I believe the room is priced at twice what would seem fair under the circumstances. Great location and walkable to everything. Hotel is small and elegant. Our Sant Francesc "suite" is not a suite by any standards but instead a mere room and should in no way be marketed as a suite just to add to the already hefty pricing. This suite had an uncomfortable mattress that was too soft and only a thin comforter. This makes me think the mattress hasn't been replaced in years. Further, upon checking in I gave the clerk my credit card and passports but she wanted both my spouse and my signatures because mine alone wasn't good enough to check in which I thought was odd especially given this was a birthday gift to my spouse. The rooftop is tiny so not really a pool place and the pool is not heated or meant for swimming due to its tiny size. Food is not bad but not anything special.The gym is also minuscule and you will get better exercise honestly just walking in town. We ordered a car transport from the hotel directly but the car came a half hour late and would not take our bags because they told us they can't keep a bag in the front seat. All of this makes me feel like this is a 4-star trying to be a 5-star but falls onto a 3-star when it's all said and done.

Beds are so comfortable that we often enjoyed them late into the day, missing the heat and humidity of Palma (97 degrees F is too hot for me)! But 24-hour room service and an endless supply of ice really helped after staying up late in the city dancing and drinking! Be aware that there isn't any beachfront near the hotel property; rocky outcroppings line this side of the bay. However, the beach is just to the east of the hotel. There is access to the ocean for swimming via two ladders built into the cliff. I highly recommend taking a dip; the temperature is perfect (at least in August). I spent a little over 3 days there and, overall, enjoyed my experience. It is far different than the resort I had just come from, the spectacular (if pricey) La Residencia in Deia. However, I suspect my personal experience at Jardin del Sol may also be somewhat different from many. I opted for the all-inclusive add-on to my room rate, which entitles me to breakfast and lunch buffets, as well as free drinks at the hotel's two bars. Premium wine, spirits and cocktails can be had for a supplemental charge (basically the regular list price minus one's all-inclusive credit). Additionally, I was upgraded to Star Prestige, which included a bump to Junior Suite Prestige and access to an exclusive pool area, bar and free WiFi. The good: --Outstanding location, offering truly stunning views of the bay. From bed, you can gaze out onto the water. This is a view that would never get old. --The pool facilities are excellent. Everything is clean and well maintained. The Star Prestige pool, itself, is nothing special. It's designed more for cooling off and lounges than it is for actual swimming. However, the environment there is far nicer than the standard pool area, with upgraded sun beds and lounge chairs. --The value proposition is very good. For 180 Euros per day, I get a comfortable room with a gorgeous view, 2 meals and all the drinks one could want. The quality of the food is generally quite high, although with any buffet settings things can be a little hit or miss. The not-so-good: --Quite a lot of hustle and bustle there. This is a busy resort with tons of vacationers from the cooler parts of Europe. It is definitely more crowded feeling than I'd prefer. --The room quality could use some attention. Iberostar has remodeled the entire Star Prestige section, but the rooms themselves are merely "refurbished". While nice enough, the furniture is quite outdated, mattress and linens not terribly comfortable and signs of mold in the Jacuzzi bath and shower. --Service can be a little impersonal. One gets the feeling that many of the staff are performing their duties in a perfunctory manner. On the whole, though, I had a very nice stay at the Jardin del Sol and would recommend it for anyone staying on this part of the island.

Of course, from the minute we arrived at the St. Regis, those concerns were put to rest. It was paradise in paradise, sunny days in the mid eighties. We were promptly greeted by one of the hosts while a porter tended to our luggage. Seated on the beautiful wrap around terrace, we answered a few check in questions with our host and were treated to a welcome cocktail and snacks. At this early hour, our room was not ready so we just took a short walk to grab some lunch in Porto Portals. They had called us by the time we were finished and let us know everything was all set for us. And let me tell you, we were all set. Upgraded to a top floor suite with a killer beach and pool view in an enormous room that lacked nothing. The porter arrived as we did and explained a few things about the resort and provided some know how to all the switches and thoughtful touches of our suite. Our suite had an excellent designers touch to it, with impressive decor and paintings of some of Palma's famous sites. There was no shortage of storage space in the entry hallway/dressing room. Bathroom was all marble, complete with double sinks, soaking tub, shower and separate toilet/bidet room that was even accessible from the entrance lobby. Full office desk with any kind supply or outlet you may need. There were chairs and a chase to relax in next to the mini bar up front by the windows in the lounge area. The bed itself was very comfy and I loved the ergonomic pillows that we found in the closet, slept like a baby. The balcony patio was another nice place to hang out and take in the view from the table or chase. Service was impeccable and the flawless way that everyone spoke Spanish and English made me ashamed to not be multilingual. We got hooked up with a nice breakfast rate and were very pleased with the buffet. I typically stuck to what was local and stuffed myself on chorizo, jamon, the fantastic oranges of the area and the sinfully good ensaimada. Staff got us set up with chairs and towels by the pool and helped out with the brellie for my fair skinned lady. I was also happy that even the valets were quick with taxis and spoke Spanish to our drivers to avoid any misunderstandings. We had a splendid stay here and an impeccable meal at Es Fum (attached a photo of the menu). The St. Regis didn't miss a beat. I also learned a few things about the St. Regis and Majorca in general: -Started by John Jacob Astor -A commitment to technology which was clear with all of the outlets, lights and switches and full keypads on both sides of the bed (very thoughtful) that controlled everything from the lights to the ceiling fan and drapes -Known for the Butler service which we wised up to use to book tables for our dinner reservations, you'll need them if you want a decent table anywhere -The oranges on Majorca are as good as you'll ever eat -The train to Soller was a bunch of fun -There are a lot of Germans on Majorca and I was constantly high fived in my Deutschland kit by other supporters of the 2014 World Cup Champions -Bros don't stay at the St. Regis, thankfully

My only complaint was to use the indoor spa facilities (which the hotel classed as the hot tub, indoor pool, sauna and steam room) were an additional €10 per person per day. It's not like it's going to break the bank, but I've never paid to use a pool and hot tub before. The spa was open from 9am until 9pm which allowed you to stroll in as you please and enjoy your relaxing sun holiday. I booked this hotel through booking.com and my deal included a spa circuit at "Spai" in the price. That was well worth it. I looooved it. In the circuit there was: a Finnish sauna, Contrast shower (cold, sequential and ascending shower), heated relax lounger, Scottish shower, Turkish bath, cube shower, Bithermic shower with essential oils: ( warm and cold water, essences of lavender and orange), recreational hydromassage (pool with different options of columns of water for massage effect), Essence shower (warm water and essences of lavender and orange) among some other options. They provide you with posted signs which show you the order to use the different options in to do a traditional circuit. It was fantastic. Bed was comfortable. Room was quiet. The hotel is not in a particularly busy area of the city, yet it was easy enough for us to walk to all the interesting places to see. It's fairly near to Castell de Bellver. It's a gorgeous area. The breakfast buffet in the morning is well stocked and watched intently to make sure it stays that way. Choices abound, most are standard fare in a European breakfast buffet (cold cuts, croissants and pastries, cut fruit, bacon, ham, eggs with juices and coffee).
