small business and began services with Cain Advisory Grp. In Feb. 2017, paid for our small business and personal taxes prep. Our taxes were not completed until the last minute, April 15, 4:55 pm. We got an e-mail with instructions. We called our CPA, he put us off, because he was off to his son's baseball game. After that, we made monthly payments, there was no follow up, we were shifted from CPA to CPA with little communication. We never got the personalized care we were promised. We requested a refund for services not rendered, and even though they admit fault, we have not received a refund. Beware! read more

I own a hair salon and work behind the chair full time. This is what I love spending my time on. Paperwork is not. First, let me say that for some reason, Cain has another listing, at Yelp, over at http://www.yelp.com/biz/cain-and-associates-san-diego. It has the same phone # ((858) 277-2122) that this listing used to have, so, I presume it is the same Cain. As for reviewing Brian A. Cain, I feel I could write a small book - and it all adds up to "bad job". This was years ago, and I still feel like I should actually be suing him to get my money back, or else at least filing a thorough report with the Bar and/or State Attorney General (these are the entities involved in the monitoring, regulation and censuring of attorneys), and I still am considering doing the latter. I guess the least I can do is this little Yelp review - and hey, if helps steer at least one person away from him, at least I've benefited society in one little way there. The short of it is that I hired and paid Mr. Cain to set up some business structures for me and he did little of what he was supposed to, which ultimately led to many many hours of headache and hardship for me. It would've been better if I had simply burned the money and had nothing to do with him, as recovering from his mess was a terrible workload. When I first found him, I consulted with one of his references, a financial institution where he used to work or intern. His former boss there looked me in the eye, didn't endorse or condemn Mr. Cain, but simply and solemnly told me to make sure I give him hard and certain deadlines, or else I'm risking the work not getting done. My mistake was that I gave Mr. Cain far too much benefit of the doubt, I never cracked the whip (I'm not that type of employer), and he exceeded deadlines and ultimately didn't complete the work he was supposed to. In addition to all this, when I would check in on work that was overdue, his attitude was sometimes snide and little-kid snotty. Ooph - turns my stomach to rehash these memories of working with this guy. Hopefully he's turned over a new leaf since then. I suppose if you consult with SEVERAL of his LONGER-TERM clients (if he has any who have stuck with him), and they say he's all good, then go with that - as my experience with him was more than 3 years ago, when he was just starting out. Otherwise, a word to the wise is sufficient...... UPDATE #1 TO MY REVIEW (11/24/2014): "Brian C. of Cain Advisory Group" posted a Reply to this Review of mine that said, "This person was not a client. We have checked through our books and there is no record of a Ted Coakley. No transactions were ever made with this person; it is not a real review." Brian Cain, refused to return our calls, or cancel bills that were charged to us for services that were not completed by his employees. The worst part was being overcharged for jobs that were not done, and cost us three times as much as it should have, and then having to scramble to find a new attorney to redo everything Cain law group botched. I was referred to Brian through my daughter and son-in-law. I have legal as well as accounting issues and Brian and his associate, Kelly Carter will guide me through my retirement planning. Every time I come in, I have a load of questions to ask him about my small business and he always gives me great advice AND explanations. I love it. Terrible company. Worst business I've worked with in 30 years. Non-responsive and constant errors. Even missed payroll! We're paying for monthly financials never received. Brian Cain did not show up for our appointment. His office didn't even have the courtesy to call us and let us know. We each took time off from work and made arrangements for our child so that we could be at this appointment. The receptionist claimed they had no way to contact us although they had our phone # and email. They just didn't care. Receptionist was cold, unsympathetic and unapologetic. She did not even have the decency to look up from her computer for two seconds to talk to me. Absolutely worthless! There are far too many options for attorneys in San Diego to waste your time on this place. read more
