My wife and I recently visited Bakery on the Water for a quick lunch. This restaurant was tiny and packed and we were lucky to find a table since this is a popular spot for tourists. We tried the Cornish Pastry (Cheese and Onion), Sausage Roll and Mushroom Soup. The pastry was flakey and filled with tender onion and gooey potatoes similar to an au gratin. The Sausage Roll was also flakey and meaty but lacked much flavor. Finally, the Mushroom Soup was very disappointing. The soup tasted very watered down with just a hint of pepper. Overall, the food was ok and sufficient to fill you for lunch. read more

Best clotted cream I've ever had in life! Going to try to replicate it this week with my homemade scones and jam. We stopped in for a spot of tea for two, scones with cream and jam and also ordered a lovely berry and almond cake slice. The scones and cream were divine. Our tea was also very nice on a cool windy afternoon. This is the exactly what you think of when you think of English countryside. They must be one of the best bakeries in all of the Cotswolds. We snagged a little table out front to enjoy the area. Service was great, as busy as they were when we arrived our order made it to us in no time at all. Highly recommend. read more

My wife, daughter and I stopped by this place to grab a quick, light breakfast before walking around the beautiful village of Bourton-on-the-water and it was very good. It was busy, so you could tell that it is a popular spot. It is set on the river that runs through the village so you can enjoy your breakfast while the water slowly flows by you. This area and the cafe are beautiful. The staff were very nice, friendly and helpful. Even though they were very busy, they showed no signs of being annoyed or overwhelmed. They seemed genuinely happy you were there and eager to make sure you were happy with your stay. We ordered the sausage rolls and a Cornish pastry and they were very good. I'm sure there are a lot of amazing restaurants in the place, but you would not go wrong stoping by here to grab a coffee and a bite to eat. read more

This was one of my favorite meals for our whole trip in the Cotswolds. The food was great but the setting stole the show. As the name of the eatery hints, this bakery is located right up against one of Bourton's famous waterways that give it the nickname "the Venice of the Cotswolds". The sound of trickling water and lush green landscaping on the patio make it an idyllic spot to rest your feet and chow down. They also had plenty of us Ella covered seating which is key for England's constantly rainy forecasts. As for the food, I ordered a local apple juice, the root vegetable soup with crusty bread and shared dessert with my partner. Speaking of dessert, they have a beautiful array of options in the front display case. Overall, a tasty and memorable experience. And, if you're looking for a walk, night I suggest the trail between Bourton on the Water and Lower Slaughter? It's quite charming. read more

Visited on a Sunday afternoon and was seated without issue. They have upstairs seating, which provides a beautiful look of the water and passersby. They have homemade scones with clotted cream; simply delicious with English breakfast tea. We also had a panini, which came with a small side salad. OMG! This is my go to place for breakfast pastries! I confess that we are repeat offenders coming here regularly for their tasty almond croissants! They also have a pastry and salad combo if you are looking for a noontime bite to eat. Both their sweet and savoury offerings are delicious and calories be damned! A fantastic location-- (steps from Windrush); amazingly polite staff (from young to old, owner to chefs---service with politeness and a smile)....and the food, hand made by an outstanding team of chefs....this is a wonderful place. We stayed in Bourton over two weeks and I would have eaten here every day...but my diet could not take it! Thr quiches, sausage roll and tarts are great and my wife took a bit of my cornish hen pastry and (after 3 weeks in UK) said "That is the best thing I have eaten since we've been here!" On a Sunday in August, Bourton-on-the-Water - nicknamed the Venice of the Cotswolds - has more in common with its Italian twin: the bridges and the greens along the small stretch of the river Windrush are packed with happy tourists from all around the world and after 5 minutes you are already searching for a little peace and quiet to get away from the crowds. And here only 25 metres away you find this litte heaven of quiet in the small garden behind the Bakery on the Water - a few tables, sunshine, rushing water and just you, the ducks and your cream tea. The Bakery serves 2 delicious scones with clotted cream, jam and a pot of tea for £ 5,2 - and all of it is really delicous. The scones are freshly made and together with the strawberry jam and a dollop of clotted cream it feels like a little Victorian Escape out of the modern world. Service is friendly and helpful and even if there is a small queue, you usually do not have to wait long to get your tea and cake The Bakery has a wide selection of tasty pastries on display and all of them look very appetising. So if you happen to be in this part of the cotswolds this Bakery is a good place to unwind for an hour or two. read more
