The quality of food and staff here are great. I often roll in here on my way to visit friends who live in cradley after I've caught the train to town. The inside is large and has a mix of comfy sofas and traditional cafe tables and chairs. The whole place is well lit and furnished with cream and warm colours that instantly let's you forget you actually in the middle if a dead town. The jacket potatoes are crispy and the chili filling was some of the best chili I've ever had. I've been there a few times for breakfast and it's always been great with generous helpings of everything on the menu. The prices are the best part, a whole breakfast you could pay up to £7.00 in a city for is around £4.00. The charge a little more of you choose to eat n but it's still seriously under what you'd expect to pay to begin with. All in all a great cafe and cradley needs more businesses like this.

Had a nice chat with one of the women behind the counter whilst my sandwich was being made. From what she was saying it sounds like this place deals more with big orders than passing trade. This makes sense as the shop is in a bit of an out-of-the-way location. Nevertheless, my sandwich was very cheap and very filling (helped by the thickness of the crusty bread) it also seemed to have been made using fresh ingredients, not days old salad or tomato. On the downside, the way the girl wrapped the jam tart in clingfilm meant that half the jam stuck to the clingfilm when I unwrapped it. The jam tart also appeared to have been home-made although the visible boxes of chocolate eclairs stacked behind the counter suggested this may not have been the case.

Whatever the heck it was, it was really, really good. Lovely and doughy on the inside, with a thin sugar-sprinkled crust. So good was it, I had to go back almost immediately for a chocolate cookie - which was also good, though not quite the same standard as the square-shaped, scone-like... thing. I spent all of £1 for the two of them, which pleased me greatly. So, I've only given this 3 stars as, although the goods were delicious, quite frankly, there wasn't enough of them! Found on St. Stephens road opposite the Dogpool Hotel, Raven's provides the people of Selly Oak with everything from freshly made bread and buns to all the sweet treats you can imagine. My family have been regular customers for many years and my grandmother would always insist on a freshly made loaf as opposed to supermarket bought bread. There is something very quaint about this small independent baker and with its yellow shop front it brings a bit of brightness to what can otherwise be a fairly drab road. The owners are good people and you will often see them in the early hours preparing to make bread and take deliveries, they seem very committed and the results are there for all to see in the excellent goods they produce.

I have a major sweet tooth, and whilst I can't eat their delicious cakes I can buy them for other people. So whilst I'm buying Danishes and tarts for the other half, I'm buying myself the freshly made monster meringues. Worth treating yourself to some freshly baked classics and great bread as opposed to a cupcake every now and again. It's always nice to find a good local supplier that means you can bypass the supermarket and grab something freshly and locally made with good quality ingredients. They are superbly located for the commuters from Snow Hill Station, you just need to remember its there on the corner of Great Western Arcade.

Although you pay a little more, the better tastier food, an alternative to the big supermarkets, and you know that your supporting a local grocer's using local sourced ingredients, its a win win all round.
