As I was driving, my wife looked up the light description in the Owner's Manual which said it had to do with the emissions. Upon reaching our destination, I drove to Chabill's around 10:40 am. The sign on the door said they close at 12pm on Saturdays. I asked the gentleman who appeared the be the manager, if they had time to look at our van. He asked one of the technician's if he could evaluate what was going on with the vehicle. I went inside the lobby area to have a seat. After approximately 10-15 minutes maybe (wasn't a long wait at all), the manager called me to the desk. I was informed that they had reset the warning indicator, and he read me what my next steps should be. We had to take it to the dealer and have them upgrade the software on the onboard engine computer. He did tell me should the light return, that the car was still drivable and no "immediate" action would be needed. He then said "your total is $45.65." Wait a minute.....there was no communication before looking at the vehicle that there would be a charge. We reside in Houston, TX where I have taken vehicles in to ALL kinds of vehicle repair shops, and rarely am I charged for any type of diagnostics. I'm not saying it did not, does not, or would not happen. Based on my experience when someone looks at my vehicle, they'll tell me what is wrong and what next steps should be taken. I would say on a very rare occasion (so rare that I do not remember when the last time it happened) would I be charged for someone to tell me what was wrong or what was needed. Perhaps a brake repair place would charge for such diagnostics, but I am not promising that would happen. I will say that the manager was very nice and personable. As stated earlier, they reset the light, I paid the charge, and was on my way. Well, on our drive back to Houston on Sunday (8/16/15), the engine light returned. One part of me thought that he did tell me it may not happen. But the other part of me thought to myself, what did I pay $45 for in the first place!!

This "UPDATE" is actually a review of the Service Department…read more Flashback to 23 NOV 2023. I had just finished eating my fill of Thanksgiving dinner at my in-laws and was preparing to make the 40-mile trip home in the rain. As we were leaving, my son, who was sitting in the back seat, advised me that he saw water on the passenger side back seat; specifically dripping down the back and on top of the seat where the headrest fits into the seat. A quick check of the seat revealed that the water was coming in through the corner of the rear glass. Further inspection revealed that it was leaking on both sides. I drove home in the rain with water steadily dripping inside, until I got home and placed a tarp over the truck to prevent any further water intrusion. A quick internet search revealed that there was a known issue with the trucks equipped with the electronic sliding rear glass. The next day, I called 4 Chevrolet dealers in the New Orleans metro area and explained the problem. All of them said that since I was out of the 3-year, 36-K mile factory warranty, there was nothing they could do for me other than replace the rear sliding glass at a cost of approximately $1,300.00. I explained to them that I also had the extended warranty, but they all advised that it did not cover glass! My next call was to Service Chevrolet Cadillac in Lafayette, LA, as this is where I bought the truck. Although it was a 3-hour drive to get there, this was my last hope. I spoke with Service Manager Jerome Babineaux, who was well aware of the Silverado rear sliding glass leak issue. He knew I had the extended warranty and called them on my behalf, only to also be told that glass leaks are not covered under the extended warranty. Before, I could make my disappointment known, he told me to give him some time and that he would call Chevrolet (corporate) on my behalf. A short while later that same day, Mr. Babineaux called me back and stated that he had spoken to Chevrolet and that they agreed to pay $1,000.00 and all I would be responsible for was $300.00. Mr. Babineaux stated that Service Chevrolet Cadillac had a great relationship with American Glass on Apollo Street and that they would do the job on Chevy's behalf. Although normally a 2-day job, Mr. Babineaux worked out a deal with American Glass that if I could get there at 7 AM, they would put an extra technician on the job and get t back to me the same day. Needless to say, I left at 4 AM on 30 NOV 2024 and arrived at Service Chevrolet at 7 AM. Service advisor John Prejean was already expecting me and treated me very courteously. Soon after arriving, my truck was on its way to American Glass. Both John & Jerome kept me updated throughout the day, and around 3:00-3:30 PM, my truck was returned to me with a brand new rear sliding glass. I can honestly say that the Service Department truly went out of its way to get me a great deal, which made the best of a bad situation. So grateful for Jerome Babineaux and John Prejean. Can't recommend them enough, as they provided me with the highest level of customer service.

I was told that my car would be ready two days ago, but each time I call to find out what is going on, I get an attitude and told "We will call you when it is ready". Then I never get a call so I have to call, only to repeat the cycle all over again. Next time I have vehicle issues, I am just going out of town or to a dealership. I see why this company is declining and holding on by a thread.
