This was an excellent food tour, my first. The bus is decorated to make guests feel like, this is going to be fun/enjoyable. Whitney was our guide and she was knowledgeable about the area and its people. She also told us a few funny jokes. Five locations were visited. 1. Ton's Drive In-Broussard. We sampled chicken and sausage gumbo with a small scoop of potato salad. Delicious. 2. Prejean's in Broussard. We sampled dirty grits and scallops. The sauce was a little on the salty side, but the dish was quite flavorful. 3. NuNu's in Youngsville. We sampled, link boudin, boudin balls, chicken patties, chicken crackling, and smoked sausage. Everything was delicious. We were gifted a 3 oz container of NuNu's Cajun seasoning. 4. Fezzo's Seafood, Steakhouse & Oyster Bar in Broussard. We sampled fried alligator with sauce and a char grilled oyster. Delicious. 5. Poupart Bakery, Inc in Lafayette. We sampled King Cake with pecan and cream cheese filling with a cup of Community Coffee. Yum. The perfect end to a tour of delicious foods enjoyed by locals everyday. This is an educational food tour that locals would absolutely benefit from. Whitney covered some history of Louisiana I'd certainly forgotten. This tour filled the 3 hours with delicious food, some humor lots of education and I highly recommend it for visitors and residents of Louisiana. We had an absolutely amazing tour with Marie; the time flew by! The food was to die for - we had the best donut of my entire life and until now, I didn't think King Cake could be yummy! This is the first food tour that I have been on where you loaded onto a bus, but Marie knows all the local spots and knows that she has to get people to the very best places in town to share her passion and commitment to the very best Cajun food in the community. My wife and I were visiting from California and were very excited about a food tour that highlighted authentic Cajun food and its history. As excited as we were, we were not disappointed and the tour lived up to our expectations. We were the only people not from Louisiana on the tour bus, and that in itself was a fun experience. We were able to talk to locals about their experience with each type of food and learn about the history from our guide Jay. The variety of foods was excellent as well as the variety of venues. Everything from a bare bones (but excellent) shrimp boil to a supermarket to a fancier family restaurant. My wife and I really wanted to go on this food tour, but we were only in town for two days. We got on-line the night before and all four tours for the next two days were completely booked. We wanted to go so much that we found the time to come back a week later. This time before making the trip, we insured there was space by booking on-line. In the booking process, it does say that they may not run the tour if they have less than 6 people, but with all four tours fully booked the week before, I did not think this could happen to us. Well, we ended up having our tour canceled due to a lack of 6 people and the other tour we could have made was also canceled. Marie had already made the food selections she wanted us to try and gives a history lesson about each dish. The dishes ranged from chicken & sausage gumbo to a kolache stuffed with boudin. We have been on several food tours in the past but none can compare with Cajun Food Tours. We had hubby's Mom with us today for her very first food tour and she could not say enough good things about the tour! Marie started this tour with a dream and her dream has come true! I am glad we had her as our tour guide today. She was entertaining in her descriptions about the restaurants and about the local history of Lafayette and the surrounding parishes. She made it fun to listen to her stories. As a former Louisiana History teacher, there were many informative descriptions of different locations of the places we visited and the countryside we traveled through. She had hand picked all of the restaurants on our tour today and had personally visited them. The tastings were of all of the best food that I have ever had. From the beginning when we started with the Kolache stuffed with boudin, with a side of a mouth watering donut, to the Monterey Jack Cheese Charbroiled Oyster to the grand finale of Chicken and Sausage Gumbo. These are just a few of the sampling we had on our tour. The only way I am used to eating oysters is Fried Oysters but the Charbroiled Oyster has opened up my eyes to a whole new way to prepare them. Marie, you are awesome!!! As owners of a culinary travel company, you would expect us to be picky, but we all have something in common... We understand that the best way to get to know a place is through the food. So whenever there is a food tour offered anywhere, it should be the very first thing you do. And so we did in Lafayette! We were picked up in the van, which is spacious and comfortable, and Marie introduced herself, as well as her history before we got on our way. She is truly proud to be Cajun, and for good reason! We did 5? 6? stops? OK, I am just too full to remember. Between stops, Marie would fill us in on history of the area, the history of the food, and so much more. Above all, Marie was so full of energy, and OH SO NICE & SWEET! In my case, I don't eat seafood -- yeah, slap me, right? But she had something ready for me at every stop that was so good that I always felt that I had won. But besides that, in our group of 12 people, there were two people that needed special assistance. Once elderly gentleman with a cane, and one lady in a wheelchair. Marie was so gracious helpful with them. It was wonderful to see. Oh, the food... Not gonna spoil it. Let's just say it was all fantastic, and each place she took us to was fully prepared for us, extremely friendly, and the food knocked it out of the park. My non seafood offerings were amazing, but I have to say that those eating the seafood (including my lovely wife) were all blown away. The tour ended with applause for Marie. My wife was born and raised in the area and I moved here 11 years ago. We had some friends coming to town and decided this would be a fun way to spend an afternoon. We were certainly right. Marie is very educated on the Acadian cultures and history, so the drive was always interesting hearing stories and background information on the culture. The stops were all excellent places to represent the "cajun" food in the area. We enjoyed every stop and on top, found a few new places to eat and shop. (And we thought we knew it all). Overall, it was a fun, relaxing experience and I will bring others on this tour when I have visitors. My only tip for the tour would be to maybe point out some other key points of interest as we are driving around such as "UL", the airport, Acadian mall. etc. It would also be nice if there was time or a way to drive through downtown or River Ranch just to add some sites to the overall tour. We will be back and I'm already looking forward to Marie showing us some new spots. I had a few hours before my flight home from a business trip to Lafayette so took the time to do the Cajun Food Tour with Marie. I had a great time and the food was delicious. The bus is decked out and very clean to have a great atmosphere to get you ready for some tasty Cajun food. I was on the tour solo and meet some super people to enjoy the tour which made it even better. Marie has great stories and provides both history and background about the area's culture. I learned so much and loved all of the food. I highly suggest you take the tour when you are in the area and come hungry because you will have so much food on the tour. Every stop was outstanding and very different from the others; Johnson's Boucaniere for sausage, Riverside Inn for crab gumbo, Earl's Cajun Market for boudin and cracklins, The Crawfish Spot for boiled crawfish and Blue Dog Cafe for bread pudding.
